Day 1: Arrive Cape Town

Your Classic Journey commences in Cape Town, where you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your five-star hotel. This evening, meet your APT Tour Director and fellow guests at a Welcome Reception.

Day 2: Cape Town

Today’s sightseeing in Cape Town begins with a ride on the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain. Enjoy time to admire the beautiful city and ocean stretching out beneath you. Your next stop is the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa.

Constantia Winelands: Pay a visit to the Cape Winelands region, the largest wine region in South Africa. During your tour, get acquainted with the region’s famous wines and beautiful landscapes.

Robben Island: Visit the island and tour the site where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Learn about the island’s history and see where thousands of freedom fighters were incarcerated.

Township tour: Escorted by a local guide, learn about life for those who live in the ‘shanty’ towns of Cape Town

Meloncino: Meloncino boasts Italian Food in traditional Roman style with a slight modern flair. With guaranteed hearty flavours, this is a satisfying dining experience.

Day 3: Cape Town, Cape Peninsula

Today’s picturesque journey takes you along Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park. Continue on to historic Simon’s Town and see Africa’s only colony of penguins up close at Boulders Beach before returning to Cape Town.

Day 4: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn

Travel the world-famous Garden Route to Oudtshoorn. This afternoon, visit a wine estate in Robertson and sample vintages perfectly matched to music during the tastings.

Day 5: Oudtshoorn – Knysna

Meerkat Safari: Observe a busy mob of meerkats in their natural habitat on a morning safari (weather dependent). During the safari, you’ll learn about the habits of these curious creatures.

Elephant Encounter: Come face-to-face with these gentle creatures during a unique elephant experience, including the chance to feed and interact with them as you learn more about their behaviour.

This afternoon visit the Cango Caves.

Day 6: Knysna

Take a ferry to Featherbed Nature Reserve and travel by 4WD to Western Head for panoramic views of Knysna Lagoon. You may like to take an optional bushwalk before a buffet lunch amid the lush forest. The rest of the afternoon is yours at leisure.

Day 7: Knysna – Port Elizabeth

Today visit Monkeyland Primate Reserve, where you’ll see primate species roam free. Alternatively, enter the world’s largest aviary dome at the Birds of Eden sanctuary. Continue to Port Elizabeth.

Kipling’s Brasserie: Located at the Boardwalk Hotel, Kipling’s menu offers a varied range of cuisin, from Indian curries to t-bone steak, with a generous number of vegetarian dishes.

Ginger Restaurant: Savour fine dining in a prime beachfront location at Ginger Restaurant. Taste fresh cuisine from an innovative menu that is heavily influenced by the Eastern Cape.

Day 8: Port Elizabeth – Kruger National Park

Fly via Johannesburg to Kruger National Park. Arrive at your lodge in time for sundowner drinks at dusk before enjoying dinner with your fellow guests this evening.

Day 9: Kruger National Park

Travel through the lodge’s private reserve on morning and afternoon game drives today. Accompanied by experienced trackers, you’re assured of the best chance of spotting magnificent creatures. Your day ends with an intimate boma dinner under the stars. Savour delicious traditional cuisine as you enjoy the night sky.

Day 10: Kruger National Park – Johannesburg 

Bid farewell to Kruger National Park as you fly to Johannesburg. Enjoy an overnight stay here before the next part of your journey.

Day 11: Johannesburg – Kasane – Chobe River – Embark Riverboat

Fly to Kasane in Botswana this morning, then travel by coach and boat into Namibia. Once here, transfer to the magnificent Zambezi Queen on the Chobe River. Take the time to relax with sundowners and chat to your fellow guests before enjoying your delicious evening meal. Over the next two days, you’ll enjoy excellent game viewing on safari boat rides.

Cruise: Zambezi Queen, 2 nights

Day 12: Chobe River

Wake to a beautiful sunrise overlooking the Chobe. Enjoy breakfast, then head out as you prepare for another day of discovering the local wildlife from the incredible position of your safari boat. Later, you have the opportunity to explore the region in one of two ways. Perhaps take a journey to a local Namibian village. Alternatively, you might prefer to try your hand at fishing for bream and tigerfish. In the afternoon, enjoy an incredible water safari to observe some of the many elephants that call Chobe River and its surrounds home. This evening, another fantastic dinner with your fellow guests awaits.

Day 13: Disembark Riverboat – Livingstone – Victoria Falls

Leave the Chobe River and cross the border into Botswana then onto Zambia. Arriving at your hotel beside the Zambezi River, enjoy some time to settle in before a short walk to Victoria Falls.

Day 14: Livingstone

Helicopter Flight: Set off on a helicopter flight for a unique look at stunning Victoria Falls (weather permitting). This is the ultimate way to see the incredible landmark and one you won’t forget.

Tonight, step back in time on the restored Victorian steam train, the Royal Livingstone Express. Enjoy cocktails, wine and dinner, as you stop on Victoria Falls Bridge for magnificent views.

Day 15: Livingstone – Johannesburg

Fly to Johannesburg, where your Classic Journey concludes. Tomorrow, commence your Remote Journey to East Africa.

Day 16: Johannesburg – Arusha

Fly via Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Arusha where you will stay at a hotel on a coffee plantation. This is the perfect jumping off point for your Tanzanian safari. Transfer to your hotel and settle in with Welcome Drinks in the evening.

Day 17: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Depart Arusha by 4WD today and head to Tarangire National Park, whose landscape is teeming with imposing baobabs and vast savannah plains. Along the way, make a stop at a Maasai village. Here, you’ll learn how the women are creating a sustainable living, thanks to improved water conditions and the ability to grow vegetables for food and income. After your time spent at the Masai village, arrive at Tarangire in the afternoon. Settle in and head out on your first game drive here.

Day 18: Tarangire National Park

The plains of Tarangire National Park are home to an abundance of wildlife, but are most famous for the annual elephant migration. Watch for these gentle creatures along with a host of other animals on morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 19: Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro Crater

After visiting a local school, continue to your lodge, which is located close to the Ngorongoro Crater. Here, perhaps you might like to take an included optional game drive through Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy dinner at your lodge this evening.

Day 20: Ngorongoro Crater

Enjoy a full-day game drive along the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, including a picnic lunch. One of Africa’s most sublime wildlife experiences, Ngorongoro Crater is a must-visit during any journey to East Africa. The crater’s high walls serve as a natural enclosure for an abundance of wildlife including The Big Five, along with wildebeest and zebra.

Day 21: Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti National Park

Visit the prehistoric site, Olduvai Gorge, for a private lecture and tour. One of the world’s most important prehistoric sites, evidence of early humans has been made here, and the gorge is known as the ‘cradle of mankind’. Watch for wildlife as you travel to your spectacular lodge with expansive views over the Serengeti, allowing you to feel at one with the untamed plains.

Day 22: Serengeti National Park

Head out on an early morning game drive to observe the animals at their most active. Later, enjoy the infinity pool and views of the waterhole at your lodge. On your afternoon game drive, the chance to spot incredible wildlife is high, thanks to the park’s density of both predators and vulnerable prey.

Day 23: Serengeti National Park – Masai Mara

Today you will board a light aircraft for a picturesque flight to the renowned Masai Mara. Shortly after arriving, head off-road through the savannah on your first game drive. This is one of the most idyllic destinations in the region to spot a fantastic abundance of wildlife.

Day 24: Masai Mara

Awake to the incredible sounds of the Masai Mara wildlife this morning. Perhaps embark on a balloon safari over the Masai Mara – own expense, must be booked on tour. Wonder awaits on an evening game drive as the animals become more active. Raise a glass and celebrate your experience with sundowner drinks.

Day 25: Masai Mara

Choose to further explore or enjoy a day of rest and relaxation within the surrounds of your camp. This evening, enjoy an unforgettable bush dinner under the African night sky.

Day 26: Marai Mara – Nairobi

Fly to Nairobi and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore or unwind. Come together during a Farewell Dinner, including a performance by the Kenyan Boys Choir.

Day 27: Depart Nairobi

After breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
