Day 2: London  

A full day to savour our rich program of optional activities: take a panoramic tour of London’s landmarks, visit the Tower of London, or choose an excursion to Windsor Castle. Tonight, how about dinner followed by a leisurely cruise on the Thames River?

Day 3: London – Brussels, Belgium

Transfer to the railway station and board the Eurostar Train to Brussels. Here, switch to your comfortable motorcoach for an orientation drive of the Belgian capital.

Day 4: Brussels – Rhine Cruise, Germany –  Frankfurt Area

Journey into Germany to the shores of the mighty Rhine to enjoy a scenic Cruise. Then, on to the Frankfurt area for an overnight.

Day 5: Frankfurt Area – Romantic Road – Innsbruck Area, Austria

Today’s highlight is a drive along the Romantic Road, through towns and villages with medieval towered gates and battlements, squares of half-timbered houses, and richly decorated fountains. Spend some time in the centre of Rothenburg before heading to the Innsbruck area for an overnight.

Day 6: Innsbruck Area – Brenner Pass – Venice Area, Italy

Take in the breathtaking scenery of the Alps while crossing the Europa Bridge and Brenner Pass. Arrive in Venice, where a Boat Ride along the Giudecca Canal to Piazza San Marco allows you to admire the palazzos and maze of streets. Time at leisure to soak up the magical atmosphere of this unique city. At a Glassblowing Workshop, experience this Venetian art.

Day 7: Venice Area – Verona – Lucerne Area, Switzerland

Stop in fascinating Verona for a stroll in the old city. Cross the Swiss border and enjoy the idyllic views of Canton Ticino, then on to the breathtaking beauty of Lake Lucerne.

Day 8: Lucerne Area – Dijon, France

Your visit this morning focuses on the Old Town of Lucerne. Also, there’s time for an optional excursion to Mount Stanserhorn. in the afternoon, journey into France for an overnight in the charming town of Dijon.

Day 9: Dijon – Paris

Leave Dijon and travel on the autoroute to Paris to discover many of the best-known Parisian sites on the included guided sightseeing tour.

European Sampler

As the name implies, this European Sampler tour is a sample of some of the major highlights of Europe. You’ll spend two nights in Amsterdam, Lucerne, and Paris, as well as one night each in Heidelberg and Dijon. In Amsterdam, your guided sightseeing is via a canal cruise, the only way to experience Amsterdam! In both Heidelberg and Lucerne, you’ll discover the must-see sights on a walking tour, including Heidelberg’s Old Town and Lucerne’s Bourbaki Panorama, a circular painting dating to 1881 and depicting memorable scenes from the Franco-Prussian War. And in Beaune you’ll have a Burgundy wine tasting and a visit to the impressive Hôtel Dieu. Day 1: Arrive In Amsterdam, Holland

Welcome to Amsterdam! At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 2: Amsterdam

Meet your Local Guide and hear about the fascinating history of the 700-year-old capital during a leisurely CANAL CRUISE. Admire the patrician mansions and the gabled facades; the “Golden Bend,” the most prestigious part of the Herengracht and a monument to the Golden Age; the Stopera, Amsterdam’s proud concert hall; the Hermitage, a branch museum of the Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg; and much more. Also visit a major DIAMOND centre. For those who wish to experience Dutch life in the countryside, an optional excursion is available to picture-book Volendam, a fishing village at the former Zuiderzee, including visits to a working windmill, a clogmaker, a cheese farm, plus dinner.

Day 3: Amsterdam – Rhineland, Germany

Pass the Dutch region near Arnhem, best known as the locale of A Bridge Too Far, and enter Germany. Today’s highlight is a romantic Rhine Cruise. Sit back, relax, and enjoy views of centuries-old castles, cozy towns, and vineyards. Continue to Heidelberg for a pleasant walk through the Old town to the Marktplatz (market square), from where you can take pictures of the famous red-walled ruins of Heidelberg Castle, followed by dinner with beer at Kulturbrauerei Heidelberg restaurant.

Day 4: Heidelberg – Black Forest – Rhine Falls, Switzerland – Lucerne

Enter the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of the Black Forest, famous for cuckoo clocks. Be welcomed by a local woodcarver, and see samples of his work during a Woodcarving Demonstration. Then, enjoy Kaffee und Schwarzwaldkuchen (coffee and the traditional homemade Black Forest Cake). On the Swiss border, take pictures of the thundering Rhine Falls before continuing to Lucerne. Start your walking tour with a visit to the impressive Bourbaki Panorama, Edouard Castres’ circular painting dating back to 1881, depicting scenes of the Franco- Prussian War. Also admire Thorwaldsen’s Lion Monument, dedicated to the fallen Swiss Guards who protected the Royal House of France during the French Revolution. See the ornate patrician houses lining the cobblestone streets of the walled Old Town, and cross the famous covered Chapel Bridge to the Jesuit Church.

Day 5: Lucerne

A whole day at leisure in this picturesque town with lots of things to do: shop for Swiss watches, knives, and chocolate. Choose from a selection of optional excursions to Mount Pilatus, the “Guard of Lucerne,” a lake cruise, or a folklore dinner party with a chance to yodel or blow an alphorn.

Day 6: Lucerne – Beaune, France – Dijon

Leave the Alps behind you and enter the scenic French countryside on your way to the vineyards of Burgundy. Stop in the pretty town of Beaune, where a Wine Tasting awaits at the renowned Marche aux Vins wine cellar. Also visit the Hotel Dieu, originally founded in 1443 as a hospital for the poor, before continuing to Dijon for your overnight stay.

Day 7: Dijon – Versailles – Paris

Enjoy views of castles on your way to Versailles, where a guided visit of the 17th-century Palace and Gardens has been included. This former hunting chateau, built by Louis XIII, was transformed into a magnificent palace by the Sun King, Louis XIV, and housed the French kings until the French Revolution. Arrive in Paris, where an optional excursion is available to try out local specialties in one of its lively restaurants, followed by a drive for a first look at the French capital.

Discover the world’s heart of chic and style with a Local Guide. Admire its major sites: the Opera, Arc de Triomphe, and Champs-Elysees. Day 1: Arrive In Paris, France

Welcome to Paris! At 5:30 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions, and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant and an orientation drive for a first impression of this magnificent city.

Day 2: Paris

In the morning, an optional excursion is available to the impressive Palace and Garden of Versailles, built by the “Sun King,” Louis XIV. Guided sightseeing features the Opera, Madeleine, Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Visit the impressive Courtyard of Les Invalides, a complex of buildings, originally built as a home and hospital for war veterans, which houses various museums as well as the Dome Church, burial place of Napoleon. This evening, why not join an optional cabaret show?

Day 3: Paris – Caen –  Excursion To Normandy Beaches

Arrive in Caen and visit the fascinating Memorial Museum For Peace with its great exhibits and audiovisual show about the Battle of Normandy. Continue to the Normandy Beaches, scene of the Allied Forces’ landing on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Stop in Arromanches and see the Mulberry Harbor. Then, drive to Omaha Beach for a picture stop and visit the American Cemetery and memorial.

Day 4: Caen – Mont St. Michel – St. Malo

Visit the famous Abbey of Mont St. Michel, with a history going back to the 8th century and spectacularly perched on a rocky isle. Look forward to another highlight: in the corsair city of Saint-Malo ride the Little Train, the best way to fully discover the historic walled town with Saint Vincent’s Cathedral and St. Peter’s Gate. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Gulf of Saint-Malo.

Day 5: St. Malo – Esse – Angers – Loire Valley

Drive through Brittany and stop in Esse to visit La Roche-Auxfees, a dolmen dating back to 3500-3000 BC. On your way to the Loire Valley, enjoy an orientation of the beautiful town of Angers. This evening, you may wish to sample traditional cuisine at a local restaurant.

Day 6: Loire Valley – Chenonceau Castle – Bordeaux

Visit the 16th-century castle of Catherine de Medici, lovely Chenonceau, a fairytale castle with a moat and towers. Continue to Bordeaux, and join your Tour Director for a walking tour through this elegant city on the Garonne River. Tonight, savour dinner at the wellknown Brasserie Bordelaise restaurant.

Day 7: Bordeaux – Excursion to St. Emilion

local wines for which the Bordeaux area is famous. Balance of the day is at leisure with the possibility to join an optional excursion to the charming village of Saint Emilion.

Day 8: Bordeaux – Arcachon – Dune Du Pilat – Biarritz

Stop in the seaside town of Arcachon, famous for oyster harvesting, and marvel at the Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe. Arrive in Biarritz, an ancient fishing village. Time to relax and enjoy the beach or browse through the little shops. Your Tour Director will have suggestions how to make the most of your stay.

Day 9: Biarritz Lourdes – Carcassonne

In Lourdes, one of the world’s most famous pilgrimage sites, visit the Grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858. Next is the beautifully preserved, medieval, walled town of Carcassonne.

Day 10: Carcassonne – Aix-En-Provence

This morning, enjoy a leisurely walk by the ancient battlements before continuing to Aix-en-Provence, one of France’s most elegant cities, and birthplace of painter Cezanne, that has always attracted artists from all over the world. Join your Tour Director for a walking tour through the centre of the town and wander through the maze of small streets and along shaded Cours Mirabeau.

Day 11: Aix-En-Provence – Grasse – French Riviera

Arrive in Grasse, and visit the famous Fragonard Usine Historique, where an expert will give a lecture about PERFUME-MAKING. Then, enjoy spectacular views as you drive along the Mediterranean coast and the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

Day 12: French Riviera

A full day at leisure on the enchanting Cote d’Azur gives you a chance to visit the beach or browse through the elegant shops. Optional excursions are available to the famous artist town of St. Paul de Vence and to Monte Carlo to try your luck at the Casino!

Day 13: French Riviera – Orange Lyon

Follow in the footsteps of the Romans and arrive in Orange, Visit the Roman Theatre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture in France. Next is Lyon, the third largest city of France.

Day 14: Lyon – Dijon

Sit back and relax during a Private Cruise on the Rhone and Saone Rivers with a Local Guide, who will explain the sights. Time to walk through Old Lyon to discover the Traboules, secret, hidden passageways winding their way through buildings and along staircases, with a history going back to the 4th century. Continue to Dijon, capital of Burgundy and famous for mustard. During your orientation, hear about the dukes who ruled over the area, admire the architecture, and learn about toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs).

Day 1: Welcome to Paris

Airport transfers depart from Charles de Gaulle Airport for your hotel at 08:30, 11:00 and 13:30. Relax and settle in, or start exploring this great capital, before joining your Travel Director and fellow guests at 17:30 for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Journey through the Champagne region, famous for its magnificent core of medieval buildings, appropriately shaped like a champagne cork. Join an expert vintner for a taste of champagne and introduction to how the famous bubbly is made. Continue to the Burgundy region, once a powerful duchy and synonymous with fine wine before ending the day at your hotel in Dijon.

Day 3: Free Time in Dijon

Enjoy the Burgundy capital of Dijon. Its many handsome buildings recall the time when the Dukes of Burgundy were more powerful than the Kings of France. Perhaps take the opportunity to visit the wine capital of Burgundy, Beaune? In the evening, don’t miss the chance of an optional Burgundy wine tasting and traditional dinner in the Premier Cru village of Fixin.

Day 4: Chamonix

Travel towards the Mâconnais and Beaujolais before turning east into the Alps. A scenic symphony awaits you as you ascend into the high Alps and climb towards Mont Blanc, Western Europe’s highest mountain. Your destination is the fashionable ski resort of Chamonix. In the evening you may choose to try a local pierrade at a local trendy eatery in a traditional chalet. This Optional Experience provides the chance to try a typical regional meal, cooked on a table barbecue using on a hot stone.

Glorious mountain scenery will be yours to enjoy as you travel along a spectacular route, used by the Emperor Napoleon when he returned from his first exile to try to take the throne of France once more. Continue to the French Riviera to reach the elegant resort of Nice. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore as you wish. In the evening, why not walk through old town Nice, ending in Cours Saleya where dinner is at your leisure at one of the many lovely bistros?

Wake up ready to rub shoulders with the jet-set on the glamorous Côte d’Azur. Unlock the secrets of the French perfume industry with a visit to a perfumery, where fragrance experts waft exclusive scents from stoppered bottles. Then enjoy a drive along part of the Grand Prix circuit in Monaco and walk with your Travel Director through the old town to see the Royal Palace and yacht-filled harbour. Your exploration continues as you visit inside Monaco Cathedral, housing the tomb of Princess Grace. The rest of the day is set aside for you to enjoy the French Riviera at your own pace. Perhaps join an Optional Experience to visit to the medieval village of Eze and its hill-top Botanical Gardens for a spectacular view of the coastline?

Day 8: Picturesque Provence

Visit the medieval village of Saint-Paul de Vence, perched high above the Riviera beaches. A walk through its winding streets reveals elegant fountains, vine-covered stone walls and views of mountains and sea. Continue to Aix-en-Provence to see the sumptuous mansions lining the Cours Mirabeau and on to your hotel.

Stop in Avignon to enjoy views of the remaining arches of the Pont d’Avignon and the fortified Papal Palace. Enjoy a wonderful introduction to the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, tasting the difference for yourself as you learn about the grape varieties. Continue your journey to Pont du Gard to see the greatest of Roman remains. This afternoon, enjoy a lesson in the French sport of pétanque. Steady your hand and get ready to test your new found skills as you take part in a game. After, reward yourself and fellow friends with a glass of pastis, a French apéritif.

Day 10: Carcassonne and to Albi

Head to beautiful Arles and trace the history of the town home to Vincent Van Gogh. Cross the fertile Languedoc region, before journeying inland to the fortified town of Carcassonne. Travellers are often amazed at their first sight of this medieval gem, known for its fortress – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a complete set of ramparts and a medieval keep. Travel on to Albi, the birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec. During your orientation with your Travel Director, marvel at iconic sites including the views of Toulouse Lautrec Museum and the famous awe-inspiring cathedral, before spending the remainder of the day at leisure. This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

Enjoy a full day at leisure to relax and soak up the atmosphere of Albi.

Stop in Cahors, famous for its Black Wine, and see the Pont Valentré. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the open air market – full of fresh, seasonal produce and local delicacies, it’s an experience to delight all of the senses. Travel to Rocamadour and enjoy free time to explore this medieval town perched on a cliff side above the Alzou River and known as a resting place for pilgrims on their way to Spain. Learn about the aromatic ‘black diamonds’ as you enjoy a presentation and a walk the through truffle valley led by a hunting dog. After your search, savour a tasting of a variety of truffles and truffle pastes, paired with a glass of wine. Continue to the beautiful town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, its medieval core blessed with fine historic golden limestone houses.

Start the day with a morning drive into the stunning Valley of the Dordogne to visit Lascaux II where the world-famous prehistoric cave paintings have been faithfully reproduced. Travel onwards to immerse yourself in the beautiful city of Paris where on arrival you are free to explore this fascinating city as you wish. As evening descends, the City of Light lives up to its name as the monuments, buildings and bridges are lit up in all their glory.

During your time in Paris your Travel Director introduces you to all the sights including Notre Dame Cathedral and the facades of the Louvre. See the Place de la Concorde and travel down the Champs Elysees to Napolean’s Arc de Triomphe. After dark, the City of Light really lives up to its name when the monuments, buildings and bridges are lit up in all their glory. Explore Paris with Insight Choice. Choose between shopping at Galeries Lafayette and a guided tour around the Right Bank led by the Local Expert. Alternatively, join a local foodie to explore small shops and sample local treats and delicacies. You are in for a memorable evening starting with a delicious Highlight Dinner at the historic restaurant La Coupole, serving delicious French cuisine and wine.

Follow the River Seine to Rouen, capital of Normandy, to admire its ancient cathedral – a masterpiece of the Gothic style and the subject of a series of paintings by Claude Monet. Wander through the narrow streets beneath the Great Clock to the Old Market Square. Here, a superb modern church commemorates the burning of Joan of Arc on this very spot in 1431. Continue to the charming fishing town of Honfleur and to your luxurious hotel located in the chic seaside resort of Deauville.

Following the route of the Rangers and visiting the bunkers and the Rangers Memorial at Pointe du Hoc. Journey through Bocage country for an exploration of the hilltop abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel with your Local Expert. The abbey stands on an island and is reached by a causeway across the shining sands. Behind the outer ring of defences huddles the small town – it’s one street containing shops, cafes and hotels. Continue along the Emerald Coast to stunning Saint-Malo, situated on the Rance Estuary and one of the most charming places in France. A Local Expert will take you on an exploration of the City of the Corsairs. Walk through the maze of streets of Intra Muros, the walled city, to the cathedral, the burial place of Jacques Cartier and other celebrated voyagers. At your leisure, you can wander around the ramparts of the thick city walls, offering fantastic views over the old town and the bay. By night, the town’s medieval maze of winding streets is abuzz with quaint bars and restaurants. From here, return to the French capital, don’t miss the chance to experience one of the world-famous cabaret shows.
