Day 1: London – Paris

Bid farewell to England watching the mystical White Cliffs of Dover disappearing in the distance as you travel by ferry across to France in the company of your Travel Director and fellow travellers. Pass the tragic World War I battlefields of northern France bound for Paris, where you’ll join your Travel Director and travel companions for a Welcome Reception, including dinner and drinks, followed by an orientation drive through the dazzling ‘City of Lights’.

Day 2: Paris

Explore the iconic and unexpected sights of Paris with your ‘Local Specialist’, which will take you past the grand Champs Élysées and Arc de Triomphe, where we pay tribute to the brave men and women who fought for France. View Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Spend the rest of the afternoon on your very own journey of discovery. Stroll along the Seine admiring the work of artists who have set up their easels next to the river, shop in the Marais district or find a cosy bistro with great views of the city. This evening, consider indulging in the colourful nightlife of Paris and attend a famous cabaret show.

Day 3: Paris – Beaune – Geneva

A patchwork of colours provide a beautiful backdrop for our journey through France’s rolling countryside to the Burgundy wine region. We visit the region’s capital, Beaune, renowned for its 15th-century Hôtel-Dieu, to admire its colourful geometrically patterned Burgundy tiled roof. Next, we cross the border to Geneva where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 4: Geneva

Enjoy some free time this morning before continuing along the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva, arriving in the celebrated Chexbres wine region where we will ‘Connect With Locals’ at a ‘Be My Guest’ lunch. Delve into Vaud traditions and generations of expert winemaking at the 15th-century vineyards of Cave Champ de Clos. Upon return to Geneva, explore the ‘City of Peace’ – the dramatic Alps and scenic Lake Geneva provide the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable afternoon of sightseeing. Join your Travel Director on an orientation of this small city to view the Reformation Monument, and see the Old Town, United Nations Building and Red Cross headquarters.

Day 5: Geneva – Grasse – Nice

The idyllic playground of southern France takes centre stage over the next two days as we journey to Nice, the jewel of the French Riviera. ‘Dive Into Culture’ and let the heady scents of French perfume infuse your senses during a visit to the Fragonard Perfumery in the village of Grasse. Here you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the art of creating beautiful fragrances.

Day 6: Nice

Soak up the sophistication of Nice, which for long has lured sun-worshipping aristocrats and tourists in search of a quiet seaside sojourn. Against the backdrop of colourful Italian and French façades, we drive along the Promenade des Anglais and see Place Massena during our orientation of the Bay of Angels. Spend the rest of the day discovering the Old Town. Consider a quiet coffee at one of the sidewalk cafés or dip your toes in the warm Mediterranean waters.

Day 7: Nice – Monaco – Pisa – Florence

Travel along the southern coastline of France, stopping at the Principality of Monaco to see the famous Prince’s Palace of Monaco, built as a Genoese fortress and home to the Grimaldi family since the 13th century. Cross the border into Italy and visit Pisa and its Square of Miracles to view the Leaning Tower and Baptistery, said to be the largest in Italy. We arrive in the ‘Cradle of the Renaissance’ this evening where we will enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 8: Florence Sightseeing – Venice

This morning, join a ‘Local Specialist’ who will reveal the story of the wealthy Medici family who influenced the art and architecture of what became one of the cultural centres of the world. You’ll visit the Piazza della Signoria with its beautiful statues and palazzi and enjoy views of the magnificent marble Duomo and Ponte Vecchio on whose arches were built the shops of successful merchants over 670 years ago. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city’s historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Then, drive across the Veneto plain to Venice, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 9: Venice

Glide through the turquoise waters of the Venetian Lagoon by private launch to Giudecca Island. ‘Dive Into Culture’ and witness the centuries-old Venetian tradition of glassblowing. See the Bridge of Sighs and the ornate Doge’s Palace before spending the afternoon at leisure exploring the city’s labyrinthine alleys and ornate bridges that span almost 150 canals. Enjoy an evening drink at a charming trattoria on the water, shop up a storm in the alleyways of Le Mercerie or consider an Optional Experience to the colourful fishing island of Burano for a delicious meal.

Day 10: Venice – Rome

Today we cross the picturesque Apennine Mountains and journey through the rolling gold and green landscape of Tuscany, past the hilltop towns of Orvieto and Orte, arriving later in Rome, the ‘Eternal City’.

Day 11: Rome

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ to uncover the treasures of a city whose history spans millennia. Venture to St. Peter’s Basilica to view Michelangelo’s Pietà, hewn from the most ‘perfect’ block of Carrara marble, and travel across the Tiber River into Ancient Rome. Here you will see the Circus Maximus, which once played host to exhilarating chariot races, and view the Colosseum where brave gladiators and slaves met their fate. This evening we exchange stories about our epic journey through Europe with newfound friends and our Travel Director at a Farewell Dinner.

Day 12: Depart Rome

For now it’s a fond arrivederci to your Travel Director and travel companions at the end of a memorable holiday together.

Day 1: Arrive Paris

Discover romance, sophistication and French joie de vivre in Paris – the launch pad to a memorable journey through the French countryside. Explore the grand boulevards and winding lanes of the ‘City of Lights’, before meeting your Travel Director and companions for a Welcome Reception. We take to the streets this evening to see some of the city’s most iconic sights, including the Champs Élysées and Arc de Triomphe, standing in all its glorious splendour for you to admire.

Day 2: Paris

Join a ‘Local Specialist’ to explore the Latin Quarter, a vibrant student hotspot and home to the Sorbonne University. Visit the remarkable church of Saint-Sulpice, then soak up the authentic atmosphere and local day-to-day life of the Parisians as you stroll through historic neighbourhoods. Spend your evening embracing the pageantry of Paris and perhaps experience a traditional Parisian Cabaret.

Day 3: Paris – Beaune – Lyon

Journey through the picture-perfect Burgundy wine region and stop in its walled regional capital, Beaune – most famous for the colourful geometric-tiled Hôtel-Dieu. We continue to the gastronomic capital of Lyon, where we spend the night. Discover the historic treasures of its well-preserved Old Town or perhaps indulge in delicious Beaujolais flavours in a local bouchon – the choice is yours.

Day 4: Lyon – Aix-en-Provence – Monaco – French Riviera

Follow the Rhône Valley south, enjoying some free time in Aix-en-Provence for a delicious lunch and the sweet flavours of Calissons, then stop in the glamourous Principality of Monaco bound for the sun-kissed shores of the French Riviera. View the Palace, which has been the home of the Grimaldis since the 13th century, and the cathedral where the late Princess Grace and Prince Rainier were married. This evening, we enjoy a delicious Regional Dinner together in Monaco before arriving at our hotel, where we’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 5: French Riviera

The sun-kissed shores of the French Riviera are yours to explore today. Consider relaxing on the beach with your fellow sun-worshippers or an Optional Experience could see you visit the hilltop town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a popular haunt for actors seeking a relaxing retreat. In your free time, you have the opportunity to soak up the fresh sea air and perhaps indulge in a delicious Salade Niçoise.

Day 6: French Riviera – St. Tropez – Avignon

We arrive by boat in glitzy St. Tropez for a leisurely morning sojourn to soak up our fashionable surrounds. Continue on to the ancient city of Avignon, once the Seat of the Papacy, where we will spend the next two nights. Our orientation of this extraordinary historic city includes views of the imposing Palace of the Popes and the famous ruined bridge straddling the Rhône, which inspired the famous French song, Sur le pont d’Avignon..

Day 7: Pont du Gard & Arles Excursion

We visit the impressive Pont du Gard aqueduct and learn about the history of this elevated architectural wonder that has spanned the Gardon River since Roman times. Continue to Arles, to admire the Romanesque Cathedral and Roman amphitheatre, once the site of bloody battles and exhilarating chariot races. Tread in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh with your ‘Local Specialist’, exploring the heritage of a city that was once an important Phoenician trading port. Tonight, we enjoy delicious Provençal flavours as we ‘Connect With Locals’ and join the widow of Pierre Salinger for a memorable ‘Be My Guest’ dinner in a converted historic mill on the banks of the Sorgue.

Day 8: Avignon – TGV Train – Paris

The picture-perfect French countryside is our constant companion as we take the high-speed TGV train through the heart of France, past Auxerre and the sprawling vineyards of Burgundy back to Paris where you have the rest of the afternoon to explore the city on your own terms. This evening we celebrate an unforgettable sojourn through France at a Farewell Dinner with our Travel Director and newfound friends.

This morning after breakfast, it’s time to bid Paris a fond au revoir as our fascinating journey through France comes to an end.

Day 1: Arrive In Paris, France

Welcome to Paris! At 5:30 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner at one of Paris’ lively restaurants, followed by an orientation drive.

Day 2: Paris

Sightseeing with a Local Guide features Paris’ main sights like the Arc de Triomphe, Opera, Madeleine, Louvre, Champs-Elysees, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Visit the impressive Courtyard of Les Invalides, a complex of buildings, originally built as a home and hospital for war veterans, which houses various museums as well as the Dome Church, burial place of Napoleon. To make the most of your stay, optional excursions are available.

Day 3: Paris – Versailles – Beaune

A short drive brings you to Versailles, where a guided visit to the impressive Palace And Gardens has been included. Continue along the Route du Soleil and take in views of châteaux before entering the Burgundy vineyards. Arrive in Beaune, wine capital of the region, and visit the famous Hotel-Dieu, which was originally built as a hospital for the poor. Time to stroll around in this quaint town. See Notre Dame Basilica, and enjoy a Wine Tasting at the renowned Marche aux Vins wine cellar.

Day 4: Beaune – Pont Du Gard – Avignon – Aix-En-Provence

Leave Burgundy and enter Provence. At Pont du Gard, marvel at the largest remaining Roman aqueduct in France, a monumental feat of engineering completed in 19 BC. Avignon, a walled town on the Rhone River, became the residence of the popes in the 14th century. During your walking tour, take pictures of the magnificent Palace of the Popes and the famous bridge, and browse through the colourful shops that sell traditional products made in Provence, like cloth, honey, herbs, and nougat candy. Next is the pleasant town of Aix-en-Provence.

Day 5: Aix-En-Provence

Aix-en-Provence is one of France’s most elegant cities; it was the birthplace of painter Cezanne, and has always attracted artists from around the world. Join your Tour Director for a pleasant walk to the Market Square. Wander through the maze of small streets and along shaded Cours Mirabeau. Balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 6: Aix-En-Provence – St. Paul De Vence – Nice – Monte Carlo, Monaco

Visit the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence, one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera. Marvel at the many art galleries and little shops, and try out a glass of the local pastis. Then, turn to the glittering Mediterranean Sea and arrive in the tiny Principality of Monaco, built on a rocky peninsula and famed for its nightlife. Later, join an optional excursion to see the palace and royal church of Monaco town, have dinner, and try your luck at the Monte Carlo casino.

Day 7: Monte Carlo – Excursion To Eze, France

Enjoy a morning at leisure to dabble in the blue Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon, a scenic drive with spectacular views brings you to Eze, where a unique highlight awaits: visit the famous Fragonard perfume factory and Create Your Own Fragrance, followed by a farewell dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate the success of your trip.

Day 1: Welcome to Paris

Airport transfers depart from Charles de Gaulle Airport for your hotel at 08:30, 11:00 and 13:30. Relax and settle in, or start exploring this great capital, before joining your Travel Director and fellow guests at 17:30 for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Journey through the Champagne region, famous for its magnificent core of medieval buildings, appropriately shaped like a champagne cork. Join an expert vintner for a taste of champagne and introduction to how the famous bubbly is made. Continue to the Burgundy region, once a powerful duchy and synonymous with fine wine before ending the day at your hotel in Dijon.

Day 3: Free Time in Dijon

Enjoy the Burgundy capital of Dijon. Its many handsome buildings recall the time when the Dukes of Burgundy were more powerful than the Kings of France. Perhaps take the opportunity to visit the wine capital of Burgundy, Beaune? In the evening, don’t miss the chance of an optional Burgundy wine tasting and traditional dinner in the Premier Cru village of Fixin.

Day 4: Chamonix

Travel towards the Mâconnais and Beaujolais before turning east into the Alps. A scenic symphony awaits you as you ascend into the high Alps and climb towards Mont Blanc, Western Europe’s highest mountain. Your destination is the fashionable ski resort of Chamonix. In the evening you may choose to try a local pierrade at a local trendy eatery in a traditional chalet. This Optional Experience provides the chance to try a typical regional meal, cooked on a table barbecue using on a hot stone.

Glorious mountain scenery will be yours to enjoy as you travel along a spectacular route, used by the Emperor Napoleon when he returned from his first exile to try to take the throne of France once more. Continue to the French Riviera to reach the elegant resort of Nice. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore as you wish. In the evening, why not walk through old town Nice, ending in Cours Saleya where dinner is at your leisure at one of the many lovely bistros?

Wake up ready to rub shoulders with the jet-set on the glamorous Côte d’Azur. Unlock the secrets of the French perfume industry with a visit to a perfumery, where fragrance experts waft exclusive scents from stoppered bottles. Then enjoy a drive along part of the Grand Prix circuit in Monaco and walk with your Travel Director through the old town to see the Royal Palace and yacht-filled harbour. Your exploration continues as you visit inside Monaco Cathedral, housing the tomb of Princess Grace. The rest of the day is set aside for you to enjoy the French Riviera at your own pace. Perhaps join an Optional Experience to visit to the medieval village of Eze and its hill-top Botanical Gardens for a spectacular view of the coastline?

Day 8: Picturesque Provence

Visit the medieval village of Saint-Paul de Vence, perched high above the Riviera beaches. A walk through its winding streets reveals elegant fountains, vine-covered stone walls and views of mountains and sea. Continue to Aix-en-Provence to see the sumptuous mansions lining the Cours Mirabeau and on to your hotel.

Stop in Avignon to enjoy views of the remaining arches of the Pont d’Avignon and the fortified Papal Palace. Enjoy a wonderful introduction to the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, tasting the difference for yourself as you learn about the grape varieties. Continue your journey to Pont du Gard to see the greatest of Roman remains. This afternoon, enjoy a lesson in the French sport of pétanque. Steady your hand and get ready to test your new found skills as you take part in a game. After, reward yourself and fellow friends with a glass of pastis, a French apéritif.

Day 10: Carcassonne and to Albi

Head to beautiful Arles and trace the history of the town home to Vincent Van Gogh. Cross the fertile Languedoc region, before journeying inland to the fortified town of Carcassonne. Travellers are often amazed at their first sight of this medieval gem, known for its fortress – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a complete set of ramparts and a medieval keep. Travel on to Albi, the birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec. During your orientation with your Travel Director, marvel at iconic sites including the views of Toulouse Lautrec Museum and the famous awe-inspiring cathedral, before spending the remainder of the day at leisure. This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

Enjoy a full day at leisure to relax and soak up the atmosphere of Albi.

Stop in Cahors, famous for its Black Wine, and see the Pont Valentré. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the open air market – full of fresh, seasonal produce and local delicacies, it’s an experience to delight all of the senses. Travel to Rocamadour and enjoy free time to explore this medieval town perched on a cliff side above the Alzou River and known as a resting place for pilgrims on their way to Spain. Learn about the aromatic ‘black diamonds’ as you enjoy a presentation and a walk the through truffle valley led by a hunting dog. After your search, savour a tasting of a variety of truffles and truffle pastes, paired with a glass of wine. Continue to the beautiful town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, its medieval core blessed with fine historic golden limestone houses.

Start the day with a morning drive into the stunning Valley of the Dordogne to visit Lascaux II where the world-famous prehistoric cave paintings have been faithfully reproduced. Enjoy a delicious Farm-to-Table Dinner, prepared with locally sourced ingredients, and served with wines from the local region.

Travel onwards to immerse yourself in the beautiful city of Paris where on arrival you are free to explore this fascinating city as you wish. As evening descends, the City of Light lives up to its name as the monuments, buildings and bridges are lit up in all their glory.

During your time in Paris your Travel Director introduces you to all the sights including Notre Dame Cathedral and the facades of the Louvre. See the Place de la Concorde and travel down the Champs Elysees to Napolean’s Arc de Triomphe. After dark, the City of Light really lives up to its name when the monuments, buildings and bridges are lit up in all their glory. Explore Paris with Insight Choice. Choose between shopping at Galeries Lafayette and a guided tour around the Right Bank led by the Local Expert. Alternatively, join a local foodie to explore small shops and sample local treats and delicacies. You are in for a memorable evening starting with a delicious Highlight Dinner at the historic restaurant La Coupole, serving delicious French cuisine and wine.

Follow the River Seine to Rouen, capital of Normandy, to admire its ancient cathedral – a masterpiece of the Gothic style and the subject of a series of paintings by Claude Monet. Wander through the narrow streets beneath the Great Clock to the Old Market Square. Here, a superb modern church commemorates the burning of Joan of Arc on this very spot in 1431. Continue to the charming fishing town of Honfleur and to your luxurious hotel located in the chic seaside resort of Deauville.

Following the route of the Rangers and visiting the bunkers and the Rangers Memorial at Pointe du Hoc. Then with a Local Expert, spend a few reflective moments at the American Military Cemetery of Saint-Laurent near Omaha Beach before a visit to the D-Day Museum to see the remnants of the artificial port in the bay of Arromanches. There are poignant reminders of World War II as you travel past Juno and Gold beaches, which both played a part in the Normandy landings. This evening you are treated to a delightful dinner, which promises creative cuisine, seasonal ingredients and delicious wines.

Journey through Bocage country for an exploration of the hilltop abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel with your Local Expert. The abbey stands on an island and is reached by a causeway across the shining sands. Behind the outer ring of defences huddles the small town – it’s one street containing shops, cafes and hotels. Continue along the Emerald Coast to stunning Saint-Malo, situated on the Rance Estuary and one of the most charming places in France. A Local Expert will take you on an exploration of the City of the Corsairs. Walk through the maze of streets of Intra Muros, the walled city, to the cathedral, the burial place of Jacques Cartier and other celebrated voyagers. At your leisure, you can wander around the ramparts of the thick city walls, offering fantastic views over the old town and the bay. By night, the town’s medieval maze of winding streets is abuzz with quaint bars and restaurants. Alternatively, you may wish to join an Optional Experience to Cancale, known throughout France of its oyster beds, for a delicious meal of fresh seafood and other Breton specialties?

Head south to follow the valley of the Loire, passing the moated Angers Castle. Cross the Loire to Saumur, where a local vintner will guide you through tastings of the region’s delicious wines. Head to Château de Villandry, the jewel of the Loire, to visit the glorious gardens.
