Day 1: Darwin – Jumping Crocodile Cruise – Kakadu

Cruise on the Adelaide River. Later, travel into Kakadu National Park, home to a myriad of animals and hundreds of bird species. Stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre, and then continue to Ubirr. Climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries to the lookout for a spectacular view over Kakadu.

Day 2: Kakadu – Katherine

This morning you’ll be mesmerised as you explore the renowned Nourlangie rock art site, which had provided shelter to Indigenous people for millennia. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre for an insight into the local Bininj culture. Later, join your local guide for a cruise to experience the dramatic scenery on Yellow Water Billabong. Kakadu’s most famous wetland is home to saltwater crocodiles and dozens of species of colourful birdlife. Before arriving in Katherine, stop at Leliyn (Edith Falls), whose pandanus-fringed natural pool is suitable for swimming throughout most of the year (conditions permitting).

Day 3: Katherine – Depart Darwin

Enjoy a morning cruise through Katherine Gorge, a stunning network of thirteen gorges carved from billion-year-old sandstone. You’ll be at its heart among freshwater crocodiles wonderful birdlife and amazing scenery. Later, view the displays at the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, where you may purchase artefacts handmade by the Jawoyn people. Return to Darwin, stopping at historic gold mining town of Pine Creek and the poignant Adelaide River War Cemetery. Your Short Break concludes this evening.

This morning, head off with your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage area of Ubirr, where you’ll explore extensive Aboriginal rock art galleries believed to be 20,000 years old, and considered among the best in the world. Climb to the lookout for stunning views over the floodplains, woodlands and dark ribbons of rainforest of the surrounding Nadab wetlands. Then take the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise along the East Alligator River, where an Aboriginal guide will provide insights into their culture, including local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit Bowali Visitor Centre, which houses a wealth of information on the Park’s ecology and Aboriginal culture. Finally, you’ll return to Darwin, where your Short Break concludes.

Day 1: Arrive Uluru – Uluru Sacred Sites & Sunset

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you’ll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm). Visit Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn more about the Western Desert region, then tour the sacred sites around the base of Uluru with a local Driver Guide. Walk to sacred Mutitjulu Waterhole, and view ancient Aboriginal rock art. Later, relax with a glass of sparkling wine as the sun sets over Uluru, bringing out the myriad shades of colour for which the world’s largest monolith is renowned.

Day 2: Kings Canyon

Travel to Kings Canyon and make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Time permitting, you may choose to descend into the green oasis of the ‘Garden of Eden’. Or, you may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed. Return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Day 3: Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas) – Uluṟu Sunset

Watch the sunrise at Uluru, then travel to Kata Tjuta. Spend time exploring Walpa Gorge and its unusual rock formations. This afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Then, join your guide for a drive around the base of Uluru. Continue to the Kuniya Walk, where you’ll be escorted to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. View ancient rock art and learn about the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Late afternoon, witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset with sparkling wine

This morning travel by 4WD vehicle into Arnhem Land and the Mikinj Valley. The scenery includes sandstone outcrops, escarpments, forests, floodplains and billabongs. You’ll visit places inaccessible to most, including ancient rock art sites. Learn about traditional land ownership, bush skills, hunting, food gathering and bush tucker preparation. Most tours are accompanied by an Aboriginal guide.

Day 3: Gunlom Falls

Travel by 4WD through the southern end of Kakadu to visit famous Gunlom Falls, and the plunge pool suitable fora swim, plus the stunning Ikoymarrwa Rock Pool. Finish the day with drinks and canapés by a private billabong.

Day 4: Kakadu – Guluyambi Cultural Cruise – Depart Darwin

Stop at Ubirr for a short walk to view Aboriginal rock art. Later, join the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise along the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture. Day 1: Welcome to Uluru

Welcome to Uluru. This afternoon you’ll meet your Journey Director and fellow travellers and then take a drive to Uluru- Kata Tjuta National Park. Having lived in the region for tens of thousands of years, Traditional Owners, the Anangu, have a strong connection with this land. You’ll learn about Tjukurpa, the history, knowledge, religion, morality and law of the local Aboriginal people and their ancestors. Travelling to the spectacular domes of Kata Tjuta, you’ll take a guided walk through Walpa Gorge, following the natural creek bed between two of the largest domes. Kata Tjuta has great cultural significance for the Anangu people, specifically for Anangu men. Later enjoy canapés and wine at the Uluru sunset viewing area. As the sun sets over the western horizon, the evening sky brings out the many shades of colour for which Uluru is renowned. This evening get to know your fellow travellers over a delicious meal at Ilkari Restaurant at your hotel.

Day 2: Uluru Curtin Springs – Kings Canyon

Start the day with an impressive sunrise over Uluru from the sunrise viewing area. Take a walk at the base of Uluru and hear timeless stories, see rock art, and visit Mutitjulu Waterhole, once an important water source for the Aboriginal people and animals in the area. Visit Curtin Springs Station at lunch time. Curtin Springs has been home to the Severin family since 1956, when Peter Severin arrived with his young wife Dawn, their toddler son Ashley and 1,500 head of cattle. Take part in a paper-making workshop at Curtin Springs Paper then sit down to a barbecue lunch and meet one of the locals as you hear about the Severin family and the logistics of running a million-acre cattle property. This evening you’re treated to Local Dining Experience, Under a Desert Moon, set in the wilderness under a canopy of the southern night sky (weather permitting). Enjoy sparkling wine and canapés followed by a four-course dinner, prepared from fresh produce.

Day 3: Kings Canyon – Mereenie Loop – Alice Springs

Perfect for observing the changing colours of the landscape, today you’re off on a sunrise six-kilometre Rim Walk exploration of the spectacular Kings Canyon. As you venture around the rim, highlights include the domed ‘Lost City’, and the luscious ‘Garden of Eden’. If you’d prefer a more relaxed walk you can opt for a walk along the Creek Bed. Afterwards you’re off the beaten track, travelling along the Mereenie Loop Road past Gosses Bluff, through the West MacDonnell Ranges and then continue to Alice Springs for dinner at your hotel.

Day 4: West MacDonnell Ranges

This morning you will visit the historic Overland Telegraph Station and learn about the overland telegraph line and why Alice Springs is in this location. Tonight, enjoy a Local Dining Experience with your hosts at an open-air barbecue dinner with campfires as the Milky Way lights up the wide Australian sky.

Day 5: Farewell From Alice Springs

This morning you’ll visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service, to see how this facility provides medical assistance to those living in remote outback Australia. Before your trip comes to an end, visit the School of the Air and learn how children living in the far reaches of the Outback receive an education over the air waves. Your Inspiring Journey concludes in the late morning.

Day 1: Welcome to Darwin

On arrival in tropical Darwin, enjoy a tour of the cosmopolitan city before joining your Travel Director and fellow travellers at the colourful Mindil Beach Sunset Market to experience a spectacular sunset under the coconut palms. Travel to Litchfield National Park, pausing to examine the amazing phenomenon of hundreds of magnetic termite mounds standing up to two metres high in a wide swathe of otherwise empty terrain. Stop at Florence Falls, a spectacular double-plunge waterfall leading to a popular swimming hole, before venturing on to tropical Wangi Falls for a swim in its large waterhole surrounded by spectacular monsoon rainforest. Continue to Katherine, a thriving town that was originally established as an outpost on the Australian Overland Telegraph Line..

Day 3: Katherine & Nitmiluk National Park

This morning, meet Manuel Pamkal to share his passion for the rich traditional culture into which he was born. There is the opportunity to purchase some local Indigenous art. Later, sit back and relax in tranquil surroundings as you cruise on Katherine Gorge. A series of thirteen deep gorges carved through ancient rock, there are many Aboriginal paintings on the sandstone walls throughout the system, some of which are thousands of years old. Discover the history and culture of the Jawoyn people, the traditional owners of Nitmiluk, as you explore the magnificent gorges with a backdrop of stunning rock-faces that change colour with the setting of the sun. Keep an eye out for freshwater crocodiles nesting along the banks. This evening, consider the optional experience of the Stockman’s Bush Dinner under the stars.

Day 4: Katherine – Kakadu National Park

This morning you have the opportunity to swim in the waterholes of magnificent Edith Falls. Then pass through the mining town of Pine Creek, where buildings date back to the heady gold-rush days. Travel deep into World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park and discover spectacular escarpment, serene waterholes and teeming wildlife. Board the famed Yellow Water Billabong Cruise, spotting basking crocodiles and abundant birdlife with a local guide. Later, take a guided walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock paintings at Nourlangie, regarded as one of the premier rock art sites in the Top End.

Day 5: Kakadu National Park

This morning, perhaps take an optional experience scenic flight over Kakadu. Later, visit Ubirr, another of Kakadu’s foremost rock art galleries. The paintings here provide a fascinating record of Indigenous life over thousands of years: look for naturalistic paintings of animals, traditional x-ray art, and paintings of early contact with European people. Before leaving the site, climb to the top of a nearby rocky outcrop for superb views over the floodplains and escarpment country. Day 6: Farewell from Darwin

Leave Kakadu this morning to return to Darwin. Keep an eye on the murky river crossings to see if you can spot saltwater crocodiles. Your final stop is Fogg Dam, a birdwatcher’s paradise. Bid farewell to your fellow travellers as your holiday comes to an end and you are transferred to Darwin Airport for your onward flight.

Witness the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Continue to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta from the dune viewing platform, before arriving at Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the conglomerate rock formations. In the early afternoon travel to Kings Canyon.

Climb a 100 metre cliff and walk 6kms along the rim of the canyon for impressive views of grottos, chasms and cliffs. Deep between the sandstone cliffs is the Garden of Eden, a waterhole surrounded by exotic plants. Or, set off on a two-kilometre stroll along the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed that leads to impressive views of the canyon rim. Later, travel through the desert landscapes, with informative commentary provided by your Driver Guide, to Alice Springs where your Short Break concludes.
