Day 1: London – Bruges

Leave the White Cliffs of Dover behind for the golden fields of France and Belgium, travelling to medieval Bruges. Explore its canals, lined with centuries-old gabled houses before joining your Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception including dinner and drinks in beautiful surrounds. We stay overnight in one of Trafalgar’s ‘Stays With Stories’ – a former 17th-century monastery with historical features.

Day 2: Bruges – Amsterdam

Journey through the Dutch countryside to captivating Amsterdam, see the city’s iconic sights from the comfort of a canal boat. This evening, we’ll ‘Connect With Locals’ during a ‘Be My Guest’ dinner at the Pauw family dairy farm.

Day 3: Amsterdam – Rhine Cruise – Heidelberg – Rhineland

We travel to Germany, arriving at Boppard where we board a Rhine cruise past hilltop castles. Admire the magnificent ruined sandstone castle in Heidelberg overlooking the Neckar River en route to your Rhineland hotel where you’ll dine this evening.

Day 4: Rhineland – Black Forest – Rhine Falls – Lucerne

Journey through romantic Black Forest landscapes today – tales of the Brothers Grimm are your constant companion as you continue through southwest Germany to the Swiss border. See the mighty Rhine Falls plunging dramatically near the town of Schaffhausen before arriving in the medieval city of Lucerne, your home for the next two nights.

Day 5: Lucerne

See Lucerne’s poignant Lion Monument this morning. The mournful mortally wounded lion hewn from sandstone provides a poignant reminder of the brave Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending Louis XVI during the French Revolution. Venture to the flower-lined 14th-century wooden Chapel Bridge, explore Old Town’s colourful façades or consider an exhilarating mountain and cruise Optional Experience. This evening we enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 6: Lucerne – Liechtenstein – Innsbruck

Our love affair with the Rhine continues today as we travel to the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein and see its capital, Vaduz, before crossing into Austria. We follow the scenic Arlberg Pass through the Tyrol to Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps where we will see the ornate Golden Roof during an orientation tour. Admire the fascinating crystal installations and browse for precious gifts and souvenirs at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds Store.

Day 7: Innsbruck – Salzburg – Vienna

Salzburg’s extraordinary natural beauty has inspired musical greats and epic films. Join a ‘Local Specialist’ on guided walking tour of the city that gave birth to Mozart, featuring locations that music and movie lovers will remember from the famous film, “The Sound of Music” . This evening, we arrive in the beautiful Baroque city of Vienna, our home for the next two nights.

Day 8: Vienna

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ on a sightseeing tour of one of Europe’s most elegant capitals. View the State Opera House, the City Hall, Parliament, the Imperial Boulevards and the Hofburg, the former imperial palace for the Habsburg dynasty. Spend the evening soaking up the melodic charm of what has become the world’s music capital, celebrating the talents of old masters and modern icons at open-air concerts, palaces and expansive stages.

Day 9: Vienna – Venice

Driving through the scenic Austrian Lake District, we cross the Italian border and journey through the Veneto Plains to the Byzantine city of Venice where we’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 10: Venice

‘Dive Into Culture’ and witness the centuries-old Venetian tradition of glassmaking. Navigate the bustling waterways by private launch to the gateway of Venice, St. Mark’s Square where we tread in the footsteps of Casanova and Marco Polo and admire the sights and sounds of the Queen of the Adriatic. See the ornate Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. This afternoon is yours to get lost in Venice. Explore the labyrinthine calle in search of the best Campari Spritz in town, watch the sun set over the Grand Canal or consider a cruise to the Island of Burano for a delicious meal.

Day 11: Venice – Assisi

Journey south to the mystical town of Assisi, where St. Francis was born and laid to rest. Here you’ll stroll through the city’s streets in the company of a ‘Local Specialist’ and have an opportunity to visit the Basilica of St. Francis. See the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and enjoy dinner at your hotel tonight.

Day 12: Assisi – Pompeii – Sorrento

Pass the site of the bloody World War II battle of Monte Cassino en route to the Bay of Naples and the lost city of Pompeii where you’ll join a ‘Local Specialist’ who will share the story of this remarkable ancient Roman settlement that was buried in ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We continue to the coast and the beautiful seaside resort of Sorrento where we will stay the night and dine in our hotel.

Day 13: Sorrento – Isle of Capri – Rome

Cross the enchanting blue water of the Bay of Naples to the Isle of Capri and ascend to Capri by funicular railway where you will join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a guided walking tour of the town. Spend a leisurely afternoon soaking up la dolce vita in the piazza before sailing back to the mainland. This evening we arrive in Rome, the Eternal City, where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 14: Rome – Vatican Experience

Delve into the treasures of the Vatican City with a ‘Local Specialist’ who will take you on a sightseeing tour through St. Peter’s Basilica to see Michelangelo’s Pietà. Cross the Tiber into Ancient Rome to see the mighty Colosseum and enjoy views of Circus Maximus. Then ‘Dive Into Culture’ and gain priority access to the Vatican Museums for a guided tour. Admire Michelangelo’s magnificent frescoed ceiling when it is less crowded, then enjoy an exclusive after hour’s al fresco dinner against the backdrop of St Peter’s.

Day 15: Rome – Florence

Journey north to Florence where you’ll join a ‘Local Specialist’ for an included walking tour to the Piazza della Signoria, the political hub of this once free republic that became a recognised centre for art, architecture and culture. See the beautiful marble Duomo and Baptistery with its famous bronze doors, and the picturesque Ponte Vecchio which straddles the Arno. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure admiring the work of great masters in the Uffizi Gallery, climbing the stone steps to Piazzale Michelangelo for iconic views, or relaxing in the Boboli Gardens.

Day 16: Florence – Pisa – Monaco – French Riviera

We drive to the city of Pisa and its Square of Miracles to see the famous Leaning Tower which bears this city’s name. From Italy to the sun-kissed landscapes of the French Riviera, we stop in the sophisticated Principality of Monaco before continuing to the French Riviera, our home for the next two nights. Enjoy an orientation drive along the scenic Promenade des Anglais, which for centuries has attracted sun-worshipping aristocrats to its shores, and see Place Massena before spending the evening at leisure.

Day 17: French Riviera – St. Paul De Vence Excursion

Rub shoulders with artists and actors in the medieval hilltop town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence before enjoying an afternoon at leisure in the French Riviera to indulge in the laid-back seaside atmosphere. Wander along the scenic promenade and embrace café culture on the tranquil shores of the Mediterranean, stroll through the chic city streets shopping at the French Riviera’s fashionable boutiques or relax on the beach watching the sun set. Or perhaps join an Optional Experience to see spectacular views of one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe and pay an aromatic visit to the historic Fragonard perfumery to learn how French fragrances are crafted before trying some specialities from the region at a local restaurant.

Day 18: French Riviera – Avignon – Beaune

We travel north to the Papal city of Avignon, an important pilgrimage site. We stop for views of the magnificent Papal Palace and famous Pont d’Avignon before arriving in the capital of the Burgundy wine-producing region, Beaune. Explore the ancient walls and Old Town, see its characteristic geometrically coloured tiled roofs.

Day 19: Beaune – Paris

We travel north through the vineyards of Burgundy to Paris, our home for the next two nights. The City of Lights shines brightly as you explore its grand boulevards, amble along the Seine or embrace the pageantry of a traditional Parisian cabaret.

Day 20: Paris

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ soaking up the sights and sounds of one of the world’s most romantic cities. See the Champs Élysées and the Eiffel Tower. View Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Spend a free afternoon exploring the city before celebrating an unforgettable experience at a Farewell Dinner with wine in a local restaurant.

Day 21: Paris – London

Say au revoir to Paris as you travel to the coast. Sail from Calais to Dover watching the famous White Cliffs approach as you cross the English Channel. Arrive later in London and bid farewell to your fellow travellers at the end of a memorable holiday.

Day 1: Arrive In Paris, France

Welcome to Paris! At 5:30 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner at one of Paris’ lively restaurants, followed by an orientation drive.

Hotel: Marriott Paris Rive Gauche, 2 nights

Day 2: Paris

Sightseeing with a Local Guide features Paris’ main sights like the Arc de Triomphe, Opera, Madeleine, Louvre, Champs-Elysees, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Visit the impressive Courtyard of Les Invalides, a complex of buildings, originally built as a home and hospital for war veterans, which houses various museums as well as the Dome Church, burial place of Napoleon. To make the most of your stay, optional excursions are available.

Day 3: Paris – Versailles – Beaune

A short drive brings you to Versailles, where a guided visit to the impressive Palace And Gardens has been included. Continue along the Route du Soleil and take in views of châteaux before entering the Burgundy vineyards. Arrive in Beaune, wine capital of the region, and visit the famous Hotel-Dieu, which was originally built as a hospital for the poor. Time to stroll around in this quaint town. See Notre Dame Basilica, and enjoy a Wine Tasting at the renowned Marche aux Vins wine cellar.

Day 4: Beaune – Pont Du Gard – Avignon – Aix-En-Provence

Leave Burgundy and enter Provence. At Pont du Gard, marvel at the largest remaining Roman aqueduct in France, a monumental feat of engineering completed in 19 BC. Avignon, a walled town on the Rhone River, became the residence of the popes in the 14th century. During your walking tour, take pictures of the magnificent Palace of the Popes and the famous bridge, and browse through the colourful shops that sell traditional products made in Provence, like cloth, honey, herbs, and nougat candy. Next is the pleasant town of Aix-en-Provence.

Day 5: Aix-En-Provence

Aix-en-Provence is one of France’s most elegant cities; it was the birthplace of painter Cezanne, and has always attracted artists from around the world. Join your Tour Director for a pleasant walk to the Market Square. Wander through the maze of small streets and along shaded Cours Mirabeau. Balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 6: Aix-En-Provence – St. Paul De Vence – Nice – Monte Carlo, Monaco

Visit the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence, one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera. Marvel at the many art galleries and little shops, and try out a glass of the local pastis. Then, turn to the glittering Mediterranean Sea and arrive in the tiny Principality of Monaco, built on a rocky peninsula and famed for its nightlife. Later, join an optional excursion to see the palace and royal church of Monaco town, have dinner, and try your luck at the Monte Carlo casino.

Day 7: Monte Carlo – Excursion To Eze, France

Enjoy a morning at leisure to dabble in the blue Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon, a scenic drive with spectacular views brings you to Eze, where a unique highlight awaits: visit the famous Fragonard perfume factory and Create Your Own Fragrance, followed by a farewell dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate the success of your trip.

Day 8: Depart Monte Carlo

Your holiday ends with breakfast this morning (the nearest airport is Nice).

Day 1: Paris – Reims – Troyes

After meeting the group amidst the hustle and bustle of Paris, we’ll begin our journey. Our first stop? The picturesque Champagne region, where we’ll be treated to a delicious champagne tasting at a vineyard that used to belong to premium champagne house Veuve Clicquot. Then: we’ll tour the impressive Reims Cathedral before moving on to Troyes. Tonight, we’ll celebrate our first night together with a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Troyes – Bayel – Troyes

On the agenda today: a walking tour of Troyes with a local guide. After taking the opportunity to visit the bustling market, we’ll move on to Bayel – where we’ve an appointment to keep at the Crystal Museum. Here, we’ll learn about the history of glass and crystal – from antiquity until the present day – as well as being treated to a glass blowing demonstration. Back in Troyes, the evening will be yours to spend as you please.

Day 3: Troyes – Chablis – Beaune

Day three of the trip will see us sampling more world-class local produce, as we swap fizz for the dry white wines of Chablis. After that, the afternoon will bring us to Beaune – where you’ll have plenty of time to explore the city’s famous Gothic architecture before we reconvene for a sumptuous included dinner.

Day 4: Beaune

Today we’ll spend some more time in the beating heart of the Burgundy wine region, with a visit to the Hospices de Beaune. Originally founded as a hospital for the poor by the Chancellor of Burgundy back in 1443, this unique building is now a museum – and an exceptional example of fifteenth-century French architecture. And then? The rest of the day is yours for the taking!

Day 5: Beaune – Chambéry

After breakfast, we’ll leave Beaune behind and set our sights on Chambéry – but first, we’ll stop off at the family-owned Château de la Greffière for a delicious picnic (filled with local produce, of course). After taking in the marvellous views of the surrounding vineyards over lunch, we’ll be lucky enough to take a closer look at them on a guided tour – with an included wine tasting session to boot.

Day 6: Chambéry – Annecy – Chambéry

We’ll check off a tour highlight on day six: the postcard-perfect alpine town of Annecy. Known for its Old Town, canals that rival those of Venice, the magnificent Lake Annecy, candy-coloured houses and cobbled streets, this lovely town is a must-visit while passing through southeastern France. Also on the cards today: a visit to a fromagerie, where we’ll learn everything there is to know about the local cheese ripening process – a tradition that’s been passed down from generation to generation. After visiting the cheese cellars, we’ll have the chance to taste a sample or two.

Day 7: Chambéry – Chabrillan

We’ll have the chance to sample more tasty local produce today at a Chartreuse cellar and distillery. Did you know? The famous French liqueur has been produced by Carthusian Monks since 1737, and is infused with an array of plants, herbs and flowers. Later on, we’ll set a course for the picturesque Vercors region – an area famous for its spectacularly rugged plateaux and towering mountains.

Day 8: Chabrillan – Sisteron – Forcalquier

Today alpine slopes will give way to rugged hills and wildflower meadows as we travel to Sisteron – where we’ll stop to take in the views from the Citadel. Our final stop of the day will be Forcalquier, where we’ll round off the evening in style: with a farewell dinner to remember.

Day 9: Forcalquier – Entrevaux – Nice

The last day of the tour will take us deeper into exquisite Provençal countryside as we press on to Entrevaux – one of the most beautiful villages in France. Then, it’s onwards to the elite resort and shining capital of the French Riviera: Nice. After all, there’s no better place to end our journey than alongside the clear waters of the Côte d’Azur!
