Day 1: Arrive Gold Coast

Fly to the Gold Coast where you’ll transfer to your hotel for the night and meet your Tour Director.

Day 2: Gold Coast – Australia Zoo – Sunshine Coast

Depart Gold Coast and head to the Sunshine Coast to visit Australia Zoo, made famous by the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. Continue to the Sunshine Coast for the night.

Day 3: Noosa – Fraser Island

Spend some time this morning exploring the resort before travelling north to beautiful World Heritage-listed Fraser Island.

Day 4: Fraser Island

Today you’ll discover this beautiful island with a half-day guided tour. Then, with an afternoon at leisure, perhaps visit the historic wreck of the Maheno – a trans-Tasman liner that was driven ashore during a cyclone in 1932 (own expense). Alternatively, make the most of the island’s many walking tracks, or simply relax on a peaceful stretch
of white sand with a good book.

Day 5: Fraser Island – Hervey Bay – Rockhampton

This morning, enjoy a ferry crossing to Hervey Bay while keeping an eye out for marine life. Rejoin your coach for the journey north, travelling through sugar cane country. Later, arrive in the inland city of Rockhampton, known as the beef capital of Australia, farming more than 2.5 million head of cattle within a 250-kilometre radius of the city. Wide streets and fine Victorian architecture reflect the region’s wealthy 19th-century gold and copper mining boom, as well as the successful cattle industry.

Day 6: Rockhampton – Hamilton Island

This morning, travel to Airlie Beach, which is known as the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, Here, you’ll board a ferry for your journey through this tropical archipelago, before arriving for your two-night stay at the picturesque resort of Hamilton Island. In the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, this small island is one of the only inhabited islands in the Whitsundays. Settle into your hotel and relax this evening.

Day 7: Hamilton Island

Today is yours to spend at leisure on spectacular Hamilton Island. Perhaps snorkel off the beach and discover the region’s many species of tropical fish, or simply take the time to relax by one of your resort’s swimming pools.

Day 8: Hamilton Island – Townsville – Mission Beach

Transfer from Hamilton Island to the Port of Airlie where you’ll reboard your coach and travel to Townsville. Here, tour this tropical city, surrounded by rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Then depart Townsville for Mission Beach.

Day 9: Mission Beach – Atherton Tablelands – Cairns

Rolling green hills, open farmland and tropical rainforest characterise the Atherton Tablelands, which form part of the Great Dividing Range. Surrounded by tranquil rainforest, experience the peaceful oasis of Millaa Millaa Falls. You’ll also visit the Curtain Fig Tree. Later, at the scenic village of Kuranda, you’ll board the Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. This afternoon, arrive in Cairns and enjoy views of the city skyline from your spacious room at the Bailey, a Crystalbrook Collection Hotel.

Day 10: Great Barrier Reef

Day 11: Port Douglas – Depart Cairns

Drive to Port Douglas for a tour. Later, transfer to the airport.

Day 1: Welcome to Cairns

Make your own way from Cairns Airport to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure

Day 2: Cape Tribulation & Daintree

Visit the Mossman Gorge Gateway Centre for morning tea before boarding your shuttle for the transfer into Mossman Gorge. Your Driver Guide will take you for a guided walk, sharing their knowledge of this enchanting rainforest environment. Learn about the fascinating secrets of one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests. Reach an understanding of this wildlife environment on a one-hour cruise; habitat of birds, tree snakes, unique plants and the estuarine crocodile. With special access at a private rainforest property, enjoy a short walk along a delightful rainforest creek before a delicious tropical lunch. Enjoy an afternoon refreshment at the Daintree Ice Cream Company. After winding through the rainforest of the Alexandra Range, enjoy this spectacular lookout over the Daintree River estuary, Snapper Island and beyond to the Coral Sea.

Day 3: Great Barrier Reef

Escape into a world of surprises where you can experience first-hand the breathtaking beauty of the Outer Great Barrier Reef. This cruise transfers you to a stable reef activity platform which is a perfect base for swimmers and non-swimmers alike to explore this natural wonder. Snorkel (equipment provided) amongst beautiful coral gardens or stay dry and discover the reef from the underwater observatory and/or the air-conditioned semi-submersible vessel. Enjoy a buffet lunch before returning to Cairns in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Cairns ‘Free Time’

Today, relax and unwind or discover any of several Cairns’ hidden gems.

Day 5: Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures

This afternoon, take the scenic drive to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. After arrival, there is then plenty of free time to explore the remainder of the park, including the unique eco experience of the Wetlands cruise through the ecologically significant Melaleuca wetlands, the domain of the saltwater crocodile. Explore the rest of the park with its abundance of wildlife including water birds, turtles, wallabies and cassowaries. See the notorious head shake and death roll of a huge crocodile at the Crocodile Attack Show. Discover the world’s most venomous snakes at the Snake Show.

Day 6: Kuranda Scenic Railway & Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

On arrival at Freshwater Station, board the Kuranda Scenic Rail for an historical rail journey to Kuranda enjoying breathtaking views across the cane fields of Cairns, to the tropical rainforest of Kuranda. Wind through hand-hewn tunnels, across bridges and curves, all the time appreciating what an amazing engineering feat it is. In Kuranda, it’s time to explore this fascinating Village. The Heritage Markets are full of colourful and interesting arts and crafts. You might also like to visit Birdworld, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary or Kuranda Koala Gardens (own expense). Board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for your 7.5km journey over and through World Heritage protected rainforest to Smithfield. Your 90-minute iconic rainforest experience showcases ancient rainforest and spectacular views with time at both Red Peak and Barron Falls Stations for education and interpretation.

Day 7: Farewell from Cairns

Day 1: Welcome to Cairns

Day 2: Great Barrier Reef

Board a high-speed catamaran to cruise through sparkling turquoise waters to the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Extending over 35 million hectares, it’s the largest reef structure and marine park in the world and offers an experience like no other. View spectacular coral and tropical fish from the onboard underwater observatory and semi-submersible craft, or go snorkelling and experience this natural wonder up-close (equipment provided). Enjoy a tropical buffet lunch before returning to Cairns.

Day 3: Tjapukai – Skyrail – Kuranda

Visit the fascinating Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, which has been built in a spectacular rainforest setting. Discover this ancient culture through bush food lessons, didgeridoo demonstrations and the famous Tjapukai Dance. A short distance away is the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. This will take you directly above the canopy of the Barron Gorge National Park. En route to Kuranda, there are 2 stations where you can enjoy a walk through the rainforest and observe its beauty from spectacular lookouts. On arrival there is free time to explore the ‘village in the rainforest’, including the Heritage Markets. Later, board the Kuranda Scenic Rail for a historic journey travelling through some of the oldest rainforest in the world. Your journey winds through man-made tunnels, across bridges and around curves to arrive at its final destination, Freshwater Station. Return to Cairns in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Farewell from Cairns

Today you have the freedom to enjoy the Gold Coast in your own style. Nature lovers may head to Mt. Tamborine, foodies explore the growing culinary culture or those needing relaxation just stroll down to the sand and salt of Surfers Paradise Beach.

Enjoy a sneak peek into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. See how AAT Kings works with the Wildlife Warriors to support the koala rehabilitation project at the hospital, the country’s largest and busiest wildlife facility. This afternoon the ferry will take you across to the World Heritage listed K’gari, also known as Fraser Island.

A day of discovery lies ahead as your 4WD tour takes you for a ride around the island’s must-see sites. Visit Lake McKenzie, ringed with magnificent white sandy beaches. Across the island to 75 Mile Beach, the sand highway will take you up the eastern coast to the Pinnacles Coloured Sands; cooling, calm waters of Eli Creek and the famous sinking Maheno Shipwreck.

Visit Langmorn Station, a fully operational family run cattle station. Meet the Creed family and take a guided tour of the property including the original family homestead, built in 1873. Enjoy afternoon tea in the garden in the company of the pet kangaroo! Cross the Tropic of Capricorn as you arrive in Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia. Your night is free so why not try some local beef at one of the town’s steakhouses.

Take the ferry back to the mainland this morning, from where you’ll head north to the seaside town of Mission Beach. Nestled between World Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, your accommodation offers superb views over the Coral Sea.

Today’s journey takes you to the Atherton Tablelands, with its lush rainforests, spectacular waterfalls and peaceful lakes. Visit Millaa Millaa Falls and the heritage listed 500-yearold Curtain Fig Tree, and keep an eye out for the magnificent Ulysses butterfly. Spend some free time in Kuranda, the ‘village in the rainforest’, before travelling on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Your six-person gondola will provide spectacular views of the rainforest and the Coral Sea.

Board a high-speed catamaran today and cruise out to the iconic Great Barrier Reef, the only living organism that can be seen from the moon. Enjoy a tropical buffet lunch on board, before you return in the late afternoon for a Farewell Dinner with your Travel Director and new-found friends.
