Day 3: Budapest – Bratislava, Slovakia – Vienna, Austria
Journey northwest and cross the border into neighbouring Slovakia. Stop in Bratislava, its intriguing capital on the banks of the Danube, to explore the medieval Old Town. Continue west and enter Austria, arriving in magical Vienna.

Days 4: Vienna
Enjoy two full days in one of Europe’s most beloved capitals. Join the included city sightseeing tour for a great introduction to the major sights: the State Opera, Parliament, the ornate Rathaus (Town Hall), and views of the Hofburg imperial Palace from Heroes’ Square. You’ll have plenty time to discover Vienna on your own, or choose from our wonderful selection of optional excursions.

From Krems, situated along the banks of the Danube and surrounded by hills and vineyards, marvel at the stunning scenery as you embark your ship for a delightful Danube River Cruise through the legendary Wachau Valley to Spitz. You might enjoy an optional excursion to visit the magnificent Benedictine Melk Abbey. Upon arrival in Salzburg, see some of the highlights of the historical centre, including the Domplatz, the Festival Hall with the former Horse Trough, and, of course, the charming Getreidegasse, where Mozart was born!

Day 1: Depart from London by Eurostar to Amsterdam
At 07:00, meet your Travel Director and transfer to London’s St. Pancras Station to board the high-speed Eurostar for a rail journey via the revolutionary Channel Tunnel. Once in Amsterdam, join your Travel Director in the evening for a Welcome Reception. Get to know your fellow guests during a cruise, along some of the many quaint, tree-lined canals. Admire the elegant merchant houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, their facades are a reflection of when trade flourished during Amsterdam’s Golden Age. Relax as you pass stunning gables, beautiful churches and the iconic Magere Brug, better known as the Skinny Bridge. Disembark and venture to Humphrey’s Restaurant for your Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: Würzburg
Relax with a scenic drive along the Rhine Valley to Würzburg. See the mighty Marienburg Fortress – the immense baroque palace of the Prince Bishops and one of the most important landmarks in Germany. In the morning venture to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the most well-preserved town on the Romantic Road. In the evening, perhaps take a river cruise through the heart of the city?

Day 4: Prague, City of a Hundred Spires
Join a Local Expert in the morning for guided sightseeing of one of the most beautiful and intact historic centres in Europe. Start with the 1,000-year-old Prague Castle, to admire the stained glass of St. Vitus Cathedral and enjoy amazing views over the Old Town. Walk on the famous Charles Bridge and through the Old Town. An artisan baker shows you how the Trdelník or traditional Czech chimney cakes are made, and enjoy a tasting. Finish in the Old Town Square where the mechanical antics of the Astronomical Clock’s glockenspiel delights onlookers each hour. Day 5: Through Bohemia to Budapest
Start the day with a journey through the beautiful forested countryside of Bohemia. Journey through Slovakia and travel on to Hungary, following the River Danube to Budapest. Stand atop Gellért Hill where the colossal Liberty Statue stands in front of the Citadella watching over the city. Marvel at extensive panoramic views as you look out over the famous river dividing Buda and Pest – the two sides linked by the mighty Chain Bridge and the newer, elegant Elizabeth Bridge. In the evening, join a Local Expert to enjoy a scenic dinner cruise and take in the city’s nighttime beauty as you float along the Danube.

Day 6: The flavours of Budapest
Stroll through the alleys of the Old Town of Buda and admire sweeping views from the Fisherman’s Bastion with a Local Expert. Drive along the beautiful Andrassy Avenue to Heroes’ Square. Then, enjoy free time to browse the boutiques of Vaci Street. Continue your travels, past the eagle overlooking the town of Tatabanya, to the Austrian border and through pleasant farming country to the imperial capital of Vienna.

Day 7: Vienna and the Habsburgs
In the morning, there is the option to join a private tour of Maria Theresa’s Schonbrunn Palace & formal gardens. Later, get your camera ready for a drive around the famous Ring Road. This grand boulevard, built alongside the lines of the old city walls, showcases many of the capitol’s architectural masterpieces, including the Opera House, magnificent Hofburg Imperial Residence and Parliament. Then join your Local Expert for a walk through Innere Stadt, the first district and historic core of Vienna. Explore Vienna with Insight Choice. Choose between a visit to a traditional Viennese Café to enjoy local specialities of coffee and sachertorte. Alternatively, listen to the musical masterpiece of Mozart as you take to the floor in a Viennese Waltz dance lesson.
Day 8: Along the shores of Lake Wörthersee to Venice
This day’s route takes you past quiet villages, through Styria’s forested mountains and into the Carinthian Lake District. Continue past Europe’s warmest lake, the Wörthersee, to cross into Italy near Tarvisio. Then follow mountain valleys and cascading streams down to the Veneto Plain en route to the unique city of Venice. This evening is truly a special experience, starting with a private boat to arrive at your central hotel. Stroll past the entrance doors of the famous Opera House to La Fenice restaurant for a magical Celebration Dinner. Indulge in traditional Venetian dishes that are enriched with inspiration from seasonal produce. Finish in true Venetian style – savour a cocktail at Café Florian at twilight whilst being serenaded by an ensemble of talented musicians, and admire the peace of St. Mark’s Square long after the day-trippers have gone to their mainland hotels. Return to your hotel along the Grand Canal.

Day 1: Arrive Vienna
Tune into the enchanting musical heritage of Vienna, your launch pad to a grand adventure through the highlights of Eastern Europe. After checking in, join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a sightseeing walking tour of Old Town Vienna, revealing insights into the Habsburg dynasty, once one of the most influential royal houses of Europe. Admire the Hofburg Palace, Imperial Boulevards and the beloved St. Stephen’s Cathedral, with its colourful tiled roof. This evening, we join our Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception to kick off our exciting holiday.

Day 2: Vienna – Lake Bled
We cross the Loibl Pass in the Karawanken Mountains and into the lush green hills of Slovenia. Arrive later at Lake Bled, an exquisite natural retreat set against the backdrop of forests and mountains. During your free time, you could consider taking a boat trip on its crystal clear waters to admire the castle, which clings dramatically to a cliff rising up from the lake’s edge. This evening, we dine at our hotel.

Day 3: Lake Bled
Spend the day at your leisure, up the romantic atmosphere of this Alpine lake setting. Perhaps take a boat ride along the lake’s tranquil waters, or consider joining an Optional Experience to the extensive maze of underground caves at Postojna.
Day 4: Lake Bled – Ljubljana – Zagreb
We leave the emerald waters of Bled behind and arrive in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, where we will join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a sightseeing tour to see its Opera House, Cathedral, National Museum, Three Bridges Square and Castle. We cross into Croatia and travel to its capital, Zagreb – our home for the next two nights. You’ll have a free evening to spend as you wish. Consider heading to Tkalčićeva Street to indulge in the flavours of traditional fruit brandy.

Day 5: Zagreb
Explore a tale of two hilltop settlements and Zagreb’s scenic cityscape, to this day lit by gas lamps in the Upper Town. Join a ‘Local Specialist’ who will share the landmarks of the city’s Lower and Upper Town, including the Gothic Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Opera House and St. Mark’s Church, with its exquisitely coloured roof. Spend the rest of the day on your own, paying homage to the patron saint of Zagreb at its Stone Gate, or enjoying the city views from Strossmartre.
Day 6: Zagreb – Lake Balaton – Budapest
Crossing the border into Hungary, we enjoy a photo stop on the shores of Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe and affectionately known by locals as the ‘Hungarian Sea’. We continue to the romantic capital of Budapest – our home for the next two nights. Perhaps, sail along the Danube on a scenic river cruise, enjoy an evening of Hungarian wine tasting or relax in the healing waters of the Szecheyni Spa Bath as the sun sets.

Day 7: Budapest
Today, we join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a walking tour of the Castle district to admire picture-perfect views of the Danube and Fisherman’s Bastion with its towers representing the seven Magyar tribes who formed the Hungarian nation. See the imposing Parliament and the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe. Later we meet the Schieszl family and ‘Connect With Locals’ over a ‘Be My Guest’ dinner.
Day 8: Budapest – Slovakia – Kraków
The exquisite natural landscape of Slovakia provides a scenic backdrop for our journey to Poland, past the foothills of the Tatra Mountains. We arrive in the enchanting city of Kraków. Consider an evening of lively Polish entertainment with dinner, or perhaps visit a traditional Polish Wódka Bar.

Day 9: Kraków
A leisurely walk through the beautiful streets of Kraków this morning with our ‘Local Specialist’ will include such highlights as the Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill, recognised as the most historically and culturally significant site in Poland. We continue through the Old Town with a visit to the Mariacki Church and view of the Cloth Hall. Spend the afternoon exploring the city on your own or consider visiting a traditional milk bar. Enjoy a slice of Polish Sernik Babci in the Old Town Square or join an Optional Experience to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, where underground chambers are hewn out of rock salt. This evening, we dine at our hotel.
Day 10: Kraków – Auschwitz – Czestochowa – Warsaw
Our journey this morning takes us to the concentration camp at Auschwitz, a poignant reminder of the horrors perpetrated during the Holocaust. Travelling to Jasna Góra Monastery, we ‘Dive Into Culture’ and rub shoulders with Catholic pilgrims, who have journeyed to the famous shrine for centuries to see the iconic Black Madonna of Częstochowa. This evening, we arrive in the elegant Polish capital of Warsaw, where we will dine tonight at our hotel.

Day 11: Warsaw
Connect with the youthful energy of Warsaw, a city that has triumphed over the tragedy of war and the shackles of communism. This morning, we join a ‘Local Specialist’ visiting the Old Town, which the Nazis destroyed to retaliate against the Warsaw Uprising. You’ll also see the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, immortalised in the Roman Polanski film – The Pianist. Spend the rest of the day exploring the sights on your own, or celebrate the talents of Chopin during a private recital of Chopin’s works.
Day 12: Warsaw – Berlin
Journey across Poland’s patchwork countryside along the Autostrada Wolnośki (Motorway of Freedom) which was first initiated by Nazi Germany to connect Berlin with Poland and left unfinished for decades after World War II. Continue west into Germany and arrive in Berlin, a capital city with an enviable youthful verve and charisma. Here you’ll enjoy an evening at leisure to explore the city your way.

Day 13: Berlin
Ascend an icon of reunification this morning as you witness spectacular panoramic views of the city from the Berlin TV Tower. Then join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a sightseeing tour through the city’s great landmarks, including the Neoclassical Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden Boulevard and the Reichstag Building, lovingly restored after it fell into disuse after World War II. Spend the afternoon people-watching on Friederichstrasse with an Fassbrause or join an Optional Experience to discover Berlin’s turbulent past.
Day 14: Berlin – Dresden – Prague
Travel through the Spreewald Forest to Dresden – its iconic domes and spires almost entirely rebuilt after the Allied Forces left their deep scars on the city during World War II. Hear about its restoration during your orientation tour as you stroll through its streets to see the Semper Opera, Zwinger Palace and fully reconstructed Frauenkirche. We leave Germany behind and travel to the Czech Republic, arriving later in glorious Prague, straddling the mighty Vltava. Spend your evening savouring hearty Czech flavours during a Regional Dinner at a local restaurant.

Explore exquisite Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque façades as you ramble through the ancient streets of Prague with your ‘Local Specialist’ who will share insights into the city’s centuries-old history. Visit the Cathedral of St. Vitus, then enjoy the rest of the day free to explore or relax. We cross the fertile Thessaly region and see the battle site at Thermopylae, where the heroic Leonidas and brave Spartans battled against the invading Persians. Today, time to see some of the highlights of Veliko Tarnovo, located on the Yantra River. During the Middle Ages, it was Bulgaria’s capital and it still retains some of its most attractive medieval features. Visit nearby Arbanassi, world famous for its house design, a cross between a dwelling and a fortress. The village is known as an architectural and historic reserve and was at one time the summer residence of Bulgarian kings. One of the highlights of the visit is the Church Of The Nativity, built in 1637. Carry on north to Rousse and cross the Danube to reach Bucharest.

Day 11: Brasov – Sighisoara – Cluj-Napoca
Stop in Sighisoara, a medieval town with 11 towers within the city walls that surround cobblestone streets, ancient houses, and churches-one of Romania’s prettiest towns. Legend has it that it is also the birthplace of the notorious Vlad (Dracula). Continue to Cluj-Napoca, the film capital of Romania.

Day 1: Welcome to Bucharest
Transfers depart Henri Coandă International Airport at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 for your hotel, which is one of the city’s most sophisticated and prestigious landmarks. At 18:00, join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for your Welcome Dinner served with wine.

Day 2: From Bucharest to Brașov
Join a Local Expert for a sightseeing to view University Square and the former communist headquarters. Visit the immense Parliament Palace, one of the largest buildings in the world. Travel along the Prahova Valley to the elegant mountain resort of Sinaia to visit Peleș Castle, the former summer residence of Romania’s first royal family. Led by a local historian, admire the lavish rooms filled with art, armour and tapestries. Continue through the Carpathian Mountains to the charming medieval city of Brașov, founded in 1211 by the Teutonic Knights. This evening you are treated to a sumptuous dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Transylvania: Castles, Myths and Legends
With your Local Expert, take a walk around Town Hall Square, lined with beautiful red-roofed houses and dominated by the Black Church. Then, picture a horse and carriage careering up a wet mountainous road, thunder booming and lightning illuminating the medieval fortress guarding the Transylvanian border. Visit Bran Castle, said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s novel and discover if this popular image of Dracula’s castle is true or like the vampire story itself, only a myth.
Day 4: Veliko Tarnovo
Cross the Danube into Bulgaria and continue to Veliko Tarnovo, the City of the Tsars, where houses cling to the cliffs of the River Yantra, making it one of the country’s most beautiful towns. In the evening, enjoy a Highlight Dinner of local specialties and wine, followed by an authentic folklore show.

Day 5: To Sofia
In the morning, see the Monument of the Assens, before meeting your Local Expert to climb up to the ruined Tsarevets Fortress, a reminder of the town’s former imperial status. Enjoy the stunning views over the old Bulgarian capital and the Yantra Valley. Arbanasi is one of Bulgaria’s most beautiful villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The frescoed churches and fortified dwellings offer a unique insight into the former wealth and spiritual commitment of the settlement. Visit a traditional 17th century merchant’s house and the Church of the Holy Nativity. Cross the Balkan Mountains to Bulgaria’s modern day capital of Sofia. On arrival, sightseeing with a Local Expert takes you to St. Sofia Church, across the square from the golden domed St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the archaeological complex, dominated by the church of St. George Rotonda.

Day 9: Kotor and Dubrovnik
Journey through the spectacular scenery of Montenegro to the Old Town of Kotor, known as Stari Grad. Located beside a beautiful bay near the limestone cliffs of Mt. Continue over the Croatian border to the fortified port of Dubrovnik where you are at leisure to explore the Old Town, bustling with street artists, cafes and restaurants.

Join a Local Expert for a morning of exploring the stone-paved streets within the 16th century bastions. Day 11: Dubrovnik, Paradise on Earth

As the sun starts to set, maybe take a relaxing cruise to admire the city and its incredible walls from the water.
Day 12: Mostar and Sarajevo
Journey to Mostar. With your Local Expert, see the famous Stari Most, the Old Bridge, reconstructed after being almost completely destroyed during the war. Explore the cobbled Old Town stretching on both sides of the bridge and filled with shops selling souvenirs. Continue your travels following the scenic route to Sarajevo for a unique and rewarding insight into the local way of life as you are invited into a Sarajevan family home for a dinner with drinks. Savour the authentic cuisine and traditional Bosnian coffee as you hear inspirational stories.

Day 13: Sarajevo, City of Culture
Start the morning with sightseeing. Visit the Sarajevo War Tunnel Museum and talk to one of the survivors, for whom the Siege of Sarajevo remains a defining moment in his life. Day 14: The Serbian Capital of Belgrade
Trace your way along the Drina river, that lies on the border of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Take in beautiful landscapes of lush, green mountains that create magical forest canyons, winding your way through deep valleys as you make your way to Belgrade.

Day 16: Across to Budapest

Continue on through the vast wilderness of the Puszta, where once cowboys rustled up goulash under the stars. Your destination will be Budapest on the Danube.
