Day 1: Arrive in London, England

Check into your hotel. In the afternoon, you may want to start exploring the lively British capital. Uniformed hosts at the hotel are available to help you make the most of your stay.

Day 2: London

A full day to savor our rich program of optional activities: take a panoramic tour of London’s landmarks, visit the Tower of London, or choose an excursion to Windsor Castle. Tonight, we recommend our optional Taste of London excursion with dinner, followed by a guided illumination cruise on the Thames River.

Day 3: London – Paris, France

Board the Eurostar Train to Paris with your Tour Director. Spend two nights in Paris.

Day 4: Paris

Paris is a world-class city with more familiar landmarks than almost any other city in the world. This morning, see these sites during the included city tour with a Local Guide. Sign up for the optional excursions available to complete your Paris experience.

Day 5: Paris – Lucerne Area, Switzerland

Fascinating, ever-changing scenery greets you today. Enjoy views of Fontainebleau Forest, the wine-growing area of Burgundy, prosperous farms, and tidy, half-timbered villages as you head through the alpine heart of Switzerland to the picture-book Lucerne area.

Day 6: Lucerne Area

One of Switzerland’s finest cities, Lucerne is nestled amid its snowcapped Alps, surrounded by its lake, and graced by the clear mountain waters of the Reuss River. The orientation includes the Lion Monument, erected in memory of the 800 Swiss Guards who defended Louis XVi and his wife. Also admire the famous wooden Chapel Bridge with its splendid frescoes. A selection of optional activities completes the day: a cable-car ride to the 10,000-foot summit of Mount Titlis; a cruise on the fjord-like lake; and, of course, time to shop for an authentic Swiss watch.

Day 7: Lucerne Area – Verona, Italy – Venice Area

More wonderful alpine scenery awaits as you drive into the mountain ranges that surround the massive St. Gotthard Pass. Once through its great tunnel, start your scenic descent into the warmer and sunnier ambiance of Canton Ticino, then cross into italy and drive through the Lombardy plains to Romeo and Juliet’s Verona, known as “Little Rome” for its splendid arena still standing in its former glory. Overnight in the Venice area.

Day 8: Venice Area

Venice is more like a marvellous film set than a real-life city, with crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and busy little piazzas. Your orientation starts with a Boat Ride to St. Mark’s Square and is followed by a chance to watch Venetian Glassblowers fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. A range of optional excursions is available.

Day 9: Venice Area – Florence – Montecatini

Travel south across the Apennines into the gentle and hilly countryside of Tuscany. Enjoy a guided walk through Florence to discover its Renaissance treasures, then continue to Montecatini.

Day 10: Montecatini – Pisa – Rome

This morning in Pisa, hop on a mini-train to see the famed Square Of Miracles and to view the Leaning Tower. Then, journey south to Rome. Tonight, consider an optional excursion to discover the city by night-a floodlit spectacular of shimmering fountains, magnificent churches, and piazzas-followed by dinner.

Day 11: Rome

Watch how leather is embossed with gold, and enjoy free time to shop. in the afternoon, drive north across the Po River and spend two nights in the Venice area.

Venice is known worldwide for its carnival, its film festival, and its incredible location on the water. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you.

Day 6: Venice Area – Cortina – Innsbruck Area, Austria

Leave the plains of the Veneto region behind and drive northward to spot the spectacular peaks of the Dolomites. Stop awhile in Cortina to enjoy the grand scenery. Later, cross over the Europa Bridge and Brenner Pass into Austria to reach innsbruck in time to see the famous golden roof, emblem of the city.

Day 7: Innsbruck Area – Liechtenstein – Lucerne, Switzerland

Drive through the valleys and villages of the mountainous Tyrol to the Arlberg Tunnel, descending into Switzerland. Stop briefly in Vaduz, Liechtenstein’s capital. Absorb the majestic alpine landscapes and glimpses of Lake Walen on the way to Lucerne.

Day 6: Venice Area – Assisi – Rome

An interesting drive southward, cutting across the Po Delta, then through the gentle Umbrian hills to medieval Assisi, where St. Francis was born in 1182. Visit the world-famous BASILICA with its beautiful frescoes by Giotto, then head for Rome.

Day 7: Rome

Arrive in Florence. This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled for a whole day. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and Loggia dei Lanzi. To top it all, see Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificently carved East Door of the Baptistry, known as the “Gate of Paradise.” Journey northward through the Tuscan hills and across the Apennines to the shores of romantic Lake Como.

Day 10: Lake Como – Lugano, Switzerland – Lucerne Area

Leave beautiful Lake Como and cross the border into Switzerland for a stop in the italian-speaking town of Lugano. Continue north and, once through Gotthard Tunnel, see more magnificent alpine scenery as you descend to the shores of Lake Lucerne.

Day 11: Lucerne Area – Interlaken – Lausanne Area

Spend some time in beautiful Lucerne. Later, stop in idyllic interlaken and follow the shoreline of Lake Thun. A few more miles to Lausanne, overlooking Lake Geneva.

Day 12: Lausanne Area – Beaune, France – Paris

Enjoy vistas of famous vineyards on the way to Beaune. Visit the medieval Burgundian town, known all over the world for its wine production. Take the autoroute to Paris.

Day 1: London – Paris

Bid farewell to England watching the mystical White Cliffs of Dover disappearing in the distance as you travel by ferry across to France in the company of your Travel Director and fellow travellers. Pass the tragic World War I battlefields of northern France bound for Paris, where you’ll join your Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception, including dinner and drinks, followed by an orientation drive through the dazzling ‘City of Lights’.

Day 2: Paris

Explore the iconic and unexpected sights of Paris with your ‘Local Specialist’, which will take you past the grand Champs Élysées and Arc de Triomphe, where we pay tribute to the brave men and women who fought for France. View Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Spend the rest of the afternoon on your very own journey of discovery. Stroll along the Seine admiring the work of artists who have set up their easels next to the river, shop in the Marais district or find a cosy bistro with great views of the city. This evening, consider indulging in the colourful nightlife of Paris and attend a famous cabaret show.

Day 3: Paris – Beaune – Geneva

A patchwork of colours provide a beautiful backdrop for our journey through France’s rolling countryside to the Burgundy wine region. We visit the region’s capital, Beaune, renowned for its 15th-century Hôtel-Dieu, to admire its colourful geometrically patterned Burgundy tiled roof. Next, we cross the border to Geneva where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 4: Geneva

Enjoy some free time this morning before continuing along the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva, arriving in the celebrated Chexbres wine region where we will ‘Connect With Locals’ at a ‘Be My Guest’ lunch. Delve into Vaud traditions and generations of expert winemaking at the 15th-century vineyards of Cave Champ de Clos. Upon return to Geneva, explore the ‘City of Peace’ – the dramatic Alps and scenic Lake Geneva provide the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable afternoon of sightseeing. Join your Travel Director on an orientation of this small city to view the Reformation Monument, and see the Old Town, United Nations Building and Red Cross headquarters.

Day 5: Geneva – Grasse – Nice

The idyllic playground of southern France takes centre stage over the next two days as we journey to Nice, the jewel of the French Riviera. ‘Dive Into Culture’ and let the heady scents of French perfume infuse your senses during a visit to the Fragonard Perfumery in the village of Grasse. Here you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the art of creating beautiful fragrances.

Day 6: Nice

Soak up the sophistication of Nice, which for long has lured sun-worshipping aristocrats and tourists in search of a quiet seaside sojourn. Against the backdrop of colourful Italian and French façades, we drive along the Promenade des Anglais and see Place Massena during our orientation of the Bay of Angels. Spend the rest of the day discovering the Old Town. Consider a quiet coffee at one of the sidewalk cafés or dip your toes in the warm Mediterranean waters.

Day 7: Nice – Monaco – Pisa – Florence

Travel along the southern coastline of France, stopping at the Principality of Monaco to see the famous Prince’s Palace of Monaco, built as a Genoese fortress and home to the Grimaldi family since the 13th century. Cross the border into Italy and visit Pisa and its Square of Miracles to view the Leaning Tower and Baptistery, said to be the largest in Italy. We arrive in the ‘Cradle of the Renaissance’ this evening where we will enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 8: Florence Sightseeing – Venice

This morning, join a ‘Local Specialist’ who will reveal the story of the wealthy Medici family who influenced the art and architecture of what became one of the cultural centres of the world. You’ll visit the Piazza della Signoria with its beautiful statues and palazzi and enjoy views of the magnificent marble Duomo and Ponte Vecchio on whose arches were built the shops of successful merchants over 670 years ago. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Then, drive across the Veneto plain to Venice, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 9: Venice

Glide through the turquoise waters of the Venetian Lagoon by private launch to Giudecca Island. ‘Dive Into Culture’ and witness the centuries-old Venetian tradition of glassblowing. See the Bridge of Sighs and the ornate Doge’s Palace before spending the afternoon at leisure exploring the city’s labyrinthine alleys and ornate bridges that span almost 150 canals. Enjoy an evening drink at a charming trattoria on the water, shop up a storm in the alleyways of Le Mercerie or consider an Optional Experience to the colourful fishing island of Burano for a delicious meal.

Day 10: Venice – Rome

Today we cross the picturesque Apennine Mountains and journey through the rolling gold and green landscape of Tuscany, past the hilltop towns of Orvieto and Orte, arriving later in Rome, the ‘Eternal City’.

Day 11: Rome

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ to uncover the treasures of a city whose history spans millennia. Venture to St. Peter’s Basilica to view Michelangelo’s Pietà, hewn from the most ‘perfect’ block of Carrara marble, and travel across the Tiber River into Ancient Rome. Here you will see the Circus Maximus, which once played host to exhilarating chariot races, and view the Colosseum where brave gladiators and slaves met their fate. This evening we exchange stories about our epic journey through Europe with newfound friends and our Travel Director at a Farewell Dinner.

Day 12: Depart Rome

For now it’s a fond arrivederci to your Travel Director and travel companions at the end of a memorable holiday together.

We drive to the city of Pisa and its Square of Miracles to see the famous Leaning Tower which bears this city’s name. Day 1: London – Paris

Leaving the bright city lights of London behind us, we cross the English Channel by ferry from Dover to Calais, travelling across the World War I battlefields w here so many brave souls lost their lives. We catch a glimpse of the Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge before arriving in Paris. Later, we join our Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception including dinner and drinks and an evening drive to embrace the energy of this vibrant city.

Munich’s Marienplatz and Glockenspiel take centre stage this morning during an orientation tour of the city. We leave Germany for Switzerland, stopping in the Liechtenstein capital of Vaduz. Our home for the next two nights is one of Trafalgar’s ‘Stays With Stories’ – the Grand Hotel Europe, featuring a scenic lakeside and alpine backdrop.

Day 23: Lucerne

Pay tribute to the brave Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending King Louis XVI in the French Revolution and see the famous mournful Lion Monument. Day 24: Lucerne – Heidelberg – Rhine Cruise – Rhineland

View the ruins of Heidelberg Castle perched above the Neckar River and board a relaxing cruise down the mighty Rhine from St. Goar to Boppard – fantasy castles and hillside vineyards line your scenic journey. This evening, we stay at one of Trafalgar’s ‘Stays With Stories’ – Bellevue hotel, located close to the Rhine River.

Day 25: Rhineland – Cologne – Amsterdam

Admire the tall twin Gothic spires of the Cologne Cathedral this morning, before crossing into the Netherlands and on to Amsterdam where we spend the next two nights. Sit under the leafy canopy at Leidseplein indulging in Dutch beer and kroketten, hire a bike and hit the city’s tree-lined streets or bask in the warm glow and gezelligheid of one of the city’s renowned bruin cafés.

Day 26: Amsterdam

Enjoy an orientation of Amsterdam and spend the rest of the day exploring the city on foot, by bike or tram. Consider delving into the tragic story of Anne Frank, admire the works of Van Gogh or people-watch in Vondelpark. This evening enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your travel companions on board a glass-top boat. Cruise through the city’s canals looking up at the centuries-old gabled façades for which Amsterdam is so famous.

Day 27: Amsterdam – London

Drive through the peaceful landscapes of Belgium and France to Calais and cross to England by ferry. See the famous White Cliffs of Dover en route to London, where your memorable journey through Europe comes to an end.

Day 3: London – Paris, France

Transfer to the railway station and board the Eurostar Train to Paris with your Tour Director. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 5: Paris – Chateaux Country – Tours – Bordeaux

Travel south to Blois and along the Loire Valley, stopping in Tours to see the well-preserved historic centre. Continue to Poitiers, beautifully situated on a rocky plateau. South again to the Grande Champagne wine-growing area. Spend the night in Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne.

Day 6: Bordeaux – Carcassonne – Barcelona, Spain

From the vineyards of the Gironde and the Garonne, travel eastward to Carcassonne in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Spend some time to admire what is perhaps the best-preserved medieval fortified town in Europe. Later, cross the Spanish border and travel through Catalonia to Barcelona.

We cross the fertile Thessaly region and see the battle site at Thermopylae, where the heroic Leonidas and brave Spartans battled against the invading Persians. We arrive at the centre of the world and Mount Parnossos, joining a ‘Local Specialist’ to explore the ancient sanctuary of Delphi and seat of the most important oracle in the ancient classical world. Wander through the centuries-old ruins of the Sacred Way to the 5th-century Temple of Apollo and marvel at the site where athletes once competed in the Pythian Games held in honour of Apollo and the Arts. We arrive in Athens this evening.

Then, admire Michelangelo’s exquisite frescoed ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica, before crossing the Tiber to visit the Colosseum. Spend the afternoon as you wish. Sit on the Spanish Steps or indulge in a cappuccino on the Piazza Navona. This evening, we enjoy a delicious Regional Dinner in Rome.

Day 24: Rome – Florence

Journeying north through the beautiful landscapes of Umbria and Tuscany, we arrive in the Renaissance city of Florence. Join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour of some of the city’s iconic sites. View Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistery with its renowned bronze doors, and visit Piazza della Signoria. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft.

Day 25: Florence – Engelberg

Travel north across the snow-capped Alps into Switzerland, past beautiful Lake Lugano, continuing along the scenic St. Gotthard route into central Switzerland. We spend the next two nights in the popular winter sports resort town of Engelberg.

Day 26: Lucerne

The lakeside setting of Lucerne is ours to explore today. Pay tribute to the brave Swiss Guard at the Lion Monument and admire the wooden Chapel Bridge with its exquisite ceiling. Spend the rest of the day ambling through the medieval streets with their characteristic painted façades, or perhaps embark on an Operational Experience up one of the surrounding peaks.

Day 27: Engelberg – Paris

We cross into France and traverse the rolling Burgundy vineyards en route to the glittering capital of Paris. The City of Light shines brightly tonight as you explore the grand boulevards on your terms. Enjoy dinner at a cosy bistro or consider attending a colourful Parisian Cabaret performance.

Day 28: Paris

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ today for an informative sightseeing tour of the French capital. Drive along the Champs Élysées and see the Place de la Concorde. View Notre Dame and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. This evening, we celebrate an epic European voyage with newfound friends and our Travel Director at a Farewell Dinner.

Day 29: Paris – London

Departing Paris, we head north to Calais and bid France a fond farewell as we board a ferry to Dover and return to London.

Day 1: Arrive In Rome, Italy

Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this ancient capital. This evening, meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers.

Day 2: Rome

The “Eternal City” is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique! included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts with St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. Other highlights are the iconic Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built, and Circus Maximus. An optional visit is available to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous for Michelangelo’s impressive fresco of The Last Judgment.

Day 3: Rome – Orvieto – Siena

Journey to charming Orvieto in the Umbria region to visit its black basalt and travertine Cathedral, an excellent example of italian Gothic architecture. Reach Siena, with time to visit this Tuscan jewel. Sit in one of the cafes surrounding the Piazza del Campo and admire one of italy’s most unique squares, famed all over the world for its medieval-style Palio horse race.

Day 4: Siena – San Gimignano – Greve –  Montecatini

Arrive in San Gimignano and discover one of Tuscany’s greatest attractions. its medieval squares, town walls, streets, alleyways, and 14 towers are truly unique. Next, head into the very heart of the Chianti vineyards, where Chianti Classico wines are produced. Stop in Greve for Wine Tasting at a local wine estate. Arrive in Montecatini in time to join the optional Tuscan farm dinner.

Day 5: Montecatini – Excursion To Florence

This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled the entire day. Wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty. Don’t miss out on the included walking tour with a Local Guide, which features special city highlights. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Doors of the Baptistry, known as the “Gates of Paradise”.

Day 6: Montecatini – Pisa – Venice Area

This morning, drive to Pisa and enjoy a minitrain ride to see its Square Of Miracles and the amazing Leaning Tower-180 feet high and approximately 4 degrees out of the perpendicular. Head across the wooded Apennine hills into the farmlands of the Po Valley to the Venice area.

Day 7: Venice Area

Venice is more like a marvellous film set than a real-life city, with its crisscrossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. Your included orientation starts with a Boat Ride to St. Mark’s Square and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian Glassblowers fashion their delicate works of art as they did centuries ago. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you.

Day 8: Venice Area – Assisi – Rome

Travel across the Po Delta, then into the green Apennines to Umbria. Stop in medieval Assisi, where St. Francis was born in 1182. Visit the town and the world-famous Basilica with a Local Guide, then head for Rome.
