Day 1: Arrive In Madrid, Spain

Check into your hotel. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers.

Day 2:  Madrid

Spain’s capital is a city of elegant boulevards and manicured parks. Masterpieces by Goya, Velazquez and other Spanish masters can be found at Madrid Prado Museum. Get a feel of the city this morning during your included guided sightseeing tour. Enjoy a panoramic drive of the Avenida Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Parliament Square, and a picture stop outside the Royal Palace. in the afternoon, maybe revisit some of the morning’s attractions, join an optional excursion, or just relax and take in the atmosphere.

Day 3: Madrid – Toledo – Cordoba

Leave the capital and head towards Toledo. Meet your Local Guide for a sightseeing tour, and visit the St. Tome Church, famous for El Greco’s celebrated painting “The Burial of Count Orgaz”. Continue into the very heart of La Mancha, known for its castles and windmills, as you travel to Cordoba, built on the banks of the Guadalquivir River.

Day 4: Cordoba – Seville

The highlight of this morning’s visit to Spain’s most Moorish city is the Mezquita, one of islam’s most important pieces of architecture outside the Arab world. The former mosque was converted to a Catholic cathedral in 1236, following the Reconquista. Stroll through the Jewish quarter along small, white-washed houses, winding streets, and squares. Departing Cordoba, enjoy more Andalusian landscapes before reaching Seville, one of Spain’s most colourful cities. Perhaps tonight you’d like to join an optional flamenco performance?

Day 5: Seville

The wonderful Andalusian city of Seville is the epitome of Spain with its fiery flamenco, Moorish splendour, fragrant gardens, and elegant piazzas. Admire the city’s many highlights this morning during your sightseeing tour with a Local Guide. The afternoon is dedicated to your independent discoveries.

Day 6: Seville – Ronda – Costa Del Sol

Today, take the scenic inland route to incomparable Ronda, the emblem of all Andalusian white-washed villages, boasting one of the most dramatic cityscapes in the world. Spanning the deep El Tajo gorge, it is known for its fascinating history, charm, and three remarkable bridges that cross the canyon. Continue to your hotel on the Costa del Sol.

Day 7: Costa Del Sol – Excursion To Malaga

Begin the day with an included excursion to the charming port city of Malaga, the southernmost large city in Europe, and birthplace of Pablo Picasso. Founded by the Phoenicians around 770 BC., it’s one of the oldest cities in the world and yet among the liveliest in Spain.

Day 8: Costa Del Sol – Granada

Our Spanish journey continues to history-steeped Granada at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. On the included tour, your Local Guide will bring to life the world-famous Alambra Complex. Built by Moorish kings in 889 AD, initially to be a hilltop fortress, the building was extended over the centuries and transformed into a magnificent palace featuring lavish gardens, and it still is the epitome of architectural ornate beauty.

Day 9:   Granada – Aranjuez – Madrid

The olive and orange groves of the rolling Andalusian hill, as well the barren landscapes of Don Quixote’s La Mancha, unfold before your eyes. Stop at a local Wine Cellar to discover and taste some wines from the area and enjoy the beauty of the countryside. As you approach Madrid, stop in the Castilian Plain to visit Aranjuez, declared UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape for its spectacular gardens and magnificent monuments such as the Royal Palace.

Day 1: Arrive Madrid

Beautiful, majestic and relaxed. Welcome to Spain’s capital Madrid and the start of this amazing journey to experience the best of Spain. On arrival, transfer to your hotel to freshen up before enjoying the rest of the day to explore at your leisure.

Day 2: Madrid

Enjoy a guided tour of this amazing city with its historic landmarks, beautiful gardens, bustling squares, thriving nightlife and incredible shopping. Visit Plaza de Oriente, Royal Palace of Madrid, Madrid Cathedral, Plaza de la Villa, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Puerta de Alcalá and the Prado Museum. The afternoon is yours to perhaps enter Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, the exquisite gardens of Retiro Park or just relax.

Day 3: Madrid – Toledo – Madrid

Enjoy a full day excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage town Toledo that hosted Christian, Muslim and Jewish cultures. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the Imperial City’s old town located on a mountain with a 150-degree view. Visit the imposing Alcázar fortress, Toledo’s impressive Cathedral, the Bridge of San Martin and the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Afterward, enjoy leisure time for an independent lunch, perhaps a visit to a Damascene steel workshop or a tasting at a Marzipan store, before returning to Madrid..

Day 4: Madrid – Córdoba

Journey by train through Castilla–La Mancha, a symbol of Spanish culture with its vineyards, sunflowers, mushrooms and olive plantations. On arrival in Cordoba, you will be whisked away to a winery for wine tasting, before checking into your Córdoba hotel.

Day 5: Córdoba

Today explore Córdoba, the most populated city in the world during the 10th century when it was the capital of an Islamic Kingdom. Enjoy a guided tour to the UNESCO World Heritage Listed old town including ‘Mezquita’ or the Great Mosque. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day: 6 Córdoba – Úbeda – Baeza – Granada

Today visit the UNESCO World Heritage Listed towns of Úbeda and Baeza, famed for their outstanding early examples of Italian Renaissance architecture introduced to Spain in the 16th Century. Enjoy time to stroll the towns and be treated to a tasting of olive oil, Andalusia’s world famous export. Continue to Granada, where the evening is yours to stroll the streets of this stunning town, located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Hotel: Hotel Alhambra Palace or similar, 2 nights

Day 7: Granada

Enjoy a guided tour of Palace Alhambra, one of the world’s most beautiful examples of Islamic architecture with its exquisite rooms and gardens. The afternoon is free to enjoy at your leisure to perhaps explore El Albayzín, the Medieval Moorish district with narrow winding streets and stunning views to Alhambra. Alhambra and Albayzín are UNESCO World Heritage Listed sites.

Day 8: Granada – Ronda – Seville

Depart for the beautiful ‘white village’ of Ronda, perched atop a deep canyon with its three impressive bridges and Real Maestranza de Caballeria de Ronda, the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain. Enjoy time to wander the town before continuing to Seville in Andalusia, Spain’s 4th largest city and the home of Flamenco. You will have time to relax and freshen up before an organized dinner and flamenco performance.

Day 9: Seville

Enjoy a guided walking tour of Seville, an economic centre of the Spanish Empire with Europe’s 3rd largest old town. Visit the 14th century Alcázar Palace, the oldest European royal residence still in use. Continue to Seville Cathedral, the world’s largest. Both Palace and Cathedral are UNESCO World Heritage listed sites. Finish by exploring ‘Barrio de Santa Cruz’, the old Jewish quarter. The quarter’s labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys were designed to protect locals from the summer sun. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 10: Depart Seville

Your tour ends with breakfast this morning and you will be transferred to the airport or train station.

Day 1: Arrive Madrid

Welcome to the fiery Iberian capital that is Madrid. Delve deep into the soul of a city that marches to the tune of the tapas, before meeting up with your fellow travellers and Travel Director for a memorable Welcome Reception and orientation drive to see some of the city’s most iconic sights.

Day 2: Madrid – Burgos – Santander

Journey over the pine-clad Guadarrama Mountains to Burgos, the historic capital of Castile, where we will visit the tomb of El Cid, a national hero and the protagonist of the most significant medieval Spanish epic poem – El Cantar de Mio Cid. We cross the Ebro River and the Cantabrian Cordillera Mountains, travelling to the coast and the sophisticated capital of the Cantabrian region, Santander.

Day 3: Santander – Bilbao – San Sebastián – Pamplona

We depart Santander and travel to Bilbao to view the striking Guggenheim Museum, built from titanium, glass and limestone and designed by renowned Canadian-American architect, Frank Gehry. Continuing to San Sebastián, the gourmet capital of Spain, we see the beautiful Bahia de La Concha beach during our orientation drive. Our overnight stay is in the vibrant city of Pamplona, famous for its Running of the Bulls fiesta. Follow in the footsteps of Hemingway and enjoy a drink at Café Iruña, ramble along the brilliantly lit city ramparts or delight in the local pintxos before enjoying dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day 4: Pamplona – Zaragoza – Barcelona

Our journey continues through the Ebro Valley to Zaragoza where we’ll view the Basilica of El Pilar and Cathedral of La Seo. Arrive in Barcelona, soak up the charm of a city that professes two great loves – Gaudí and football. Enjoy panoramic views of a city, which dates back to Roman times, from atop Montjuïc, then spend the rest of the day at leisure. Amble through the Gothic Quarter’s labyrinthine lanes, indulge in the aromas and flavours of La Boqueria and discover the best crema Catalana in town.

Day 5: Barcelona Sightseeing and Free Time

The whimsical fantasy world of Gaudí is on display this morning as we embark on a sightseeing tour to see the inspiring, but as yet unfinished, La Sagrada Família in the company of a ‘Local Specialist’. We’ll see Las Ramblas and Plaça de Catalunya, which lies at the heart of Barcelona, before paying tribute to Christopher Columbus at the monument that bears his name. This afternoon, consider joining an Optional Experience to the mountain-top monastery of Montserrat to see the shrine of the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Catalonia.

Day 6: Barcelona – Peñiscola – Valencia

The sweet scent of oranges accompanies us on our journey along the Costa Dorada south to fortified Peñíscola, where we’ll see the ancient castle used in the film ‘El Cid’. Continuing through fertile huertas, we arrive in sunny Valencia where we will stay the night. Our orientation of this cultural city includes views of the town hall, the Bull Ring, the Towers of Serrano and Quart, and the cathedral, which is said to house one of the Holy Chalices of the World. Witness the modern verve of Valencia and view the City of Arts and Sciences, a large-scale urban recreation centre for culture and science, designed by Santiago Calatrava, before spending the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 7: Valencia – Granada

Journey via the dramatic Mora Pass to the city of Granada where we meet our ‘Local Specialist’ for a sightseeing tour of the spectacular UNESCO-listed Alhambra. Its golden façades and extraordinary Moorish architecture reflect centuries of multi-cultural history, which you will have a rare opportunity to explore as you wander through its palaces and exotic water gardens. Check in to your hotel later, where you dine tonight.

Day 8: Granada – Costa del Sol

Set your watch to Spanish time and enjoy a leisurely morning on your terms, or consider taking an Optional Experience to explore the medieval Moorish Quarter of Granada – Albaicín – with its narrow winding lanes, churches, minarets and palaces. We leave Granada behind for the sun-kissed shores of the Costa del Sol, where we’ll spend the next two nights. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Stroll along the beachside promenade, relax at one of the nearby beach cafes or visit the picture-perfect whitewashed Andalusian village of Mijas – the choice is yours.

Day 9: Costa del Sol Free Day

Another day in paradise for you to kick back, worship the Spanish sunshine and taste la buena vida. Enjoy fresh seafood in Torremolinos, relax on the bleached beaches and soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere or consider an Optional Experience to the effervescent Andalusian capital of Málaga to explore centuries of history.

Day 10: Costa del Sol – Gibraltar – Seville (2 Nights)

A scenic drive takes you past the millionaire’s resort of Marbella and on to La Linea. Cross to the Rock of Gibraltar, for free time to explore or consider joining an Optional Experience to St. Michael’s Cave to see the Barbary Macaques (Rock Apes). This afternoon, continue through the Andalusian countryside past Jerez – famous for its sherry production – to Seville. Tonight we ‘Connect With Locals’ over a ‘Be My Guest’ dinner at the Morillo family olive oil mills.

Day 11: Seville Sightseeing and Free Time

Join your ‘Local Specialist’ this morning for a tour of Seville’s leafy avenues. See the iconic Giralda Bell Tower and visit the Seville Cathedral, the final resting place of Christopher Columbus. Stroll through Maria Luisa Park, with its tiled fountains, pavilions, palms and orange trees, and walk through the imposing Plaza de España. Explore the Jewish history of Spain in Seville’s former Jewish Quarter, where a wall separated the Jewish community from the rest of the city during medieval times. Tonight, consider soaking up the fiery flamenco atmosphere in the city that made this passionate dance famous.

Day 12: Seville – Córdoba

We journey to Córdoba to meet a ‘Local Specialist’ for a visit to the astounding Mosque of the Caliphs, a jewel of Hispano-Islamic art featuring striking arches and Byzantine mosaics. Then visit the remains of the 14th-century Mudéjar-style synagogue in the old Jewish neighbourhood, before spending the rest of the day at leisure admiring the city’s extraordinary Moorish architecture and heritage. This evening we dine at our hotel.

Day 13: Córdoba – Toledo – Madrid

We leave Andalucía and cross Don Quijote’s La Mancha region, famous for its windmills, wines and cheese. Your ‘Local Specialist’ takes you on a walking tour of Toledo where you’ll ‘Dive Into Culture’ as you explore this ancient hilltop city. Visit the Church of Santo Tomé, home to El Greco’s masterpiece – ‘The Burial of the Count of Orgaz’, and the synagogue, the oldest one still standing in Europe. This evening we arrive in feisty Madrid, where we’ll spend the next two nights.

Day 14: Madrid Sightseeing and Free Time

The grand plazas of Madrid take centre stage today as we join our ‘Local Specialist’ for a sightseeing tour of Spain’s capital city. See Gran Vía and the Cibeles Fountain before visiting the world-famous Prado Museum, featuring one of the world’s finest collections of European art, including masterpieces by Velazquez. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the city. Visit the Royal Palace with its spectacular Goya artworks, relax in the leafy Buen Retiro Park or enjoy the flavours and aromas of jamon in the Market of San Miguel. This evening, join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for an unforgettable Farewell Dinner to celebrate an epic adventure through Spain.

Day 15: Depart Madrid

Our journey together has come to an end. For now it’s a fond adiós to Spain and newfound friends.
