Day 1: Florence

Welcome to Florence, the heart of Tuscany and the perfect starting point for your Tuscan experience. Transfer to your hotel and relax in readiness for tomorrow’s departure. If not partaking in our pre-tour Florence city break, we suggest a visit to Florence Cathedral, Accademia or Uffizi Galleries or simply stroll the streets and take advantage of Florence’s famous leather markets.

Day 2: Florence – Pisa – Barga – Lucca

Depart for enchanting Pisa to view the Leaning Tower and the Piazza del Duomo, before enjoying lunch at an olive oil producing estate, paired with a tasting and workshop visit. In the afternoon, venture into Tuscany’s Garfagnana region, characterised by is mountainous and densely wooded terrain adjacent to the Northern Apennines. Visit the picturesque town of Barga, awarded an ‘orange flag’ as one the Best Villages of Italy. Afterward, check into your wonderful hotel within the protected walls of Lucca.

Day 3: Lucca

Enjoy a morning guided tour of Lucca, famous for its historic centre, medieval towers and best preserved ramparts in Italy. In the afternoon, embrace the opportunity to get lost in the town’s maze of streets, people watch in its famous Piazzas such as Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, Verdi, Napoleone and San Michele or wander along its ancient walls that now serve as a popular pedestrian promenade.

Day: 4 Lucca – Volterra – Monteriggioni – Chianti retreat

Visit the ancient Tuscan village of Volterra and enjoy a guided tour.An important Etruscan city, Volterra features beautiful winding cobbled streets and artisan craftsmanship, particularly alabaster carvings. The walled mountaintop town’s history dates to before the 7th century BC and contains structures from the Etruscan, Roman and Medieval periods. Afterward, have time to stroll around and enjoy an independent lunch before continuing to the unique medieval walled town of Monteriggioni. Afterward, venture into Chianti to your amazing rural retreat.

Day 5: Chianti retreat – Greve in Chianti – Castello di Brolio – Chianti retreat

B, LCommence your Chianti experience with a visit to Greve in Chianti that was settled well before the Etruscans. The town is one of the main towns in Chianti and is known for its triangular shaped main piazza and Franciscan monastery. Continue for a scrumptious lunch and tasting on a picturesque Chianti winery before returning to your hotel via a short visit to the gardens of Castello di Brolio.

Day 6: Chianti retreat – Radda in Chianti – Gaiole in Chianti – Castellina in Chianti – Chianti retreat

Enjoy the pleasure of a late morning start before visiting the delightful medieval town of Radda in Chianti. Located up on a hill and blessed with panoramic views, enjoy time to wander around and have an independent lunch before continuing to nearby Castello di Meleto for a castle tour and wine tasting on grounds surrounded by vines. Afterward, enjoy dinner in a local restaurant in the endearing Castellina in Chianti.

Day 7: Siena – San Gimignano – Monteriggioni – Siena

Bthe Museo Civico and Palazzo del Popolo. Enjoy time to explore the town at your leisure including perhaps, climbing the stairs of one of the towers for a fantastic view. In the early afternoon, depart for Siena, with its maze of narrow streets and alleys converging onto one of Europe’s most famous squares, the Piazza del Campo.

Day 8: Siena

BThis morning, enjoy a privately guided walking tour of Siena’s historic centre, declared a World Heritage Site for its preserved gothic appearance dating from the 12th to 15th century. The tour includes an explanation of Siena’s Contrade or family districts that have existed since the Middle Ages, as well as visits to Siena Cathedral and Piazza del Campo, that hosts the twice yearly Palio horse race. The afternoon is at leisure to wander the cobbled streets of this amazing town.

Day 9: Siena – Pienza – Montalcino

Travel into the inspiring and amazing Val d’Orcia, a region of Tuscany characterised by gentle cultivated hills, gullies and picturesque villages that have inspired painters through the ages and which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural landscape. Visit Pienza, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, continue to the world’s most enchanting wine region for lunch and wine tasting at a renowned vineyard. Finish with a brief visit to the town of Montalcino and nearby Abbey of Sant’Antimo before checking into your wonderful retreat.

Day 10: Montalcino – Pitigliano – Sorano – Montalcino

BVisit two of Italy’s most picturesque villages Pitigliano and Sorano, in the south of Tuscany close to the border with Lazio. Both towns are built into ‘tuff’ bedrock that formed into steep hills from volcanic ash. Enjoy time to stroll both towns before returning to your hotel.

Day 11: Tuscan retreat – Florence

If not continuing with us in Florence, Cinque Terre or to the Amalfi Coast, return to Florence airport, train station for your ongoing journey.

This is a comprehensive, affordable tour of Italy, showcasing some of the world’s most beloved cities (including Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples), historic sites, small towns, and scenic wonders. You’ll start and end in Rome focusing on Tuscany and the Naples area, but also visiting Venice, San Marino (one of the world’s smallest countries), and Assisi.

Day 1: Arrive In Rome, Italy

Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Italy’s ancient capital with the help of the CosmosGO app. This evening, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.

Day 2: Rome – Siena – Tuscan Hills

This morning journey to Siena, rightly considered the jewel of Tuscany. The Piazza del Campo is quite unique in shape and setting, and famous all over the world for the medieval-style Palio horse-racing event. Next, enjoy the beauty of the Tuscan countryside with its hillside towns and villages. Overnight in the heart of Tuscany.

Day 3: Tuscan Hills

A full day is dedicated to Florence, the “Cradle of the Renaissance.” Wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty. The included walking tour with a local Guide will introduce you to the main highlights.

Day 4: Tuscan Hills – Excursion to Florence

Day 5: Tuscan Hills – Verona – Venice Area

Leave the Tuscan Hills and, on the way to the Venice area, stop to visit Verona, the romantic city of Shakespearian plays. You’ll have time for a stroll in the center to see Juliet’s balcony or the Roman Arena.

Day 6: Venice

Venice is a city of unparalleled beauty and a feast of wonderful sites. View the delightful crisscrossing canals, gondolas, water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. Enjoy the included orientation, which starts with a boat ride to St. Mark’s Square, followed by time at leisure and a visit to a typical Venetian Glssblowing Workshop. In the afternoon, join one of the optional excursions.

Day 7: Venice Area – Ravenna – San Marino

Travel to Ravenna, a city that preserves the richest heritage of byzantine mosaics dating from the 5th century AD. After a stop here, continue to the tiny hilltop Republic of San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world.

Day 8: San Marino – Urbino – Gubbio – Assisi Area

First to Urbino to see its magnificent Ducal Palace towering over the town. Continue on to the verdant Umbria region to visit medieval Gubbio, where the superb view of the rooftops of the town from the Consul’s Palace is a must. Continue on to Foligno.

Day 9: Assisi Area – Sorrento Area

Start the day in Assisi with a guided tour of the Basilica Of St. Francis with its famous paintings by Giotto dating back to the 1300s. Continue south across the Apennines to the shores of the Mediterranean for three overnights in the picturesque Sorrento area.

Day 10: Sorrento Area – Excursion To Capri

Today, cross the crystal-blue waters to Capri. This legendary island, surrounded by rose-tinted rocks, has incredibly beautiful coves of translucent blues and greens. The town, with its pretty piazzetta, maze of streets, fashionable boutiques, and cozy restaurants, is a mecca for the jet set. An optional tour takes you around the island with its steep roads and panoramic views. Return to the Sorrento Area for an overnight.

Day 11: Sorrento Area

Spend the day to relax in the sun, explore on your own, or join an optional excursion to discover the unique beauty of the Amalfi coast.

Day 12: Sorrento Area – Pompeii – Naples – Rome

Leave the Sorrento area to discover one of the most intriguing archaeological sites in the world: Pompeii. This village was caught by surprise by the Vesuvius volcanic eruption in 79 AD, and excavations have uncovered a snapshot of ordinary Roman life. Back to the present, you’ll enjoy an orientation drive of culture-rich Naples before arriving in Rome.

Day 13: Rome

Steeped in history, Rome is vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique. Included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts with St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. Other highlights are the iconic Colosseum, the largest amphitheater ever built and Circus Maximus. Consider an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous for Michelangelo’s impressive fresco of The Last Judgment.

Day 15: Depart Rome

Your holiday ends with breakfast this morning.
