True North – Sydney Rocks New Year Spectacular

Sydney Harbour is an epicentre of excitement on New Years Eve and being outrageously spoilt on-board the True North is the penultimate option to experience all! Begin with a sumptuous dinner on one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Spend a day exploring the harbour before starting the New Year with a bang as we park the True North ‘bridge-side’ for one of the world’s most spectacular fireworks displays. Spend the next 2 days soaking-up the tranquillity of the Hawkesbury – wilderness on the doorstep of Australia’s largest city. No need to call a taxi – you don’t even need a reservation for dinner! A truly very different way to experience Sydney.

Day 1: Sydney – Welcome Aboard the True North

Welcome aboard the magnificent True North in magnificent Sydney Harbour. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner as you are treated to an evening cruise on one of the finest harbours in the world!

Day 2: Sydney (News Years Eve)

Visit Sydney’s famed Taronga Zoo or take-off in the helicopter for a scenic flight over the harbour. The adventure-boats will tour past Bradleys Head, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Kirribilli House and onto Woolloomooloo. Hop-off to walk through the Botanical Gardens before taking-in the sights at Rushcutters Bay and Elizabeth Bay.

Cruise onto Rose Bay and take a stroll up to The Gap and the Hornsby Lighthouse. Then return to the True North and one of Sydney’s best vantages to witness the Harbour Bridge fireworks display – Happy New Year!

Day 3: Pittwater

Enjoy breakfast in the beautiful surrounds of Pittwater. Morning activities will include a walk to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, perhaps a little beachcombing and, a scenic cruise past the Pittwater yacht clubs. We then enter the tranquil waters of the Hawkesbury River. There may also be a chance to walk from Longnose Point to Flint and Steel Bay through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park – Australia’s second oldest national park.

A helicopter flight to the Hunter Valley and a wine tasting at our feature winery is sure to be a cruise highlight!

Day 4: Jerusalem Bay

Wake to the shrill of the Jerusalem Bay cicadas and then join our local guide as we explore beautiful Cowen Creek. Stand in the very spot where the Constitution of Australia was written and see the rock art of those who came before. Enjoy a refreshing swim at one of the Creek’s many sheltered beaches and rinse-off under a waterfall.

Whilst you are enjoying lunch, the True North will cruise to Middle Harbour before slipping through the narrow channel at Split Bridge and into delightful Bantry Bay. As the sun starts to set over mangrove-lined waters, join an infamous True North ‘raft-up’. It’s back on-board for another cruise highlight – dance the night away with our live band.

Day 5: Sydney

The True North will cruise back into Sydney Harbour for an early morning disembarkation.

Day 1: Sydney – Welcome Aboard the True North

Welcome aboard the magnificent True North in magnificent Sydney Harbour. Christmas dinner will be served as the True North cruises one of the finest harbours in the world!

Day 2: Sydney – Pittwater

Start the day with something special – a visit to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia on starting day! See and experience the pre-race tension as the contenders prepare for one the world’s famous yacht races! Enjoy a champagne breakfast on the bow and watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart from one of the most enviable platforms in the harbour. Then visit famed Taronga Zoo or the ubiquitous Opera House before we enjoy a leisurely afternoon cruise ‘past the heads’ and along Sydney’s revered northern beaches to picturesque Pittwater – more opportunity to dine in style!

Day 3: Pittwater – Jerusalem Bay

Enjoy breakfast in the beautiful surrounds of Pittwater. Morning activities will include a walk to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, beach combing and a scenic cruise past the Pittwater Yacht clubs. There may also be a chance to walk from Longnose Point to Flint and Steel Bay through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park – Australia’s second oldest national park.

Enjoy a swim or a bush walk through the surrounding national park. Sunset drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served on the beach before an evening cruise to Jerusalem Bay.

For the disciples, an afternoon round of golf might also be possible.

Day 4: Jerusalem Bay – Hawkesbury

Wake up to the shrill of the Jerusalem Bay cicadas. Join the crew for a bush walk along the Jerusalem Bay Bush Trail or head out in the tenders for sight seeing and swimming. Then savour a lunch on the sparkling waters of Cowan Creek, or get an aerial perspective of this stunning region from our luxury helicopter!

In the afternoon the True North will anchor at the mouth of the mighty Hawkesbury. Take a scenic ride in one of the ship’s adventure boats to the river’s upper reaches or visit a local Oyster farm.

And in the evening a live band to make your last night in the Hawkesbury a night to remember!

Day 5: Hawkesbury- Sydney

The True North will cruise back into Sydney Harbour for 0800 disembarkation.

Day 1: Welcome to Sydney

Day 2: Sydney Sights & Harbour Cruise Lunch

Admire one of the iconic buildings of the 20th century during a guided tour of the Sydney Opera House. See the city sights before visiting famous Bondi Beach. Back in the city board a lunch cruise on Sydney Harbour. Later, travel across the Harbour Bridge to Milsons Point for views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Head east to La Perouse, a historical headland suburb with views across the bay to Captain Cook’s landing place at Kurnell in 1770. See the historical buildings and learn how the Aboriginal people were impacted. Wander cobbled laneways in the Rocks District on a walking tour and hear how the area has transformed from a British colony of convicts and sailors to a thriving entertainment precinct.

Day 3: Blue Mountains & Wildlife Park

Explore the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park. View the famous Three Sisters rock formation from a perfect vantage point before arriving at Scenic World, where you’ll witness the vastness of the Blue Mountains and enjoy 360° views of the Jamison Valley. You can ride the Scenic Railway, Cableway, or Skyway, a great way to see the steep valleys and canyons, and follow the boardwalk along the valley floor (own expense). Visit picturesque Leura, a delightful blend of quaint shops and groomed gardens. Visit Sydney Zoo to see native Australian animals including koalas, wombats and echidnas. There are free-roaming kangaroos, wallabies and emus to interact with. There’s also an aquarium with bull sharks and penguins, and an underground Reptile & Nocturnal House. Get a close-up view of chimps, baboons and monkeys, and see animals from Asia & Africa including lions, tigers, pandas, giraffes and rhinos, from the boardwalk.

Day 4: Depart Sydney

Today you have the freedom to enjoy the Gold Coast in your own style. Nature lovers may head to Mt. Tamborine, foodies explore the growing culinary culture or those needing relaxation just stroll down to the sand and salt of Surfers Paradise Beach.

Enjoy a sneak peek into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. See how AAT Kings works with the Wildlife Warriors to support the koala rehabilitation project at the hospital, the country’s largest and busiest wildlife facility. This afternoon the ferry will take you across to the World Heritage listed K’gari, also known as Fraser Island.

A day of discovery lies ahead as your 4WD tour takes you for a ride around the island’s must-see sites. Visit Lake McKenzie, ringed with magnificent white sandy beaches. Walk through the ancient rainforest at Central Station and Wanggoolba Creek with its huge satiny, scribbly gum and kauri trees. Across the island to 75 Mile Beach, the sand highway will take you up the eastern coast to the Pinnacles Coloured Sands; cooling, calm waters of Eli Creek and the famous sinking Maheno Shipwreck.

Visit Langmorn Station, a fully operational family run cattle station. Meet the Creed family and take a guided tour of the property including the original family homestead, built in 1873. Enjoy afternoon tea in the garden in the company of the pet kangaroo! Cross the Tropic of Capricorn as you arrive in Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia. Your night is free so why not try some local beef at one of the town’s steakhouses.

Travel north to Sarina today for a guided tour of its unique miniature sugar mill and distillery. At Airlie Beach you’ll catch the ferry to Hamilton Island, one of 74 islands that make up the Whitsunday group in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Today is yours to indulge in your own pleasures – consider an optional experience. Perhaps cruise to famous Whitehaven Beach, take a scenic flight over the iconic Heart Reef or sit back with a good book by one of the resort’s stunning pools.

Take the ferry back to the mainland this morning, from where you’ll head north to the seaside town of Mission Beach. Nestled between World Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, your accommodation offers superb views over the Coral Sea.

Today’s journey takes you to the Atherton Tablelands, with its lush rainforests, spectacular waterfalls and peaceful lakes. Spend some free time in Kuranda, the ‘village in the rainforest’, before travelling on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
