This Cheetah Safari combines game viewing in the Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro with big game viewing in the world famous Maasai Mara.

Taking in some of the prime game viewing areas in Kenya, this is the ideal safari if you only have limited time available to you but would still like to experience a true African Safari. Day 1: Arrive Nairobi

You will be met on arrival and transferred to Hilton Garden Inn Jomo Kenyatta airport for your welcome dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

After breakfast check out and depart with picnic lunches. Drive to Amboseli National Park to arrive time for an en-route game drive in the park.

Day 3: Amboseli National Park

Magnificent views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro greet visitors from anywhere in this park. The park takes its name from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”. The largest elephants in Africa live here and on some mornings over 600 have been counted in the swamps. Early morning and afternoon game drives offer the chance to track lion, cheetah, wildebeest and the rare black rhino.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart after breakfast and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Picnic lunch will be provided on the way. Check in to the park in time for your evening game drive.

Day 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Drive via Narok to Masai Mara Game Reserve. Lunch and afternoon game drive in the reserve.

Day 6: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Spend the day in Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The Mara is home to some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 400 bird species. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five. Other game includes hippopotami, cheetah, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, Coke’s hartebeest, giraffe, Roan antelope and wildebeest.

Day 7: Depart Nairobi

Breakfast and drive back to Nairobi arriving at around midday. A transfer is included to your Nairobi hotel or to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Day 1: Arrive Nairobi (Kenya)

Welcome to Kenya. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, relax and enjoy dinner at one of the two restaurants at your hotel (own expense).

Head for Amboseli National Park, arriving at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge in time for lunch. Located against the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro and in the heart of this world-famous national park, the lodge offers you the perfect base from which to embark on your Kenyan safari. After lunch, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive to look for the Big Five as well as hippos and a variety of water fowl which can be found near the park’s wetlands. It is a truly incredible spectacle to see these animals free-ranging across the plains or wallowing in the swamps, all with Mt Kilimanjaro looming majestically in the background. Sundowner drinks at Observation Hill rounds out a perfect first game drive in Amboseli National Park. You’ll then return to the lodge for dinner.

Wake early then enjoy some tea and a snack in preparation for another exciting day. The morning takes you to a traditional village where you’ll interact with the Maasai to learn about their daily life. For this afternoon’s game viewing, your expert game driver/tracker will be on hand to ensure you get the best possible chances to see the animals of Kenya.

Take a short flight to Nairobi, then continue by 4WD to Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon is all about wildlife spotting, with an afternoon game drive. You may also wish to take advantage of the lodge’s beautiful surrounds on a stunning nature walk around the property.

Bound by rocky escarpments and brimming with hordes of animals, a day of game drives at Lake Nakuru National Park offers yet another glimpse into life in Africa’s animal kingdom. Later, return to your lodge, where a delicious dinner awaits your taste buds.

Soak up the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, which stretches from the Middle East all the way to Mozambique. Onwards to the Masai Mara, where vast open spaces provide excellent game viewing. At certain times of the year, you may see enormous herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra during the incredible Great Migration. This afternoon, head out on an exhilarating game drive.

Perhaps experience the Masai Mara from the skies on a magical hot-air balloon ride. Enjoy breakfast while hearing the sounds of the bush as you get ready to head out on another game drive. Return to the lodge for a delicious lunch before a free afternoon gives you the chance to relax and unwind.

Experience the beauty of an African sunrise and discover the morning rituals of the local wildlife accompanied with a light snack ahead of today’s first game drive. Afterwards, a delicious breakfast awaits before the rest of the morning at leisure. Enjoy this afternoon’s game drive to catch a close-up look at the animals that call the expansive grasslands of the Masai Mara home. Delight in a memorable bush dinner this evening and experience the flavours of the region.

Transfer to the airstrip and board your scheduled flight to Nairobi. Be met by a bus on arrival at Nairobi, Kenya’s buzzing capital. You’ll then transfer to Arusha in Tanzania, with a packed picnic lunch to enjoy along the way. You’ll arrive at The Arusha Hotel, believed to be one of the oldest in East Africa, established in 1894 and now offering a touch of nostalgia balance with modern. Arusha lies in the shadow of Mount Meru, an active but dormant volcano and Tanzania’s second largest mountain next to the colossal Mt Kilimanjaro. Unwind and enjoy a free evening in and around your hotel.

Transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight into Serengeti National Park. You’ll be met on the ground by your driver guide for a game drive into the golden plains of the national park. Best known as a host to the epic Great Migration, the Serengeti is also famous for its predators who spend their days pursuing impalas, zebras, buffalo, gazelle and more. Arrive later at Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti. Relax by the campfire before dinner, then retire to your tented room with an ensuite.

Get acquainted with the Serengeti on a full-day game drive with your expert driver/tracker. Relish the classic safari setting back at camp this evening, as you relax after an exciting day around the campfire with your fellow travellers.

Drive to Olduvai Gorge to explore one of the world’s most important archaeological sites. You’ll then descend into World Heritage-listed Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular tour and a picnic lunch.

Head to Mto wa Mbu, a tiny village set at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. In Mto wa Mbu, visit a school and see what daily life is like for the students. You’ll end the tour at a local restaurant where you can try a range of East African dishes. Later, enjoy an afternoon game drive at Lake Manyara, famous for its flamingoes and baboons that reside here.

After lunch at the Home, you’ll continue your 4×4 journey to Aberdare National Park. Day 3: Solio Game Reserve Excursion

Later, indulge in a bush picnic – the sounds of the bush the perfect accompaniment while you keep your eyes peeled for the flash of resident Bee-eaters, Rollers and Hoopoes flitting from tree to tree, before continuing on your safari.

Discover the breathtaking Cape Peninsula during a full-day tour. This scenic journey takes you along Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. The most south-westerly tip of Africa, Cape Point is covered in endemic fynbos and home to bays, beaches and rolling green hills and valleys. Stop for a light lunch then watch the penguins totter along the shoreline at Boulders Beach. Continue to historic Simon’s Town for some time to wander at your leisure. Named after Simon Van Der Stel, an early governor of the Dutch settlement, who arrived in the Cape in 1679, Simon’s Town is South Africa’s third oldest settlement. Van Der Stel chose it as a safe alternative to the stormy Cape coast during winter. Tonight, back in Cape Town, partake in the art of African drumming before enjoying a delicious Welcome Dinner of Cape Malay cuisine.

Today begins with a cableway ride to the top of Table Mountain, followed by a city tour. With a free afternoon, perhaps choose from one of our select experiences. Take a ferry ride to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; enjoy an African Heritage Tour; discover the Constantia Wine Valley; or enjoy the floral displays at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens (see page 60 for further details). We’ve left this evening free so you can check out what’s on the menu along the busy V&A Waterfront, which is lined with restaurants, cafes and shops.

Day 4: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn

Travel through the Karoo region onwards to Oudtshoorn. Arrive at your hotel for a dinner of regional produce, including ostrich.

Hotel: Surval Boutique Olive Estate

Today, discover the subterranean formations of the Cango Caves. Come face-to-face with Africa’s enormous flightless birds as you tour an ostrich farm. Enjoy the chance to feed an ostrich by hand and see examples of the bird world’s largest eggs. Then follow the curves of the Garden Route to Knysna. Straddling the southern coast of South Africa, the 300-kilometre-long Garden Route takes its name from the stunning and ecologically diverse vegetation that typifies the region. Travel through grasslands, wetlands, forests and mountainous regions, passing the numerous lagoons, lakes and rivers that dot the coastline. In Knysna, enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.

Enjoy a visit to Featherbed Nature Reserve, a pristine piece of paradise on the Western Head of Knysna which is only accessible by ferry. Cross the azure lagoon and be met by a park guide who will take you to the very top of Western Head by 4WD. After, you may like to participate in an optional bush walk.

Continue along the Garden Route. Visit Monkeyland Primate Reserve. Gain first-hand insight into the conservation principles adopted at this sanctuary, which is also the world’s first free roaming multi-species primate sanctuary. Later, continue along the Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma National Park. Then journey through the coastal reserve of Tsitsikamma Forest on the way to Port Elizabeth, one of South Africa’s largest cities. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Take an included flight to Nelspruit via Johannesburg. Once you’ve touched down in Nelspruit, travel by coach to a private concession of Kruger National Park. Arrive at Shishangeni Private Lodge where you will stay for the next two nights in your own thatched chalet with a private game-viewing deck. Excitement reaches an all-time high as you head out on your first game drive through the lodge’s private concession. Experience the thrill of looking for the wildlife of Africa in one of the nation’s greatest game parks. Enjoy sundowners amidst the African bush before dinner back at your lodge.

During leisure time, perhaps make use of the lodge’s facilities or relax on your private deck. After lunch, an afternoon game drive offers you the chance to spot one, or perhaps all of Africa’s Big Five along with other animals. Your day ends with a traditional outdoor boma dinner, allowing you to dine within an impressive setting under the stars.

Day 10: Kruger National Park – Johannesburg

After breakfast, transfer back to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. With a free afternoon and evening, perhaps take advantage of our select experience. You may like to spend some time exploring Soweto, a city with a tumultuous past and a rich heritage. Visit the Regina Mundi Church, as well as Mandela House Museum to learn about the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Spend the evening relaxing, or perhaps venture out and explore the nearby shops and peruse the restaurants close by.

Take an included flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe where you’ll enjoy a guided walk before being transferred to your hotel on the Zambian side of the falls. Later this evening, enjoy a delicious dinner.

Enjoy a day to yourself to explore the area around Victoria Falls. Perhaps revisit the falls at your own pace – it’s just a five minute stroll from your resort. Day 25: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

Travel to World Heritage-listed Ngorongoro Crater. Marvel at the lush green scenery as you descend down the high crater walls. Enjoy a picnic lunch and go in search of the unique wildlife that roams this special place. Then take a 4WD out to Oldupai Gorge to explore one of the world’s most important archaeological sites. It’s then onto Serengeti National Park, best known as a host to the epic Great Migration. The park is also famous for its predators who spend their days pursuing impalas, zebras, buffalo, gazelle and more. Arrive at Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti. Stop for a light lunch then watch the penguins totter along the shoreline at Boulders Beach. Continue to historic Simon’s Town for some time to wander at your leisure. Named after Simon Van Der Stel, an early governor of the Dutch settlement, who arrived in the Cape in 1679, Simon’s Town is South Africa’s third oldest settlement. Van Der Stel chose it as a safe alternative to the stormy Cape coast during winter. Today begins with a cableway ride to the top of Table Mountain, followed by a city tour. With a free afternoon, perhaps choose from one of our select experiences. Day 4: Cape Town – Oudtshoorn

Travel through the Karoo region onwards to Oudtshoorn. Arrive at your hotel for a dinner of regional produce, including ostrich.

Today, discover the subterranean formations of the Cango Caves. Come face-to-face with Africa’s enormous flightless birds as you tour an ostrich farm. Straddling the southern coast of South Africa, the 300-kilometre-long Garden Route takes its name from the stunning and ecologically diverse vegetation that typifies the region. Travel through grasslands, wetlands, forests and mountainous regions, passing the numerous lagoons, lakes and rivers that dot the coastline. In Knysna, enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.
