Day 2: Ljubljana – Postojna Caves – Zadar, Croatia
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights on this tour is a visit to the Postojna Caves. Your included visit is comprised of a Train Ride and a walking tour, which will allow you to see what are possibly Europe’s most extensive and best-known caves. Then, into Croatia, travelling along the coast to Zadar. Over the centuries, Zadar was ruled by Venetians, Austro/Hungarians, by italy after WWi, and today it belongs to Croatia. Day 3: Zadar – Split – Dubrovnik

The paved squares and steep alleyways of Zagreb are ours to explore this morning as we join a ‘Local Specialist’ to delve into the city’s rich medieval and religious history. See the majestic cathedral on Kaptol and St. Mark’s Church, with its vividly coloured tiled roof. Admire the Opera House, then take a stroll around the 17th-century Ban Jelačić Square. Spend the rest of the afternoon on your own – enjoy panoramic city views from Strossmatre, pay tribute to Zagreb’s patron saint at the Stone Gate or wander through the Old Town, twirling your Šestine umbrella as you ramble through its labyrinthine lanes. Day 3: Zagreb – Sarajevo

Delving into the depths below Sarajevo, we join a ‘Local Specialist’ for an insider tour of the Bosnian war tunnel which allowed food, war supplies and humanitarian aid to come into the city, and people to get out. Day 4: Sarajevo
Join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a guided walking tour of the city’s Old Town, past the largest mosque in the Balkans, the Eternal Flame and the Sarajevo Roses that are dotted across the city as a stark reminder of the turmoil Sarajevo endured decades ago. During your free time this afternoon perhaps ramble along Copper Street seeking treasures, or drink from the fountain of Sebilj to secure your return to Sarajevo.
Day 5: Sarajevo – Mostar – Dubrovnik
We journey to the secluded coves and dramatic cliffs of the Dalmatian coast that for centuries have attracted famous artists, actors and aristocrats. En route to Dubrovnik, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, we stop at the magnificent Mostar Bridge. A ‘Local Specialist’ will provide tales of this impressive bridge over the Neretva River and the bridge keepers who watched over it in medieval times – giving Mostar its name. The 16th-century bridge, built by Sinan the great Ottoman architect, was destroyed during the war and has been rebuilt using age-old traditions. Enjoy some free time to explore the town, before continuing to the ancient city of Dubrovnik. This evening, consider joining a private sunset cruise with dinner, enjoying the best views of this enchanting city from the water.

Celebrate centuries of history in the charming town of Kotor, with its Venetian palaces and medieval churches. We return to Dubrovnik this evening and dine tonight at our hotel.
Day 8: Dubrovnik – Split
We pass old fishing villages and modern resorts, arriving in the vibrant city of Split. Enjoy a sightseeing tour with a ‘Local Specialist’ featuring the historic inner city. ‘Dive Into Culture’ and admire the façades of Diocletian’s Palace, which today forms half of the Old Town of Split. Day 2: Zagreb – Ljubljana, Slovenia
Discover the Lower and medieval Upper Town of the capital of Croatia, with a Local Guide, and admire the Austro-Hungarian architecture such as the Parliament, Stone Gate, the Archbishop’s Palace, and more, plus a visit to the majestic Cathedral. Enter Slovenia and arrive in its capital, Ljubljana.

Take a scenic drive through the Istrian Peninsula to Pula, where your Local Guide will show you the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi, dating back to the 1st century. Walk along the seaside promenade and take pictures of the famous Maiden with the Seagull.
Day 6: Opatija – Plitvice – Zadar

Day 1: Trogir – Split – Trogir
We’ll start our tour in Split, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city beside the azure Adriatic. Here, our trail will take us into the white walls of Diocletian’s Palace, a vast fortress filled with centuries of history. We’ll also take in the Grgur Ninski Statue and the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St Domnius before moving on to Trogir – where we’ll embark on a tour of the historic town centre with a local guide. To finish our first day, we’ll take a seat at a local restaurant for an authentic meal (and warm Croatian welcome).

Day 2: Trogir – Krka National Park – Trogir
This morning will see us seeking the crystalline lakes and energetic rivers of Krka National Park before we move on to a hidden treasure: the Bibich Winery. At this small, family-owned establishment we’ll learn the history of winemaking in the region – while being treated to local wines and gourmet tapas. After that, we’ll round off the day with some free time to relax back in Trogir.
Day 3: Trogir – Korcula
Today we’ll say goodbye to Trogir and move on to Split, where we’ll catch the ferry to Korcula – an island that’s reputed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. After checking into our hotel, we’ll get our bearings on a walk through the Old Town. Then: time to hone those culinary skills! An included cookery class and dinner are on the agenda.

Day 4: Korcula
Today you’re free to explore Korcula as you wish. Lounge at a nearby beach, or find a café and get to know the local cuisine – and if you’re in the mood for exploration, you can even hop aboard a taxi boat to the tiny island of Vrnik.
Day 5: Korcula – Peljesac Peninsula – Kotor
After bidding farewell to Korcula, we’ll set sail to the nearby Peljesac Peninsula – a hotspot for winemaking since the days of the Roman Empire. We’ll savour the fruits of this ancient tradition on a tour of a local winery before leaving Croatia for Montenegro. Kotor Bay is a soul-stirring sight – and at the centre lies UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kotor town, seemingly untouched by time.

Day 6: Kotor
First today: a walking tour of Kotor with a local guide. Old Kotor was built like a maze for protective purposes – and it’s very easy to get lost here! When the tour is over, we’ll continue to UNESCO-protected Perast for an insight into the area’s history. Then: time to take to the water! A boat will carry us to Our Lady of the Rocks – a small church on an manmade island. After hearing the legend behind the church, we’ll return to Kotor – where you’ll be free to spend the rest of the afternoon as you please.
Day 7: Kotor – Lovcen National Park – Dubrovnik
Today it’s back on the road (taking the scenic route, of course) as we make our way to the picturesque Lovcen National Park – which boasts incredible views across Montenegro. After stopping for a delicious lunch at a restaurant in the charming village of Njeguši, we’ll move on to Dubrovnik – where the evening will be yours to hunt down more local fare, explore the city’s cobbled streets or simply put your feet up and relax at the hotel.

Day 8: Dubrovnik
Today’s guided tour of Dubrovnik will see us strolling through the Old Town, where we’ll see the likes of the Franciscan Monastery, Sponza Palace, the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Old Port. If the weather is on our side, we’ll take the opportunity to climb the spectacular Mt Srd on a cable car ride. Later on, we’ll come together for one last included dinner to toast the end of our trip.
Day 9: Dubrovnik- Mali Ston – Trsteno -Dubrovnik
Before we say goodbye, there’s still plenty of time to round things off with a visit to the beautiful Trsteno Arboretum (one of the filming locations featured in Game of Thrones). After tucking into lunch at a local oyster farm, we’ll return to Dubrovnik – where the tour will end.

Day 5: Zagreb’s Twin Towns
Journey into Croatia where on arrival in Zagreb, you meet your Local Expert for an exploration of this capital. Donji Grad, the Lower Town, is devoted to business, art and spacious parks, where streets are wide and airy and the layout is designed to give a sense of grandeur. See the Mimara Art Museum in Roosevelt Square and continue to Ban Josip Jelacic Square en route to the cathedral. The medieval Upper Town, is a network of little streets, stretching between the Kaptol and Gradec hills. View the former Presidential Palace, Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Church and the Lotrščak Tower.

Day 7: On to Plitvice National Park
Journey south to visit one of Europe’s great natural wonders. Your Local Expert will lead you through zig-zagging timber footbridges and the crystal blue-green beauty of Plitvice National Park, a scenic wonderland of 16 interconnected lakes, flanked by waterfalls and primeval forest. See Veliki Slap, the highest waterfall in the park for spectacular panoramic views. Spend the evening in your boutique hotel, perfectly located close to the Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Day 8: Along the Dalmatian Coast
The green forests give way to pebble-dashed shores lapped by turquoise waters as you travel to Trogir, a historic town founded by the Greeks 2300 years ago. Admire the cathedral and Renaissance Cipiko Palace, before continuing to the historic port of Split. The Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here, and today it forms the heart of the Old Town of Split. With your Local Expert, explore the 1,700 year-old palace cellars, and learn the story of the infamous emperor. Continue through the labyrinthine streets and arcaded squares to see St. Duje’s- originally Diocletian’s Mausoleum, and the Temple of Jupiter, which today is a baptistery, as well as the Golden Gate. Day 10: Mostar to Sarajevo
In the morning, cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina to Mostar. During your guided walking exploration with your Local Expert, see the famous Stari Most, or Old Bridge, reconstructed after being almost completely destroyed during the Croat–Bosniak War. The cobbled old town stretches on both sides of the bridge and is filled with shops selling Turkish-style souvenirs. Continue to Sarajevo, a town with a turbulent past – in 1914 it was the site of the assassination that sparked World War I and more recently, it endured the longest siege in modern military history. Follow the scenic route to Sarajevo for a unique and rewarding insight into the local way of life as you are invited into a Sarajevan family home for a dinner with drinks. Savour the warm hospitality and authentic cuisine as you hear inspirational stories about their culture and experience the local culture.

Day 11: Sarajevo, the City of Culture
Morning sightseeing with a Local Expert introduces you to the Sarajevo War Tunnels Museum, housing part of the secret tunnel that was the city’s lifeline during the Bosnian war. Talk to one of the survivors, for whom the siege of Sarajevo remains a defining moment in their life. You will also see the Latin Bridge where Austrian Crown Prince, Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated. Continue to Baščaršija, the cobbled old town market where Sarajevo was founded by the Ottomans in the 15th century. In the afternoon, enjoy time at your leisure.
Day 12: Medjugorje and Dubrovnik
In the morning, travel south to stop at the small town of Medjugorje, made famous by six children who claim to have seen visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Cross the border back into Croatia and journey to the walled town of Dubrovnik. On arrival, join your Local Expert to explore the stone-paved streets inside the 16th century bastions of the old town. See Onofrio’s Fountain and the Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries.

Day 13: Dubrovnik – Optional Montenegro Experience
In the morning, why not visit Montenegro? This Optional Experience travels to Kotor, where your camera can capture one of the most beautiful parts of the bay as you learn the history of the area, before returning to Dubrovnik with a short cruise. As the sun begins to set, and should the weather permit, join your fellow travel companions as you sit back and enjoy a relaxing cruise around the fabled bay of Dubrovnik. Admire the most important feature of the city, the mighty city walls rising straight from the cliffs, perfectly-preserved from the Middle Ages, before your cruise moors in the Old Town Harbour. Day 1: Welcome to Zagreb
Transfers to your hotel depart from Zagreb airport at 11:30 and 14:00. Relax and settle in or perhaps head for the romantic chestnut-lined Stross Promenade for your first views over the city. At 17:30, join your Travel Director for a Welcome Dinner with the opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers over a pleasant evening with wine.

Day 2: Zagreb’s Twin Towns
Join your Local Expert to explore the two-tiered capital of Croatia. Drive through the squares of the Lower Town, Donji Grad, designed to give a sense of grandeur. See the Mimara Art Museum in Roosevelt Square and continue to Ban Josip Jelacic Square en route to the cathedral. Board the city’s funicular to the medieval Upper Town, Gornji Grad. It’s a network of little streets, stretching between the Kaptol and Gradec hills. View the former Presidential Palace, Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Church and the Lotrščak Tower. The afternoon is at leisure. Day 3: The Postojna Caves and on to Belle-Epoque Opatija
Venture into Slovenia to visit the world-famous Postojna Caves. Step aboard the cave train and descend into a subterranean world of stunning stalactites, stalagmites, columns and curtains. Marvel at the five-metre tall Brilliant, the cave’s most beautiful stalagmite. Return to Croatia where your hotel is in the Belle Époque seaside-resort town of Opatija, nestled at the foot of Mount Učka. Take time to stroll by the luxurious villas along the tree-lined seafront promenade.

Day 4: Discover the Jewels of Istria

Zig-zagging timber footbridges will lead you through the blue-green beauty of Plitvice Lakes National Park, a scenic wonderland of 16 interconnected lakes, flanked by waterfalls and primeval forest.

Day 6: The Dalmatian Coast to Split
The green forests of Plitvice Lakes National Park give way to pebble-dashed shores lapped by turquoise waters. Walk through the Roman Ruins and market to see the sea organ of Zadar before witnessing a dramatic change in landscape, as you travel through Mediterranean olive groves on your way to Trogir, founded by the Greeks in 3rd Century B.C. Admire the cathedral and Renaissance Čipiko Palace before continuing to the historic port of Split. In the evening, don’t miss the opportunity of dinner in a traditional konoba.

Day 7: Island Hopping to Hvar
The Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here, and today it forms the heart of the Old Town of Split. With your Local Expert, explore the 1,700 year-old palace cellars, and learn the story of the infamous emperor. Continue through the labyrinthine streets and arcaded squares to see St. Duje’s- originally Diocletian’s Mausoleum, and the Temple of Jupiter, which today is a baptistery, as well as the Golden Gate. Continue your venture underground, to explore the cellars. Your island-hopping adventure begins here. Cross the azure waters of the Adriatic to spend two nights on Hvar, famed for being the sunniest island in the country and boasting an interior dotted with lofty mountain peaks and aromatic fields of lavender.

Day 8: Exploring the Island of Hvar

Day 10: Captivating Korčula
In the morning, join a knowledgeable Local Expert for a walking tour of the Old Town. Marvel at spectacular views of the mainland as you stroll towards the main square of Korčula where the Cathedral of St. Marc dominates the ancient skyline. Hear about local legends and history from your Local Expert, stopping by the Town Museum, the Bishop’s Palace with its treasury collection and the Town Hall. Day 11: Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic
Journey to the beautiful southern slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula. Should weather permit, cruise the tranquil waters of the bay of Mali Ston and admire the surrounding untouched natural beauty, as you enjoy a glass of traditional Croatian brandy. Stop at a shellfish farm and meet Tomislav, a local oyster farmer, to learn about the cultivation and harvest of oysters. Enjoy a delicious Sea-to-Table tasting of the fresh shellfish, accompanied with a glass of wine. Continue to the walled town of Dubrovnik, ‘paradise on Earth’ according to George Bernard Shaw.
