Day 1: London – Bruges

Leave the White Cliffs of Dover behind for the golden fields of France and Belgium, travelling to medieval Bruges. Explore its canals, lined with centuries-old gabled houses before joining your Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception including dinner and drinks in beautiful surrounds. We stay overnight in one of Trafalgar’s ‘Stays With Stories’ – a former 17th-century monastery with historical features.

Day 2: Bruges – Amsterdam

Journey through the Dutch countryside to captivating Amsterdam, see the city’s iconic sights from the comfort of a canal boat. This evening, we’ll ‘Connect With Locals’ during a ‘Be My Guest’ dinner at the Pauw family dairy farm.

Day 3: Amsterdam – Rhine Cruise – Heidelberg – Rhineland

We travel to Germany, arriving at Boppard where we board a Rhine cruise past hilltop castles. Admire the magnificent ruined sandstone castle in Heidelberg overlooking the Neckar River en route to your Rhineland hotel where you’ll dine this evening.

Day 4: Rhineland – Black Forest – Rhine Falls – Lucerne

Journey through romantic Black Forest landscapes today – tales of the Brothers Grimm are your constant companion as you continue through southwest Germany to the Swiss border. See the mighty Rhine Falls plunging dramatically near the town of Schaffhausen before arriving in the medieval city of Lucerne, your home for the next two nights.

Day 5: Lucerne

See Lucerne’s poignant Lion Monument this morning. The mournful mortally wounded lion hewn from sandstone provides a poignant reminder of the brave Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending Louis XVI during the French Revolution. Day 6: Lucerne – Liechtenstein – Innsbruck

Our love affair with the Rhine continues today as we travel to the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein and see its capital, Vaduz, before crossing into Austria. We follow the scenic Arlberg Pass through the Tyrol to Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps where we will see the ornate Golden Roof during an orientation tour. Admire the fascinating crystal installations and browse for precious gifts and souvenirs at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds Store.

Day 7: Innsbruck – Salzburg – Vienna

Salzburg’s extraordinary natural beauty has inspired musical greats and epic films. This evening, we arrive in the beautiful Baroque city of Vienna, our home for the next two nights.

Driving through the scenic Austrian Lake District, we cross the Italian border and journey through the Veneto Plains to the Byzantine city of Venice where we’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 10: Venice

‘Dive Into Culture’ and witness the centuries-old Venetian tradition of glassmaking. Navigate the bustling waterways by private launch to the gateway of Venice, St. Mark’s Square where we tread in the footsteps of Casanova and Marco Polo and admire the sights and sounds of the Queen of the Adriatic. See the ornate Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. This afternoon is yours to get lost in Venice. Day 11: Venice – Assisi

Journey south to the mystical town of Assisi, where St. Francis was born and laid to rest. Here you’ll stroll through the city’s streets in the company of a ‘Local Specialist’ and have an opportunity to visit the Basilica of St. Francis. See the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and enjoy dinner at your hotel tonight.

Day 12: Assisi – Pompeii – Sorrento

Pass the site of the bloody World War II battle of Monte Cassino en route to the Bay of Naples and the lost city of Pompeii where you’ll join a ‘Local Specialist’ who will share the story of this remarkable ancient Roman settlement that was buried in ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. We continue to the coast and the beautiful seaside resort of Sorrento where we will stay the night and dine in our hotel.

Day 13: Sorrento – Isle of Capri – Rome

Cross the enchanting blue water of the Bay of Naples to the Isle of Capri and ascend to Capri by funicular railway where you will join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a guided walking tour of the town. Spend a leisurely afternoon soaking up la dolce vita in the piazza before sailing back to the mainland. This evening we arrive in Rome, the Eternal City, where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 14: Rome – Vatican Experience

Delve into the treasures of the Vatican City with a ‘Local Specialist’ who will take you on a sightseeing tour through St. Peter’s Basilica to see Michelangelo’s Pietà. Cross the Tiber into Ancient Rome to see the mighty Colosseum and enjoy views of Circus Maximus. Then ‘Dive Into Culture’ and gain priority access to the Vatican Museums for a guided tour. Admire Michelangelo’s magnificent frescoed ceiling when it is less crowded, then enjoy an exclusive after hour’s al fresco dinner against the backdrop of St Peter’s.

Day 15: Rome – Florence

Journey north to Florence where you’ll join a ‘Local Specialist’ for an included walking tour to the Piazza della Signoria, the political hub of this once free republic that became a recognised centre for art, architecture and culture. See the beautiful marble Duomo and Baptistery with its famous bronze doors, and the picturesque Ponte Vecchio which straddles the Arno. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure admiring the work of great masters in the Uffizi Gallery, climbing the stone steps to Piazzale Michelangelo for iconic views, or relaxing in the Boboli Gardens.

Day 16: Florence – Pisa – Monaco – French Riviera

We drive to the city of Pisa and its Square of Miracles to see the famous Leaning Tower which bears this city’s name. From Italy to the sun-kissed landscapes of the French Riviera, we stop in the sophisticated Principality of Monaco before continuing to the French Riviera, our home for the next two nights. Enjoy an orientation drive along the scenic Promenade des Anglais, which for centuries has attracted sun-worshipping aristocrats to its shores, and see Place Massena before spending the evening at leisure.

Day 17: French Riviera – St. Paul De Vence Excursion

Rub shoulders with artists and actors in the medieval hilltop town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence before enjoying an afternoon at leisure in the French Riviera to indulge in the laid-back seaside atmosphere. Wander along the scenic promenade and embrace café culture on the tranquil shores of the Mediterranean, stroll through the chic city streets shopping at the French Riviera’s fashionable boutiques or relax on the beach watching the sun set. Explore the ancient walls and Old Town, see its characteristic geometrically coloured tiled roofs.

Day 19: Beaune – Paris

We travel north through the vineyards of Burgundy to Paris, our home for the next two nights. The City of Lights shines brightly as you explore its grand boulevards, amble along the Seine or embrace the pageantry of a traditional Parisian cabaret.

Day 1: London – Paris

Leaving the bright city lights of London behind us, we cross the English Channel by ferry from Dover to Calais, travelling across the World War I battlefields w here so many brave souls lost their lives. We catch a glimpse of the Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge before arriving in Paris. Later, we join our Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception including dinner and drinks and an evening drive to embrace the energy of this vibrant city.

Day 2: Paris

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ for a drive along the Champs Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe and view the Eiffel Tower. View Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Join a ‘Local Specialist’ today and delight in the whimsical world of Gaudí, whose characteristic Art Nouveau architecture is dotted throughout the city. Tread in the footsteps of showbiz royalty, savouring a full day at leisure in Cannes. Day 11: Cannes – Monaco – Pisa – Florence

Our home for the next two nights is one of Trafalgar’s ‘Stays With Stories’ – the Grand Hotel Europe, featuring a scenic lakeside and alpine backdrop.

Day 23: Lucerne

Day 25: Rhineland – Cologne – Amsterdam

Admire the tall twin Gothic spires of the Cologne Cathedral this morning, before crossing into the Netherlands and on to Amsterdam where we spend the next two nights. Sit under the leafy canopy at Leidseplein indulging in Dutch beer and kroketten, hire a bike and hit the city’s tree-lined streets or bask in the warm glow and gezelligheid of one of the city’s renowned bruin cafés.

Day 26: Amsterdam

Enjoy an orientation of Amsterdam and spend the rest of the day exploring the city on foot, by bike or tram. Consider delving into the tragic story of Anne Frank, admire the works of Van Gogh or people-watch in Vondelpark. Day 2: London

Enjoy free time for independent activities. Take a panoramic tour of London’s famous landmarks, visit the Tower of London, or choose an excursion to Windsor Castle. Day 3: London – Paris, France

Transfer to the railway station and board the Eurostar Train to Paris with your Tour Director. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 3: Palermo – Erice – Trapani – Marsala

Two Sicilian treats are on the agenda today: First, visit the medieval hilltop town of Erice, reached by Cable Car. Situated about 2,500 feet above sea level, it immediately impresses with its defensive walls and castle, affording breathtaking views over the Gulf of Trapani and Egadi islands. On clear days, see all the way to the African coast. Next, visit enchanting Trapani with a Local Guide. Here, learn all about the Renaissance master at the Museum dedicated to his life and many areas of interest from painting, sculpting, and inventing, to anatomy, music, and cartography! Later, visit a Butchery in a local village, followed by a generous tasting of cold cuts.

Day 3: Montecatini – Excursion to the Chianti Valley

Cradled between the provinces of Florence and Siena, the Chianti Valley is the heart of Old Tuscany, and has been hailed for its exceptional wines since the 13th century. Your journey today takes you to Greve, with time to visit the village and to enjoy lunch at a charming wine shop. Complete the day with the visit of a Historic Tuscan Estate known for its Chianti wine production.

Day 4: Montecatini

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Montecatini. Maybe go for a walk in the Parco delle Terme with its tall shady trees. Most of the afternoon is dedicated to the italian cooking lesson at a rustic farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside. Once you arrive at the farm, enjoy a welcome drink, explore the orchard to pick some fresh ingredients, learn about italy’s most famous delicacies, and then roll up your sleeves for a fun, hands-on Cooking Experience. Day 5: Montecatini – Excursion to Lucca

Visit Lucca, a stunning showcase of medieval architecture and layer upon layer of rich history and culture. Marvel at the beautiful art and tapestry collections at the baroque Palazzo Mansi National Museum, then take a guided walking tour around the Old Town with its fine, intact Renaissance-era wall, cobblestone streets, and cafe-lined piazzas. A lively Cafe-Crawl snack brunch is included, followed by a main course at a local restaurant. Then, your Local Guide will introduce you to the stunning ornamental gardens and grand arched ceilings of Palazzo Pfanner.

Day 6: Montecatini – Excursion to Bolgheri

Travel through the vineyarddotted countryside and along cypress-lined Viale dei Cipressi for your grand entrance into enchanting Bolgheri. With its red-brick castle and atmospheric Old Town, it’s not hard to imagine that Bolgheri jumped right off the pages of a storybook. There’s time here to visit one of the Wine Cellars that produce Bolgheri’s celebrated Super Tuscan reds. First created in the 1980s, many wine experts believe these now rival French Bordeaux. Day 3: Rome – Naples – Capri

Naples is the capital of espresso coffee and pizza, among many other delicacies. This morning you’ll have the opportunity to see the main, highlights, including a stop to visit the St. Clair Monastery Cloister with a Local Guide. After the sightseeing tour, enjoy Pizza Lunch in a restaurant. Later, take a short ferry ride to Capri, the legendary island of glitz and glamor.

Day 4: Capri

Enjoy free time to relax, discover this spectacular island on your own. On the optional island tour, focus on all the main sights and enjoy a light street food lunch of local specialties, as well as a limoncello tasting session. Day 5: Capri – Sorrento Area

Take the Ferry to Sorrento. Few places in the world match the very special charm of Sorrento. This picturesque resort overlooking the Bay of Naples boasts a marvellous climate, beautiful views, trendy shops and boutiques, interesting museums, and a vibrant nightlife. This morning, spend some time learning about Gelato. There will be a demonstration on how gelato and sorbet are prepared, and some hints on how to make it at home. You will, of course, have the opportunity to taste some of the many flavours available in the shop. This evening, we suggest an optional dinner at a local farm, featuring dishes prepared with traditional ingredients.

Day 2: Rome Sightseeing – Montecatini

Your ‘Local Specialist’ will reveal the history of Renaissance Florence during your walking tour. View the magnificent Duomo and visit Piazza della Signoria. This is a legacy of the 16th-century decree which mandated that only jewellers and goldsmiths be allowed to ply their trade on the bridge. Later, learn about the quality and workmanship of two of this city’s historic industries at demonstrations of Florentine leathercraft and 18-carat gold.

Day 5: Pisa and Vinci Excursion

Journey to Pisa where we join a ‘Local Specialist’ to view the famous Leaning Tower, the finely sculpted marble Cathedral and the ornate Baptistery, said to be the largest in Italy. We continue through Tuscany, arriving in Vinci where we’ll ‘Dive Into Culture’ at Museo Leonardiano and gain a deeper understanding of the life of this talented master. Tonight ‘Connect With Locals’ at the Agriturismo Borgo Vigna Vecchia where you’ll enjoy an exclusive ‘Be My Guest’ dinner surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.

Day 6: Siena and San Gimignano Excursion

Saunter through the beautifully preserved medieval city of Siena to see the 13th-century marble Cathedral and the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo which hosts the biannual Palio horse race. We venture to the walled medieval town of San Gimignano, renowned for its towers. Enjoy some free time strolling through its narrow lanes and shopping for locally-produced delicacies and hand-painted Tuscan pottery – the alluring aromas of pecorino and cured meats can be found around every turn.

Day 7: Tuscan Lifestyle Experience

Feast your eyes on the vibrant colours and busy stalls heaving with fresh produce at a local food market where you will join a ‘Local Specialist’ professional chef for a tasty introduction to Tuscan cuisine. Learn how to cook like only an Italian mamma can, selecting your fresh produce from the market and preparing lunch which you will enjoy with a delicious glass of local wine. Day 8: Lake Maggiore – Verona – Venice Area

Travel across the Po River plain, and stop in the romantic city of Verona for some time at leisure, marvelling at the Roman Arena, shopping, or tasting some of the excellent local wines. Continue to the Venice area.

Day 9: Venice

Venice is more like a romantic film set than a real-life city, with its crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. The included orientation starts with a Boat Ride to St. Mark’s Square, and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian Glassblowers fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you.

Day 10: Venice Area – Ravenna – Assisi – Assisi Area

Enjoy an interesting drive southward right across the Po Delta to Ravenna, renowned for its treasure of Byzantine mosaics, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Continue to Assisi, enclosed by ramparts and little changed since the Middle Ages. This is the town of the deeply mystical and poetic St. Francis. See the Basilica Of St. Francis with its famous frescoes by Giotto, with history brought to life by a Local Guide. Overnight in the beautiful area of Assisi, in the heart of Umbria.

Day 11: Assisi Area Pompeii – Sorrento Area

Travel to Pompeii, where time stopped for the rich, aristocratic town with the terrible eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. On the included guided visit, see the remains of luxurious villas, temples, theatre, and forum. Carry on to Sorrento, set on a plateau above the waters of the Bay of Naples. Wander the winding streets lined with shops and stalls, and sit with a glass of wine, absorbing the easy-going lifestyle of this charming resort.

Day 12: Sorrento Area – Boat trip to Capri

Enjoy a day trip to the legendary island, surrounded by a rocky coastline where the crashing sea has formed awe-inspiring caves. The town with its pretty piazzetta, maze of streets, fashionable boutiques, and cozy restaurants, is a mecca for the jet set. Explore on your own or take an optional island tour.

Day 13: Neapolitan Riviera – Rome

Today, enjoy time at leisure or visit Positano on our exciting optional excursion, before returning to Rome.
