Day 3: Victoria, WhistlerDrive to the town of Chemainus before boarding a ferry across the Georgia Strait to Horseshoe Bay. Admire the Coastal Mountains as you travel along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway with a stop at Shannon Falls on your way to Whistler. Enjoy an indigenous-inspired dinner at the Lil’ wat Squamish Cultural Centre, and gain insight into the heritage of the local First Nations. Day 16: Tracy Arm, JuneauToday your journey brings you to Juneau, which is Alaska’s capital. Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, the massive Mendenhall Glacier and Juneau Icefields are situated at the city’s back door. Spend some time to take in the diverse terrain or perhaps make your way to the town and explore the rustic shops located here. Alternatively, you may also like to experience an exhilarating dog sled ride over a glacier. Other activities available to you include sampling salmon baked over a fire or even trying your hand at panning for gold (all activities are at own expense).
Day 17: SkagwayToday you’ll dock at the port of Skagway, which is located at the northernmost point of the Inside Passage. Skagway was once a frontier town and gateway to the Klondike and still celebrates its gold rush past to this day. You will find a variety of stores and saloons in town that capture the excitement and history of the gold rush days. Here you’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about gold prospecting or view some of the fascinating local wildlife (own expense).
Day 18: Glacier BayWake up to the breathtaking sight of Glacier Bay National Park this morning, with its formidable rivers of ice, wild coastline and sheltered fjords. As you cruise through the national park, it is easy to see why the area has received World Heritage status. Today, you’ll gain a more detailed insight into the unique nature of this national park as local rangers will join you on board to impart their knowledge explain the geological wonders and diverse wildlife of this incredible region.
Day 19: KetchikanArrive today in the Alaskan town of Ketchikan, renowned for its idyllic scenery, rich Alaskan Native culture, and as the salmon capital of the world. Here, you will have free time to relax and explore the town at your leisure. Perhaps join a walking tour of the town or learn about fascinating Tlingit culture at Saxman Native Village (both at own expense).
Day 20: Inside PassageToday marks your final day on board your premium Holland America Line cruise ship. You’ll spend the day cruising south through the Inside Passage and its magnificent landscapes and towering glaciers. Relax on board and enjoy the premium facilities of your ship as you take in the incredible views. This evening, savour a final dinner.

There are highland villages to visit, the scenic Cabot Trail to explore, golden inland seas to sail and the Fortress of Louisbourg to inspect. This is a true step back in time, as every barn, barracks and drum corps appears just as it did when French King Louis’ troops occupied the site in 1744.
Day 15: HalifaxFor ocean scenery at its best, it is hard to beat Nova Scotia’s south shore. Here, find craggy coastlines, the fabled Peggy’s Cove, and the striking German village of Lunenburg, which is so meticulously restored it has been designated a World Heritage-listed site. After your time exploring here, journey back to Halifax, Nova Scotia’s bustling capital. Spend time exploring the ramparts of Halifax Citadel and a museum commemorating the Titanic.
Day 16: Bar HarborCross into the United States and arrive in Bar Harbor, once the exclusive summer resort of America’s fabulously wealthy. Today, Bar Harbor is an artists’ enclave and gateway to the rich natural beauty of Acadia National Park, much of which was donated by the Rockefeller family.

Day 1: Arrive Anchorage

Anchorage stands as proud gateway to the wilderness of Alaska and it is your launch pad to a rugged adventure that will take you to the Yukon and back again. This evening, you’ll join your Travel Director and fellow expeditioners for a Welcome Reception at 6 p.m. at your hotel.

Day 2: Anchorage – Matanuska Susitna Valley – Valdez

Today, we slice through the natural splendour of Alaska’s Matanuska Susitna Valley, driving along scenic country roads and past towns bathed in sunlight all day and night in summer. Bound for the Switzerland of Alaska, we’ll stop at Wrangell St. Elias and Worthington Glacier easily accessed along Thompson Pass, which holds the distinction of being Alaska’s snowiest place. Arriving in Valdez, we’ll enjoy an evening at leisure to explore this ‘Little Switzerland’ against the backdrop of the mighty Chugach Mountains.

Day 3: Prince William Sound

Delve into the rich heritage of Valdez, the Copper River Valley and Prince William Sound, from the days when Native Alaskans first occupied the area to present day. Discover the city’s role in the area’s fur trading, salmon canning and mining eras during your morning’s visit to the Valdez Museum. Then, board a glacier and wildlife cruise for your journey through the icy grips of Prince William Sound with the densest concentration of tidewater glaciers in the world. Keep a keen eye out for seals, sea lions, otters, whales and puffins as you journey past towering ice cliffs throughout your half-day exploration which includes lunch on the boat.

Day 4: Valdez – Chicken, Alaska – Dawson City, Canada

Contemplate a protected wilderness larger than any other in the United States. Journey into the clouds, winding along the Top of the World Highway bound for the Yukon. Stop in Chicken Alaska, an Alaskan Frontier town with a colourful Gold Rush history before crossing the border into Yukon Territory. This evening, the colourful frilly skirts of Diamond Tooth Gerties’ cancan girls take centre stage as you enjoy a foot-tapping Klondike performance. (Important Note: All guests must have a valid passport to travel into Canada’s Yukon Territory from Alaska.)

Day 5: Dawson City Sightseeing

Spend a leisurely day exploring the Gold Rush heritage of Dawson City. Take a step back in time, walking in the footsteps of hopeful prospectors as they trudged to Discovery Claim #1, the site where Gold was first discovered marking the beginning of the Klondike Gold Rush. Tame Lady Luck and pan for gold yourself, then visit a historic gold dredge seeing first-hand how it altered the landscape in its pursuit for gold. This afternoon, you’ll meet a gold miner and Local Specialist to gain insights into the past and present value of gold and its influence on the region.

Day 6: Tombstone Territorial Park

We journey deep into the Yukon wilderness today, winding our way along the Dempster Highway towards the Arctic Circle and through the traditional lands of the Gwich’in First Nations. We begin our encounter with Tombstone Territorial Park in its Interpretive Center, where we’ll join a Local Specialist who will reveal insights into the park’s wildlife and tundra before we continue along our scenic drive past rugged peaks and landscapes forged by frost. We return to Dawson City where we’ll stay overnight.

Day 7: Dawson City – Klondike Highway – Whitehorse

Trace the steps of famous Klondike Gold Rush prospectors, journeying south following the Klondike Highway and Yukon River. Learn about the colourful characters who embarked on a frenzied journey to seek their fortune in this unforgiving wilderness before arriving in the Yukon capital of Whitehorse where we’ll spend the next three nights surrounded by the peaks of Grey Mountain, Haeckel Hill and Golden Horn.

Day 8: Skagway Sightseeing

Immerse yourself in the intoxicating stories of the 1890s Yukon Gold Rush as you journey to the port community of Skagway Alaska. Consider joining an optional tour and ride the narrow-gauge White Pass Railroad, which once ferried prospectors into the Klondike goldfields. We return to Whitehorse later.

Day 9: Whitehorse Sightseeing

We’ll spend a leisurely day exploring Whitehorse together. Our first stop is a visit to the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center and SS Klondike Sternwheeler, one of the old ferries that used to run along the Yukon River. We’ll journey to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve this afternoon to see if we can spot any of its resident moose, bison, elk and foxes. This evening, we’ll enjoy a memorable BBQ Regional Meal in the midst of this wilderness before returning to Whitehorse.

Day 10: Whitehorse – Tok

Return to Alaska today, skirting the snowcapped Saint Elias peaks, along the Alcan Highway, en route to Tok, where we’ll stay tonight. Driving beneath the towering peaks of the Kluane Front Range look for Dall sheep and pass by Soldier’s Summit the location where the Alaska Highway was officially opened.

Day 11: Denali Highway – Denali National Park

Admire the epic mountain and glacier backdrop of one of the world’s most scenic drives as you journey along the Denali Highway en route to Denali National Park. See the snow-capped Eastern Alaska Range and Mt. Denali before arriving in a true wilderness that is home to North America’s tallest peak.

Hotel: Denali Park Village, 2 nights

Day 12: Denali National Park

Tune into your unfettered surrounds – a free day to connect with Denali on your terms. Be present amidst the sounds of Bunting and Gray Jays, hike through the wilderness or consider a whitewater rafting adventure. Day 1: Arrive Anchorage

Welcome to the edge of the wilderness – to a city surrounded by uninhabited landscapes and the perfect springboard to an epic adventure through Alaska. Spend the day recovering from your journey before joining your Travel Director and fellow travellers this evening for a Welcome Reception.

Day 2: Anchorage – Denali National Park

Kickstart your day with a brief Anchorage City Tour before visiting the Alaska Native Heritage Center where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Alaska’s 11 major cultural groups through storytelling and authentic demonstrations. We leave Anchorage bound for the untamed wilderness of Denali National Park. A Local Specialist will reveal insights into the rare Sub-Artic flora and fauna of the park before delving into Denali’s lively history during a Regional Meal and show at the Denali Dinner Theatre.

Day 3: Denali National Park and Free Time

Touch the sky as you wind your way through this untamed wilderness to catch a glimpse of the ‘Great One’. Embark on an extensive Denali Natural History Tour during which you’ll learn about the Alaskan natives who once lived in the park and the first ascent of Denali, North America’s highest peak. You’ll have the whole afternoon free to participate in an array of optional activities. See Denali’s incredible landscapes on a helicopter flight, battle the wild waters of the Nenana. River or join one of the free Denali National Park Service Programs.

Day 4: Denali National Park – Fairbanks

Tune into your beautiful surrounds you’ll have the whole morning to connect with Denali on your terms. This afternoon, we’ll join a Local Specialist at a Dog Musher’s kennel to learn about the sport of Dog Mushing in Alaska and witness first-hand how these energetic sled dogs lead the way. Later, we’ll board the Alaska Railroad, in a deluxe dome railcar, and make our way to the Golden Heart City of Fairbanks. A delicious Regional Meal is served on board a deluxe dome railcar before our arrival in Alaska’s Northern Lights capital.

Day 5: Fairbanks Sightseeing

This morning’s adventure sees us dig for insights into Alaska’s Gold Rush. ‘Dive into Culture’ with Fairbanks’ own Gold Daughters who will guide you through the process of panning for gold in real Alaskan paydirt. Then, board the Riverboat Discovery for further insights into the Gold Rush boom. Visit a recreated Athabascan Indian Village to learn about the culture of the Tanana Athabascans and indulge in the delicious flavours of a traditional salmon bake Regional Meal.

Day 6: Fairbanks – Valdez

We journey south to the port community of Valdez on Prince William Sound. As you carve your way through this rugged state along the Richardson Highway, Alaska’s oldest highway, you’ll encounter the snow-capped summits of the Alaska Range, expansive glaciers and views of the Trans Alaska Pipeline which parallels the highway. Stretch your legs during a brief stop at the Historic Rika Roadhouse, an important crossroads for travellers, and the Wrangell St. Elias Visitors’ Center, before arriving in Valdez.

Day 7: Valdez

Delve into the heritage and culture of Valdez, the Copper River Basin and Prince William Sound during this morning’s visit to the Valdez Museum. Keep a keen eye out for seals, otters, sea lions and porpoises as you cruise around Prince William Sound, admiring the plunging ice cliffs of Columbia Glacier which have calved giant icebergs into the bay. Enjoy lunch against the backdrop of your wild surrounds before returning to Valdez, your home for a second night.

Day 8: Valdez – Anchorage

We begin our return journey to Anchorage this morning, crossing Thompson Pass, one of the snowiest places in Alaska. ‘Make A Difference’ during your afternoon stop at the Musk Ox Farm. Here you’ll join a Local Specialist for a guided tour to view the Artic Musk Oxen and learn how this non-profit organisation promotes sustainable agriculture practice. Continuing your journey west, arriving in Anchorage later today where you’ll toast to new friends over a memorable Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 9: Anchorage – Seward – Kenai Fjords Cruise

We journey along the Scenic Seward Byway this morning to the port community of Seward. Our first stop is a ‘Make a Difference’ the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where a Local Specialist will reveal the role of this wildlife rehabilitation centre. Next up is a sightseeing cruise, including lunch, into the icy heart of Kenai Fjords National Park. Share the choppy waters with Humpback whales and glacial icebergs as you enjoy a lunch onboard.

Day 10: Depart Anchorage

Our adventure through the rugged Alaskan wilderness at its end, we take an airport transfer.

View the majestic surroundings from the comfort of your glass-domed railcar before meeting a local climber who will tell stories about what it’s like to brave a climb up the tallest land-based mountain in the world. In the evening, enjoy a Highlight Dinner hosted by Alaska Cabin Nite Dinner Theater. This theatrical dinner mixes old-time Alaska with storytelling, music and humour as you join a cast of characters in a tale of adventure in 1900s Alaska. The menu includes hearty Alaskan classics such as salmon, barbeque ribs and corn.

With the Denali National Park and Preserve just a short drive away from your hotel, you’ll find a number of ways to enjoy the Alaskan wilderness on your own, or spend the day partaking in one of our optional activities. Enjoy a scenic journey on the George Parks Highway. After lunch, meet the champion dog team of four-time Iditarod winner, Martin Buser and learn about the challenges of competing in the 1,049-mile (1,688 km) dogsled race. Journey on the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm with its dramatic views, before arriving in the town of Girdwood, home of the Alyeska Resort and ski area. Ride the aerial gondola for sweeping views of the mountains and sea. The evening is free for you to enjoy. You’ll get some shut eye at the luxurious Hotel Alyeska, which is nestled in a lush valley surrounded by mountain peaks, hanging glaciers and spectacular ocean views.

Today is devoted to the 26-Glacier Cruise through Prince William Sound and College Fjord, where you will come up close and personal with the glaciers. Visit with the Captain in the Wheelhouse and enjoy an included lunch. In the evening, join your Travel Director for a wonderful Celebration Dinner, featuring a variety of local seafood specialties, complete with wine and good cheer.

Visit the aquariums of the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward and enjoy an exclusive presentation about their marine research and rehabilitation programme. Have lunch and explore downtown at your own pace. Your Travel Director will be on hand to give you a few recommendations. Return to Anchorage and transfer to the airport or head to the trip hotel for guests extending their stay. Airport arrival will be at 17:00.

Arrive in Talkeetna, the starting point for climbers attempting to summit Denali (formerly known as Mount McKinley), the highest peak in North America at 6195 metres (20,320 feet). Board the historic Alaska Railroad for a scenic trip to Denali National Park. Enjoy dinner at the Murie Science & Learning centre, followed by an exclusive Presentation on Denali National Park by a local Naturalist.

Day 3: Denali National Park

Today, a guided Wilderness Tour takes you into 6-million-acre Denali National Park to explore the majestic wilderness and seek out grizzly bear, caribou, moose, and other wildlife! Your afternoon is free for optional adventures such as float trips, a dogsled demonstration, a helicopter ride over the park, or a delicious dinner and rollicking musical comedy performed in a camp house reminiscent of the Gold Rush era.

Day 4: Denali National Park – Fairbanks

This morning, spend a little more time marveling at the wonder of Denali National Park. Then, enjoy a friendly atmosphere during lunch at the 49th State Brewery, where you’ll have a chance to sample some local specialties. Travel into the heart of Alaska to Fairbanks, where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 5: Fairbanks

This morning, board the sternwheeler Discovery for a cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers, with a stop at a recreated Chena Indian Village to learn about Athabascan Native culture. Later, visit the University Of Alaska-Fairbanks Museum during your Fairbanks city tour, and also stop at the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline.

Day 6: Fairbanks – Dawson City

Continuing the journey into Gold Rush history, motor over the Top of the World Highway and enter Canada’s Yukon Territory. Passing through the village of Chicken, today promises to be filled with breathtaking scenery. Tonight, you have reservations at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s, featuring ragtime music, can-can girls, and an old-fashioned casino.

Day 7: Dawson City

Today, step back in time at the site of Claim #1, where the first gold strike was made. Continue to the Robert Service Interpretive centre and learn about the “Bard of the Yukon” and the numerous poems and ballads he composed while exploring this remote area. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Your Tour Director will have suggestions for additional sightseeing, shopping, and dining.

Day 8: Dawson City – Whitehorse

Today, trace the trail of the gold seekers on their way to the Klondike. View the Five Finger Rapids, which once posed a major obstacle to the hordes of fortune seekers stampeding into the Yukon. Your day concludes in Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon.

Day 9: Whitehorse

A city tour stops at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive centre, where you can meet the Ice Age giant mammals that once ruled the ancient subcontinent. See the SS Klondike Riverboat and learn about its importance on the Yukon River in the Gold Rush days. Later, head to Whitehorse’s premier dogsled facility, Muktuk Adventures, where you will personally meet the huskies and their trainers. Here, learn about the training and care of Alaskan Huskies, as well as the lifestyle required to race in world-famous competitions such as the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. Afterward, enjoy a special Taste of the Yukon dinner.

Day 10: Whitehorse – Tok

Return to Alaska, travelling along the rugged mountains of Kluane National Park, home to 5984 metre (19,625-foot) Mount Logan, Canada’s highest peak. Continue on the Alaska Highway to Tok, the “Dog Sled Capital of the World”.

Day 11:   Tok – Valdez

Head to Alaska’s northernmost ice-free port, Valdez, home of the Alyeska Pipeline Terminal. As you travel toward some of the highest coastal mountains in the world, enjoy views of Thompson Pass, Worthington Glacier, and Bridal Veil Falls before arriving in the “Switzerland of Alaska”- Valdez. Visit the unique Valdez Museum late this afternoon.

Day 2: Anchorage – Valdez

Meet your fellow travelling companions at this morning’s welcome orientation. Travel through Palmer in the Matanuska Valley, where cabbages can grow to an amazing 70 pounds in the 24-hour daylight. Venture up over Tahneta Pass for wonderful vistas of Matanuska and Worthington Glaciers. Stop at Bridal Veil Falls before arriving in the seaside port of Valdez, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Alaska.” Before dinner tonight, enjoy a special Presentation by a local fishing expert. Learn more about the Alaska fishing industry, the equipment used, and the daily lives of these fishermen.

Day 3: Valdez – Cruise On Prince William Sound

Board your boat for a Cruise on Prince William Sound. Along the 3-mile face of Columbia Glacier, keep a watchful eye out for wildlife, including seals, sea otters, birds, and even whales! Before returning to Valdez, see the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal, where supertankers are loaded with crude oil from Prudhoe Bay.

Day 4: Valdez – Delta Junction – Fairbanks

Enjoy great scenery all the way as you travel along Richardson Highway. Stop at Delta Junction, a living history homestead with a museum, original roadhouse, and farm animals. Then, head west on the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks, the state’s second-largest city.

Day 5: Fairbanks      

Visit Gold Dredge #8 and ride the narrow-gauge railroad. Then, try your luck as you pan for gold. Later today, board the sternwheeler Discovery for a cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers, with a stop at the Chena Indian Village to learn about Athabascan Native culture. You will also have the chance to meet Iditarod mushers and their famed dog teams to learn about breeding, training, and the big race! This evening, enjoy a special Alaska Salmon Bake.

Day 6: Fairbanks – Alaska Railroad – Denali National Park

Board the world-famous Alaska Railroad for a journey through untamed wilderness. Today’s ride ends at Denali National Park, known as Mount McKinley) majestically dominates the park’s 6 million acres. The afternoon is free. This evening, enjoy dinner at the Murie Science & Learning centre followed by an exclusive Presentation on Denali National Park by a local Naturalist.

Continue your exploration of Denali National Park as you head south toward Anchorage. Stop along the way at Happy Trails Kennels, home of four-time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser and his dogs. Meet an Iditarod competitor and learn how they race and care for their dogs. You will also see a demonstration on mushing, complete with a mock Iditarod checkpoint, and get a chance to play with the sled dogs! This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Over dessert, enjoy a special Presentation by an Alaskan bush pilot.

Day 9: Anchorage – Cruise In Kenai Fjords National Park

Continue your exploration of Denali National Park and then board the world-famous Alaska Railroad for a journey through untamed wilderness (see page 49 for information about your train). Today’s ride ends in the unique town of Talkeetna, a model for the TV show Northern Exposure.

Special Feature: Overnight at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, where you can enjoy hiking, flightseeing, jet boating, or just relaxing on the deck with amazing views of Denali.

Day 5: Talkeetna – Big Lake – Anchorage

This morning, enjoy a traditional Alaskan TREAT at the historic Talkeetna Roadhouse. Then, head south toward Anchorage. Stop along the way at Happy Trails Kennels, home of four-time Iditarod champion Martin Buser and his dogs. See a demonstration on mushing, complete with a mock Iditarod checkpoint, and get a chance to play with the sled dogs! This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner.

Day 6: Anchorage – Cruise In Kenai Fjords National Park

Witness one of the world’s most scenic drives as you follow the south shore of lovely Turnagain Arm. Upon arrival in Seward, board your vessel for a cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park and the opportunity to see glaciers calving into the sea, orcas, humpback whales, sea otters, and more!

Day 7: Depart Anchorage

The tour ends this morning with guests departing on individual schedules.

Alaska & The Yukon Tour

Day 1: Arrive Anchorage

Welcome to Anchorage! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.

Day 2:  Anchorage – Whittier – Valdez

As you enter Whittier from North America’s longest tunnel, the panoramic view of the ocean, mountains, and glaciers greet you. As the gateway to Prince William Sound, this is where you’ll board a Glacier Cruise for an up-close look along the 3-mile face of Mears Glacier, and the epicentre of the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964. Watch for eagles, whales, mountain goats, dolphins, and sea lions! Overnight in Valdez, the “Switzerland of Alaska”.

Day 3: Valdez – Tok

Leave Valdez, home of the Alyeska Pipeline Terminal, and enjoy views of Bridal Veil Falls, Worthington Glacier, and Thompson Pass. Visit the Wrangell-St. Elias Visitor centre and discover why this vast national park measures in size six times that of Yellowstone National Park, and rises from the ocean to 5490 metres (18,008 feet). Overnight in Tok, the “Dog Sled Capital of the World.”

Day 4: Tok – Whitehorse

Join the Alaska Highway and follow along the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. Skirt the shores of Kluane Lake, once a meeting place for crews constructing the Alaska Highway. Behold spectacular vistas of the rugged mountains of Kluane National Park, home to 5960 metre (19,551-foot) high Mount Logan, Canada’s highest peak. The next two nights are in Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon and the territorial headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Day 5: Whitehorse – Excursion To Skagway

Follow the Trail of ’98 over the same mountains that thousands of determined gold seekers scaled on foot in the dead of winter while heading for the Klondike. From Fraser, your Tour Director will suggest an optional train trip on the narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Railway to Skagway. Otherwise, continue by motorcoach to Skagway. Stroll the wooden sidewalks past charming false-front buildings and colourful saloons.

Note: Operation of the White Pass & Yukon Railway to Skagway is subject to seasonal conditions.

Day 6: Whitehorse – Dawson City

Head northwest through the town of Carmacks, once an important supply station for gold seekers on their way to the Klondike. A stop at the Five Finger Rapids, a major obstacle to the hordes of fortune seekers that passed this way. Reach Dawson City, the centre of excitement after the first gold strike in the Klondike in 1896, which led to the world’s largest gold rush. Tonight, enjoy the high-flying entertainment of Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon, featuring ragtime music, can-can girls, and an old-fashioned casino.

Day 7: Dawson City

Highlights on your morning sightseeing tour include Bonanza Creek, site of Claim #1, where the first gold strike was made; Robert Service Interpretive Centre, where you’ll get a first-hand glimpse into the life of this famous wordsmith, along with genuine Gold Rush era items. Enjoy a photo opportunity at the SS Keno, the last sternwheeler to run between Dawson and Whitehorse. The rest of your day is free to soak up the exciting history of this Gold Rush town at your own pace. Perhaps a return to Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Saloon is in order?

Day 8: Dawson City – Fairbanks

A full day and well worth it, as the scenery is magnificent. Have your camera ready for photo opportunities at Dawson overlook and Top of re-enter Alaska. Visit one of the last surviving gold rush towns in Alaska before heading west on the Alaska Highway. Stop at an authentic Alaska roadhouse before your evening arrival in Fairbanks.

Day 9: Fairbanks

Morning sightseeing features highlights of Alaska’s second-largest city and a visit to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery III for a leisurely cruise on the Chena River. You will see a bush floatplane take off alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner, Susan Butcher, and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian Village.

Day 10: Fairbanks – Alaska Railroad – Denali National Park

Board the worldfamous Alaska Railroad for a memorable journey through untamed wilderness. Sit back in comfort and enjoy spectacular scenery through wide windows. Be sure to take advantage of the domed-roof car. The ride ends in Denali National Park & Preserve. North America’s highest peak, 6192 metre (20,310-foot) Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, dominates the park’s 6 million acres of glacial streams, river valleys, and multicoloured tundra. After a short orientation tour of Denali, the afternoon is free to explore on your own.

Day 11: Denali National Park

A free day for independent activities. A hike along the many wilderness trails might be good fun. Also take advantage of several optional outings, including a wildlife tour to seek out grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and Dall sheep; a raft trip down the Nenana River; or a helicopter ride over the park. Your Tour Director will have plenty of other suggestions.

Day 12: Denali National Park – Depart Anchorage

Relish one last look at the outstanding scenery and wildlife of Denali before travelling south toward Anchorage. Stop along the way at the Iditarod Headquarters, home of the great dogsled race. The motorcoach continues to Anchorage and the Dimond Centre for guests extending their stay in Alaska. For guests with homebound flights, the trip ends at Anchorage International Airport. However, with possible delays for weather, we strongly suggest that guests do not book flights prior to 5 pm.
