Amsterdam Explorer

Visit a working Dutch Windmill and see the inner workings of the machinery responsible for helping to reclaim the Netherlands from the sea. Visit the Delft Pottery factory for a look at the creation of this renowned, hand painted, porcelain. A Dutch dining experience at a cheese farm where you will also gain an insight into the making of traditional wooden clogs.

Day 1: Arrive AmsterdamWelcome to the vibrant and friendly city of Amsterdam where you will find more canals than in Venice. This evening enjoy a Welcome Reception and light meal on a relaxing city cruise along picturesque canals and under stone bridges - the perfect introduction to the city.

Day 2: Amsterdam Enjoy a city orientation of Amsterdam with its 17th century architecture this morning. See the Mint Tower and the floating flower market and drive across Dam Square. Stop at the Rijksmuseum where you will see some of the Dutch masterpieces including Rembrandt's 'Night Watch' during a Small Group Sightseeing tour. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city. This evening consider a typical Dutch meal in a local restaurant.
Day 3: Amsterdam – Haarlem, Volendam & Zaanse SchansThis morning visit the Corrie ten Boom House and Museum in Haarlem with a Local Specialist. Corrie ten Boom was a Christian who along with her family helped many Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II. She was imprisoned for her actions and later wrote a famous book, 'The Hiding Place'. Later enjoy an excursion to a typical Dutch fishing village. Sample some famous Dutch cheeses during a visit to a windmill to discover the inner workings. Find out about the Zuider Zee and land reclamation from the sea. This evening meet some of our local friends on a farm and enjoy a meal of Dutch delicacies.
Day 4: Amsterdam – The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam & KinderdijkThe Hague is the capital of The Netherlands where the parliament is located. Visit the city and find out a little about the International Courts of Justice. This is the judicial branch of the United Nations which also has its headquarters in the city. Enjoy a stop in Delft when you will find out a little about the famous blue pottery when you visit the factory for an included tour with a Local Specialist. Finally visit the world's largest port city of Rotterdam. This impressive city is best seen with an included visit to the top of the Euromast Tower. A picture perfect moment will be had when you stop to admire the view of a series of traditional windmills in Kinderdijk before returning to Amsterdam.
Day 5: Amsterdam – GoudaToday visit a traditional Cheese Market which takes place in the medieval town of Gouda. The first mention of Gouda cheese dates from 1184 making it one of the oldest recorded cheeses still made in the world today. The cheese is named after the Dutch city of Gouda, not because it is produced in or near the city, but because it has historically been traded here. In the Middle Ages all the cheeses would be taken to the market square in Gouda to be sold. Enjoy seeing this ancient cheese tradition taking place before you have free time to explore some of the other attractions. (Please note that during the opening of Keukenhof an excursion to see the tulip fields will be included instead of the visit to Gouda). This evening celebrate your time in Amsterdam with a delicious Farewell Dinner in the trendy city centre.
Day 6: Depart AmsterdamBid farewell to your travel companions and Travel Director this morning as your time in Amsterdam comes to an end. Airport transfers are available. Conditions apply.

Day 2: Amsterdam Amsterdam is a fascinating city which boasts art, architecture, canals, museums, bicycles and charming side streets. Start your day with an orientation drive of the historic city centre. Admire Rembrandt's masterpiece 'The Night Watch' during your Small Group Sightseeing tour of the Rijksmuseum. Visit a historic diamond polishing factory for a Cultural Insight into the traditions of cutting and preparing diamonds for export.
Day 3: Amsterdam - Aalsmeer/Keukenhof - The Hague - Delft - RotterdamAn early start takes you to Aalsmeer to visit the flower auction. Alternatively during the flowering season (March until mid-May), an included visit to the tulip fields of Keukenhof is sure to dazzle, with several million flowering bulbs planted across a 70-acre site. This afternoon, travel through The Hague to the town of Delft and visit the Royal Delft Pottery workshop for a Cultural Insight into the manufacturing of this hand painted porcelain. Continue to Rotterdam, where you'll be treated to two Cultural Insight experiences. First enjoy an included Spido boat cruise along the most important river port in Europe. After this take a trip up the Euromast tower for sweeping views of the city. Stay this evening aboard the SS Rotterdam.

Day 4: Rotterdam - Groesbeek - Arnhem - OosterbeekAfter breakfast continue your journey to Groesbeek and visit the National Liberation museum. Once the site of part of Operation Market Garden in 1944, the museum now commemorates Holland's occupation and liberation during World War II. Next, make your way to Arnhem to see John Frost Bridge, named after the commander of the British forces that held the bridge for four days with a mere 750 soldiers during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II. This afternoon you will also visit the Hoge Veluwe Park and the Kröller-Müller Museum which houses some of Van Gogh's most famous works before arriving at your hotel.

Day 4: Amsterdam - Haarzuilens - Maastricht - Bastogne - Luxembourg This morning stop in the historic fortified city of Maastricht. Enjoy free time to explore the city before continuing to Bastogne. View the American Memorial, erected to commemorate the 76,890 American soldiers wounded or killed during the Battle of the Bulge. Arrive later at your hotel in the Duchy of Luxembourg. Dine tonight at your hotel.

Day 5: Luxemburgh This morning, visit General George S. Patton's grave. Your walking tour of Luxembourg with a Local Specialist shows you the sights including the breathtaking gorge of the Rivers Alzette and Petrusse, the Cathedral and the Grand Ducal Palace. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. Your Travel Director will be able to advise on how to get the most from your free time in the city.
Day 6: Luxembourg - Orval - Dinant - Bruges Visit Orval Abbey, a Cistercian monastery famous for producing Trappiste beer. Continue your journey and stop in the pretty town of Dinant, birthplace of Adolphe Sax - best known for inventing the saxophone. Later, arrive in picturesque Bruges and join your fellow travellers this evening for a special Be My Guest dinner at an 18th century farmstead.

Day 7: Bruges Admire the sights of Bruges including the town square during your walking tour with a Local Specialist.
