Day 1: Cape Town, South Africa

Welcome to South Africa! Check in to your hotel and prepare for a fascinating journey.

Day 2: Cape Town

This morning, a Walking Tour introduces you to Cape Town’s famous and historic landmarks. Stroll along Government Avenue to see St. George’s Cathedral, Parliament, and much more. Next, you’ll enter The Company’s Garden, a beautiful oasis in the city, en route to Green Market Square, which at different times has been a fruit and vegetable market and even a slave market. Next, visit Table Mountain for a Cablecar Ride to the top (weather permitting) for stunning views of the city and its surroundings. In the afternoon, take a scenic drive south through the fishing village of Hout Bay before ascending Chapman’s Peak Drive, which skirts the rocky coastline and is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Continue on to Cape Point Nature Reserve for stops at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the southwesternmost point on the African continent. Here, take a Funicular Ride to the steps of the old lighthouse for spectacular panoramic views. Return to Cape Town and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

NOTE: Each year, generally in early August, the Table Mountain cableway closes for yearly maintenance. During this time, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens will be visited.

Day 3: Cape Town

Enjoy a full day at leisure for your own discoveries. Perhaps explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, take an excursion to the stunning Cape winelands for wine tasting, or cruise to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. Your Tour Director has suggestions to help you make the most of your day.

Day 4: Cape Town – Stony Point Nature Reserve – Hermanus – Mossel Bay

This morning, depart Cape Town and drive to Stony Point Nature Reserve to see a Colony Of Endangered African Penguins. Known for the unique sound they make, these penguins grow to an average height of two feet and live in burrows and rock crevices along the beach. Stop in Hermanus for independent exploration before reaching Mossel Bay for the evening.

Day 5: Mossel Bay – Oudtshoorn – Knysna

Drive north to Oudtshoorn and stop for a visit of the Cango Caves to see the stunning limestone rock formations. You will also visit a local Ostrich Farm. Continue on to Knysna.

Day 6: Nysna – Featherbed Nature Reserve Excursion

Today, explore the spectacular Featherbed Nature Reserve. Start, with a CRUISE on Knysna Lagoon to see a variety of bird and marine life. Then, join your expert guide and take a 4-wheel drive vehicle into the reserve stopping at several points for panoramic views of the lagoon and Indian Ocean. You will also take a Guided Walk through the unique coastal forest into ancient sea caves and along the shore of Coffin Bay. Lunch is served under a canopy of Milkwood trees overlooking the lagoon, a truly memorable experience! Afterwards, you will have time to explore the Knysna waterfront or simply relax at your hotel.

NOTE: The guided walk is over one mile long, downhill. Alternatively, you can return by 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Day 7: Knysna – Port Elizabeth –  Durban – Umhlanga

This morning, drive to Port Elizabeth where you will board your flight to Durban. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in nearby Umhlanga for the evening.

Day 8: Umhlanga – Shakaland – Hluhluwe

Today, visit Shakaland, a replica of a traditional Zulu homestead and living monument to their culture. Here, learn more about Zulu history and see how they hand craft ceramics and brew beer. This afternoon, drive to Hluhluwe.

Day 9: Hluhluwe

This morning, take a Game Drive in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, the oldest proclaimed wildlife reserve in all of Africa. The park is home to the “Big 5”-lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. You also have the chance to see giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and much more! After time to rest, embark on an Afternoon Boat Ride on Lake St. Lucia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the cruise, you are likely to spot hippo, Nile crocodile, and a variety of bird life.

Day 10: Hluhluwe – Eswatini

Today, drive to eSwatini. En route, stop at a Local Market and visit a Glass Factory where glass blowers use recycled glass to create stemware, animals, and more.

Day 11: Eswatini – Kruger National Park Area

Depart eSwatini and head north for the Kruger area. Enjoy leisure time at your lodge this afternoon in preparation for your day of game viewing in the world-renowned Kruger National Park tomorrow.

Day 12: Kruger Area

Rise between 5 am and 5:30 am for coffee and tea before your Early Morning Game Drive with an experienced guide. If the timing is right, you might spot some of the big cats after a night of hunting. Spend some time at leisure in the middle of the day. Perhaps book a spa treatment or simply relax at the pool. Be sure to watch for kudu, impala, giraffe, cheetah, spotted hyena, and more on your Afternoon Game Drive. As darkness descends, your guide will bring out a spotlight to help you spot nocturnal animals. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 13: Kruger Area – Mpumalanga

Today, drive along the Panoramic Route known for its dramatic landscapes. Along the way, drive through Blyde River Canyon and stop to see God’s Window, the Three Rondavels, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes with its stunning rock formations carved by the Blyde River.

Hotel: Fortis Hotel Malaga

Day 14: Mpumalanga – Pretoria – Depart Johannesburg

Drive to Pretoria to see the Voortrekker Monument and Union Buildings. Continue on to Johannesburg, where your tour ends at the airport. Book homebound flights after 4 pm.

Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg – Kruger National Park

From Johannesburg, fly to Kruger National Park. Be whisked away to Shishangeni Private Lodge, a private concession in the national park. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner later this evening.

Kruger National Park is the perfect place to look for the Big Five as well as a host of smaller mammals. A morning game drive is the optimum time to spot some of Africa’s most iconic creatures. The sun is yet to reach its peak, the temperature is still cool and animals are very active. Return to your lodge for breakfast before some time at leisure. After lunch, enjoy the chance to head out into the bush with a guide. Keep on the lookout for slumbering lions and Cape Buffalo grazing. After morning and afternoon game drives, toast to the day’s game sightings while taking in the sunset with a drink in hand, before enjoying an authentic outdoor boma dinner beneath the starlit sky.

Are you ready for even more wildlife watching? A morning game drive will give you yet another chance to scour the park’s diverse landscapes for wildlife. You’ll then fly back to Johannesburg. With an afternoon at leisure, perhaps spend time exploring Soweto, the hometown of Nelson Mandela. Spend the evening relaxing at your hotel.

After morning and afternoon game drives, toast to the day’s game sightings while taking in the sunset with a drink in hand, before enjoying an authentic outdoor boma dinner beneath the starlit sky.Southern Sun Hyde Park

After breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for your included flight to Victoria Falls. On arrival, head to the World Heritage-listed falls where a local guide will reveal to you the wonders of the Zimbabwean side of this natural spectacle. This side of the falls is home to the Victoria Falls Rainforest – the only place on Earth where it rains all day and night thanks to its proximity to the falls. Perhaps glimpse the unique flora and fauna that thrive here. Afterwards, cross over to the Zambian side, where you’ll check in to your resort. This afternoon, perhaps wander the immaculate grounds and meet the resident zebras and giraffes that roam the resort, or take the short stroll to the Victoria Falls Lookout.

Today is dedicated to exploring Victoria Falls from every angle. During your free day, perhaps enjoy a helicopter or microlight flight, taking in the vast expanse of the falls from the sky. Or, head out on a sunset cruise along the Zambezi, keeping an eye out for wildlife along the way.

Savour breakfast at your hotel before crossing the Zambezi River by ferry into Botswana and onwards to renowned Chobe National Park for a game drive. Following lunch, take a cruise along the Chobe River and spot wildlife from a new perspective. Return to Livingstone.

Fly to Nairobi, the beating heart of East Africa. Tonight, enjoy dinner at one of the four restaurants at your hotel (own expense).

Transfer to your flight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro and onto Serengeti National Park. The name can be translated from the Maasai language to mean ‘the place where the land runs forever’ and this vast land is best-known as a host to the seasonal Great Migration. Stay at Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti. Relax by the campfire before dinner, then retire to your tented room with an ensuite.

A full-day of game drives at Serengeti National Park offers yet another window into life in Africa’s animal kingdom. In the morning, head out in search of wildlife, armed with your camera ready to capture the wildlife that appears before you. The Serengeti is famous for its predators who spend their days pursuing impalas, zebras, buffalo, gazelle and more. Return to your camp for lunch before another round of game spotting. The day draws to a conclusion with dinner this evening.

From an elusive leopard lazing in the shade of a tree, to a braying zebra, trumpeting elephant and chuffing lion, enjoy a further chance to commit to memory all the sights and sounds of the African savannah.

Leave the Serengeti behind and take to the skies, where you’ll enjoy aerial sightseeing en route to the endless rolling plains of the Masai Mara. The vast open spaces provide excellent game viewing, which is why this reserve is one of the most well-regarded for wildlife in all of Africa. Upon touching down, keep an eye out for elephant herds and towering giraffes. This afternoon, head out on a game drive, noticing the unique landscapes to those in Southern Africa and Tanzania.
