Day 1: Arrive in London, England

Check into your hotel. In the afternoon, you may want to start exploring the lively British capital. Uniformed hosts at the hotel are available to help you make the most of your stay.

Day 2: London

A full day to savor our rich program of optional activities: take a panoramic tour of London’s landmarks, visit the Tower of London, or choose an excursion to Windsor Castle. Tonight, we recommend our optional Taste of London excursion with dinner, followed by a guided illumination cruise on the Thames River.

Day 3: London – Paris, France

Board the Eurostar Train to Paris with your Tour Director. Spend two nights in Paris.

Day 4: Paris

Paris is a world-class city with more familiar landmarks than almost any other city in the world. This morning, see these sites during the included city tour with a Local Guide. Sign up for the optional excursions available to complete your Paris experience.

Day 5: Paris – Lucerne Area, Switzerland

Fascinating, ever-changing scenery greets you today. Enjoy views of Fontainebleau Forest, the wine-growing area of Burgundy, prosperous farms, and tidy, half-timbered villages as you head through the alpine heart of Switzerland to the picture-book Lucerne area.

Day 6: Lucerne Area

One of Switzerland’s finest cities, Lucerne is nestled amid its snowcapped Alps, surrounded by its lake, and graced by the clear mountain waters of the Reuss River. The orientation includes the Lion Monument, erected in memory of the 800 Swiss Guards who defended Louis XVi and his wife. Also admire the famous wooden Chapel Bridge with its splendid frescoes. A selection of optional activities completes the day: a cable-car ride to the 10,000-foot summit of Mount Titlis; a cruise on the fjord-like lake; and, of course, time to shop for an authentic Swiss watch.

Day 7: Lucerne Area – Verona, Italy – Venice Area

More wonderful alpine scenery awaits as you drive into the mountain ranges that surround the massive St. Gotthard Pass. Once through its great tunnel, start your scenic descent into the warmer and sunnier ambiance of Canton Ticino, then cross into italy and drive through the Lombardy plains to Romeo and Juliet’s Verona, known as “Little Rome” for its splendid arena still standing in its former glory. Overnight in the Venice area.

Day 8: Venice Area

Venice is more like a marvellous film set than a real-life city, with crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and busy little piazzas. Your orientation starts with a Boat Ride to St. Mark’s Square and is followed by a chance to watch Venetian Glassblowers fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. A range of optional excursions is available.

Day 9: Venice Area – Florence – Montecatini

Travel south across the Apennines into the gentle and hilly countryside of Tuscany. Enjoy a guided walk through Florence to discover its Renaissance treasures, then continue to Montecatini.

Day 10: Montecatini – Pisa – Rome

This morning in Pisa, hop on a mini-train to see the famed Square Of Miracles and to view the Leaning Tower. Then, journey south to Rome. Next, head into the very heart of the Chianti vineyards, where Chianti Classico wines are produced. Stop in Greve for Wine Tasting at a local wine estate. Day 5: Montecatini – Excursion To Florence

This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled the entire day. Wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty. Day 2: Montecatini – Excursion To Vinci

This morning, head out into the lush, rolling landscape of the Montalbano hills. Pass terraced grape vineyards, olive groves, and chestnut trees on your way to the quaint village of Vinci, birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. Here, learn all about the Renaissance master at the Museum dedicated to his life and many areas of interest from painting, sculpting, and inventing, to anatomy, music, and cartography! Later, visit a Butchery in a local village, followed by a generous tasting of cold cuts.

Day 3: Montecatini – Excursion to the Chianti Valley

Cradled between the provinces of Florence and Siena, the Chianti Valley is the heart of Old Tuscany, and has been hailed for its exceptional wines since the 13th century. Your journey today takes you to Greve, with time to visit the village and to enjoy lunch at a charming wine shop. Complete the day with the visit of a Historic Tuscan Estate known for its Chianti wine production.

Day 4: Montecatini

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Montecatini. Maybe go for a walk in the Parco delle Terme with its tall shady trees. Most of the afternoon is dedicated to the italian cooking lesson at a rustic farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside. Once you arrive at the farm, enjoy a welcome drink, explore the orchard to pick some fresh ingredients, learn about italy’s most famous delicacies, and then roll up your sleeves for a fun, hands-on Cooking Experience. This evening, relax with your travelling companions and savour the delectable dinner you prepared-maybe your team will win the master chef prize!

Day 5: Montecatini – Excursion to Lucca

Visit Lucca, a stunning showcase of medieval architecture and layer upon layer of rich history and culture. Marvel at the beautiful art and tapestry collections at the baroque Palazzo Mansi National Museum, then take a guided walking tour around the Old Town with its fine, intact Renaissance-era wall, cobblestone streets, and cafe-lined piazzas. A lively Cafe-Crawl snack brunch is included, followed by a main course at a local restaurant. Then, your Local Guide will introduce you to the stunning ornamental gardens and grand arched ceilings of Palazzo Pfanner.

Day 6: Montecatini – Excursion to Bolgheri

Travel through the vineyarddotted countryside and along cypress-lined Viale dei Cipressi for your grand entrance into enchanting Bolgheri. With its red-brick castle and atmospheric Old Town, it’s not hard to imagine that Bolgheri jumped right off the pages of a storybook. There’s time here to visit one of the Wine Cellars that produce Bolgheri’s celebrated Super Tuscan reds. First created in the 1980s, many wine experts believe these now rival French Bordeaux. Later, stop at nearby Castagneto Carducci, known for its splendid panoramic views of the Etruscan Coast. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and the chance to sample the local Liqueur.

Day 7: Montecatini

This morning is yours to do as you please. You could choose to explore more of the city on your own, to relax and shop for souvenirs, or to join an exciting optional excursion. This afternoon is dedicated to a Baking Class at your hotel, focusing on the creation of cakes and desserts.

Day 1: Arrive Rome

Ciao Roma! ‘The Eternal City’ opens its doors for an unforgettable At Leisure jaunt through Tuscany and two millennia of culture, history and fiery Italian verve. Spend the afternoon exploring the city before meeting your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception. Embark on an orientation drive past Rome’s iconic and unexpected highlights, including views of the Colosseum and Circus Maximus, once the site of exhilarating chariot races which attracted thousands of enthusiastic spectators.

Day 2: Rome Sightseeing – Montecatini

Our journey through Rome begins in the centre of Christendom, where we join a ‘Local Specialist’ on an included sightseeing tour to visit St. Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s much-admired Pietà. This afternoon, we enjoy a leisurely drive through the scenic Tuscan hills to the thermal spa resort of Montecatini, the largest and most famous spa town in Italy and your home for the next six nights.

Day 3: Florence Excursion

Your ‘Local Specialist’ will reveal the history of Renaissance Florence during your walking tour. View the magnificent Duomo and visit Piazza della Signoria. In your free time, consider visiting the Ponte Vecchio bridge, one of the city’s most famous landmarks and lined with goldsmiths and jewellers. This is a legacy of the 16th-century decree which mandated that only jewellers and goldsmiths be allowed to ply their trade on the bridge. Later, learn about the quality and workmanship of two of this city’s historic industries at demonstrations of Florentine leathercraft and 18-carat gold.

Day 4: Montecatini at Leisure or Optional Experience to Cinque Terre

Relax in the soothing waters of Montecatini Thermal Spa on your day at leisure or join an Optional Experience to Cinque Terre, whose quaint pastel-hued villages cling to the rugged Ligurian cliffs.

Day 5: Pisa and Vinci Excursion

Journey to Pisa where we join a ‘Local Specialist’ to view the famous Leaning Tower, the finely sculpted marble Cathedral and the ornate Baptistery, said to be the largest in Italy. We continue through Tuscany, arriving in Vinci where we’ll ‘Dive Into Culture’ at Museo Leonardiano and gain a deeper understanding of the life of this talented master. Admire Leonardo da Vinci’s machines and models, his sketches and handwritten notes, as well as interactive exhibits during your visit. Tonight ‘Connect With Locals’ at the Agriturismo Borgo Vigna Vecchia where you’ll enjoy an exclusive ‘Be My Guest’ dinner surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.

Day 6: Siena and San Gimignano Excursion

Saunter through the beautifully preserved medieval city of Siena to see the 13th-century marble Cathedral and the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo which hosts the biannual Palio horse race. We venture to the walled medieval town of San Gimignano, renowned for its towers. Enjoy some free time strolling through its narrow lanes and shopping for locally-produced delicacies and hand-painted Tuscan pottery – the alluring aromas of pecorino and cured meats can be found around every turn.

Day 7: Tuscan Lifestyle Experience

Feast your eyes on the vibrant colours and busy stalls heaving with fresh produce at a local food market where you will join a ‘Local Specialist’ professional chef for a tasty introduction to Tuscan cuisine. Learn how to cook like only an Italian mamma can, selecting your fresh produce from the market and preparing lunch which you will enjoy with a delicious glass of local wine. The tastes of Tuscany still lingering after an unforgettable lunch, we return to our hotel in the Tuscan hills for the night.

Day 8: Montecatini – Rome – Vatican Experience

Departing Tuscany, we travel south to Rome. This evening, we ‘Dive Into Culture’ and enjoy a Farewell Dinner amidst the stunning Roman and Ancient Greek artistry showcased in Museo Gregoriano Profano. We’ll have access to the museum before dinner and join a ‘Local Specialist’ later for a guided evening tour of the Vatican Museums, including a visit to Michelangelo’s magnificent frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel when it is less crowded.

Day 9: Depart Rome

Day 6: Genoa – Milan – Lake Maggiore

Today’s included guided tour is an excellent introduction to Genoa. A maze of squares and alleys, the city grew around the port, a natural inlet, and boasts the largest medieval historical centre in Europe. Next, head north into the plains of Lombardy, and stop in Milan to marvel at its magnificent gothic Duomo. Then, continue to Baveno on Lake Maggiore.

Day 11: Assisi Area Pompeii – Sorrento Area

Travel to Pompeii, where time stopped for the rich, aristocratic town with the terrible eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. On the included guided visit, see the remains of luxurious villas, temples, theatre, and forum. Carry on to Sorrento, set on a plateau above the waters of the Bay of Naples. Wander the winding streets lined with shops and stalls, and sit with a glass of wine, absorbing the easy-going lifestyle of this charming resort.
