The great rainforests of Borneo present a multitude of exciting activities, from the ancient equatorial rainforest in Mulu National Park to the lovable orang-utans in Sabah.

Day 1: Kuching

Arrive in Kuching and meet your guide and transfer to the your hotel. The remainder of the day is free at leisure.

Day 2: Bako National Park

Head to nearby Bako National Park, famous for the proboscis monkey.

Day 3: Mulu National Park

Fly to Mulu National Park. Explore Deer Cave, home to millions of bats and swifts. There is a mass exodus of the bats at dusk which is a truly amazing sight to see.

Day 4: Mulu National Park

Mulu National Park has an incredible array of fauna and flora to explore. Members of the Penan tribe live within the park and are quite an elusive tribe. There is the opportunity to experience the 480 metre Canopy Walkway, the longest tropical canopy walkway in the world.

Day 5: Mulu National Park – Kota Kinabalu

Rise early for the dawn chorus in Mulu. Take a walk along some of the self-guided trails. After lunch fly to Kota Kinabalu, with free time on arrival.

Day 6: Kota Kinabalu

Today is free to enjoy some of the many activities Kota Kinabalu has to offer – snorkelling, diving or simply relaxing.

Day 7: Kinabalu National Park

Travel two hours by road to Kinabalu National Park. Stop en route at Nabalu market where villagers come to sell their produce and handicraft. You will also have a tour of a tea plantation where you will spend the night in a traditional Rungus, bamboo longhouse.

Day 8: Sepilok

The journey to Sepilok is around five hours. Stop at the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary where you will have an up close look at this extraordinary animal.

Day 9: Kinabalu National Park – Sepilok

Visit the world famous Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. It is the largest orangutan sanctuary in the world and helps to rehabilitate orphans and release captured orang-utans into the wild. There is also the option to visit Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre later on.

Day 10: Sepilok – Danum Valley

Drive to Lahad Datu, then off-road to Danum Valley Conservation Area, home to many rare and endangered species of mammals and birds. Take an afternoon nature trek to try and spot orang-utan and other wildlife.

Day 11: Danum Valley 

A full day will be spent exploring the trails, the 300m canopy walkway and waterfalls, whilst searching for wildlife in this remarkable place. There is a chance to see orang-utan, deer, giant flying squirrels, gibbons and more!

Day 12: Kinabatangan River

Take a final early morning nature walk before departing for Kinabatangan River. This area has one of the highest concentrations of orang-utans and proboscis monkeys in Malaysian Borneo, with the chance to see much more.

Day 13: Kinabatangan River

Be up with the animals at dawn for a wildlife cruise, followed by a trek. In the afternoon take another cruise to see what wildlife you can spot, including perhaps a crocodile.

Day 14: Gomantong Caves – Sandakan

Journey to Sandakan by road stopping on the way at the bizarre Gomantong Caves

Day 15: Sandakan

The trip ends after breakfast.

Day 1: Kota Kinabalu

Transfer from the airport to your hotel.

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu

Enjoy a cruise through Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. Spend the day snorkelling in the clear waters and relax on some white sand islands. Later discover the local tribes at Mari Mari Cultural Village. The village operates as a museum preserving Borneo’s ethnic culture and features five different ethnic tribes in one village.

Day 3: Kota Kinabalu – Poring Hot Springs

Today head out to the cooler climes of Kinabalu Park, home to between 5000-6000 species of plants and 430 different birds and mammals. Stop at Kundasang War Memorial, and then continue to Poring Hot Springs for overnight.

Day 4: Poring Hot Springs

Today is free for you to relax and spend some time at the springs. The energetic can take to some self-guided trails. There is also a butterfly garden, orchid garden (closed on Mondays) and a canopy walk for an additional cost.

Day 5: Poring Hot Springs – Kinabatangan

The Kinabatangan River is one of the longest rivers in Borneo and is home to some of Borneo’s highest concentrations of wildlife. In the afternoon, head out on a river cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, orang-utans and elephant.

Day 6: Kinabatangan

Today it’s all about the wildlife. Dawn and dusk are the best times and you will enjoy boat cruises at these times to look for proboscis monkeys, silver leaf and long tail macaques and, if you’re lucky, elephants.

Day 7: Kinabatangan – Sepilok

Today visit a proboscis monkey sanctuary at Labuk Bay. This is a great chance to see these amazing animals up close. Afterwards transfer to Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary for the afternoon feeding session of Borneo’s most iconic mammal. It is also possible to arrange a night walk at Sepilok.

Day 8: Sepilok – Sandakan

Today you will be transferred to Sandakan Airport where your trip ends.
