California here we come. You’ll be picked up at San Francisco International Airport and whisked straight to your upscale hotel. Join your Travel Director and fellow travellers at 18:00 for a Welcome Dinner with wine.

Get ready for a fun-filled day exploring the city. Hop aboard an iconic cable car for a ride along the picturesque streets. Visit the Cable Car Museum in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Afterwards, take in the city with a few photo stops. Visit the Conservatory of Flowers and Golden Gate Park, before walking across the emblematic Golden Gate Bridge and travelling on to the city of Sausalito. A scenic ferry ride will bring you back to San Francisco, where the rest of your day is at leisure. Your Travel Director is on hand to make suggestions for making the most of your evening.

Today you’ll witness the mountainous scenery of Yosemite National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelling through California’s Gold Country, you’ll drive through the imposing Sierra Nevada mountains. Explore spectacular waterfalls and striking rock formations of El Capitan and Half Dome on a private, ranger-led valley floor tour. Rest up on your free evening at your lodge, located inside the park and close to Yosemite Falls, North America’s highest waterfall. On a clear evening you’ll be able to take in the sparkling night sky over the park.

Leave Yosemite behind as you take in the Sierras before you are swept through the fertile San Joaquin Valley, also known as the “food basket of the world”. Stop at the Merced Fruit Barn which features its diverse produce. In Salinas, the heart of “The Salad Bowl of the World”, enjoy a famer’s agricultural tour of a local farm, known for heirloom artichokes. Once in Monterey you’ll head to your hotel situated on the waterfront street Cannery Row.

Today you’ll journey to Carmel-by-the-Sea, a quaint seaside community where you’ll have ample free time. As you travel along Pacific Coast Highway, enjoy a relaxing drive across the Monterey Peninsula and along 17-Mile Drive. Stop at Pebble Beach and its world-renowned links, as well as Lone Cypress and Seal and Bird Rocks for a glimpse of sunbathing seals and sea lions. A Dine-Around Evening awaits upon your return to Monterey, with your choice of three local restaurants.

Day 6: The American Riviera

Head on to sunny Santa Barbara. Along the way, experience a guided tour and wine tasting served at a Paso Robles winery. On arrival, Santa Barbara greets you with its white buildings, terracotta roofs, beautiful weather and an array of bars and restaurants. Walk along Santa Barbara’s Historic State Street to Stearns Wharf. In the evening, dinner awaits at a local restaurant.

Visit iconic Mission Santa Barbara, before making your way to Santa Monica and Venice. A Local Expert will take you on a walking tour of Venice Beach, Muscle Beach, the Canals and Walkways and explain Abbot Kinney’s role in the development of the ‘Venice of America’. Continue on to your modern L.A. hotel, in the city’s entertainment district.

Explore Los Angeles with your Travel Director. Experience a bit of nostalgia in Downtown as you ride aboard the lovingly restored Angel’s Flight Railway. Visit Hollywood and Highland, where observation decks allow for the best views of the Hollywood sign. See the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre as you walk along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Once in Scottsdale you can relax in the hotel after a long day and replenish for your upcoming adventures.

Journey north to the bohemian colony of Sedona. Attractive to healers, this spiritual town’s vortexes are rumoured to offer alternative medicines and practices. Journey on to Grand Canyon National Park, where you have the opportunity to take an optional, once-in-a-lifetime, flightseeing tour by helicopter or plane. Join a Local Expert for an informative talk about the wonders of the Grand Canyon before ending your day with a tranquil night inside the park and an appetizing Highlight Dinner with wine in the inviting Thunderbird Room of your lodge. Hear about Navajo heritage from your guide and more about life on their beautiful land. Later today, you’ll stop by the Glen Canyon Dam where you’ll learn about its history and impact on the Colorado River, before arriving at your lakefront resort. Your morning is at leisure. Simply relax and enjoy the resort’s facilities or enjoy some extra time to catch up with your fellow travellers. Later today, a serene cruise through the narrow sandstone turns of Antelope Canyon awaits. End the day with a breathtaking sunset from your lake view or marina view room.

Prepare for a day of Norse legend, as you head to the sandstone cliffs of Bryce Canyon National Park in Southern Utah. Here you will be met by pine trees, red rock pillars and Thor’s hammer. You’ll take a leisurely walk along Sunset Point to view the great amphitheatres of the odd-shaped monoliths, known as hoodoos, before travelling through more amazing scenery to the lush cliff-and-canyon landscape of Zion National Park. A day of sightseeing deserves some evening festivities. Today you’ll travel to Utah’s capital, Salt Lake City, where you’ll spend the night. Lying between Wasatch Range and the Great Salt Lake, this mountainous city is perfect for outdoorsy types, with a strong focus on skiing and fishing. It is also the headquarters of the Mormon faith.

As you move on from Salt Lake City, take in iconic Temple Square and the State Capitol building, before heading north across the Oregon Trail to historic Jackson. Have your cameras ready for the famous elk antlers that adorn the central square, and for eager shoppers there are a number of charming traditional boutiques to browse. In the evening, relax at Jackson Lake Lodge, where you’ll be presented with the stunning peaks of Grand Teton National Park. Staying in the park itself, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the grounds after hours.

Wake up to a mountainous view like no other and witness the striking Grand Tetons thrust skyward 6,562 feet (2,000 metres) from the valley floor. In keeping with today’s rustic country charm, you’ll enter Yellowstone, the world’s first National Park. Known for its unique geothermal activity, spectacular landscapes and abundant wildlife, you’ll experience Wyoming in all its glory. Keep an eye out for black bears or wolves. Tonight you’ll stay in the National Park Lodges, allowing you to experience the park after hours, in its natural glory.

Savour the surreal surroundings of Yellowstone with a relaxed start. Walk among the rainbow tinted hot springs and watch the erupting geysers as you take in the history of the park on an informative stroll with your Travel Director. Catch the renowned colourful bubbling mud pots and observe Old Faithful geyser shooting water over 120 feet (37 metres) into the air. You’ll behold the powerful roar of Lower Yellowstone Falls, before heading back to your Park Lodge rooms. The National Park is also famous for its wildlife, so keep an eye out for the Yellowstone ram, wolves, bears and elk.

Set off on your travels through the stark Shoshone Canyon and Absaroka Rocky Mountains to the Wild West Town of Cody. Learn more about America’s great Western legends at the Buffalo Bill Centre, known for its Western art collection, firearms and natural history. End the day in Clearmont, Wyoming where you’ll check in to your abode for the night. Here you’ll enjoy an All-American ranch style Highlight Dinner with wine.

Live the American frontier dream and begin your day with a scenic country horseback ride (8). If playing cowboy isn’t your thing, perhaps go fishing or merely relax and take in your beautiful surroundings, the choice is yours. Make your way to Devils Tower, an astounding geological feature that protrudes out of the surrounding the Black Hills. This symbolic landmark is considered sacred to the Lakota and other tribes. Experience Spearfish Canyon, a favoured spot among wildlife enthusiasts and one famous for its elvish woodland beauty. The limestone palisades of this creek-carved gorge are more ancient than the Grand Canyon.

A day for those looking to explore the wild west, try to spot pronghorn antelope as you cross the great high plains to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Once in Deadwood, you’ll also get to speak to members of the Lakota tribe as they share a fascinating live narrative of the Great Sioux Nation. You’ll have the opportunity to join Kevin Costner’s Original Deadwood Tour, while a Local Expert will talk about the days of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, who made this once lawless town famous during the Gold Rush of the 1870s. Continue on to Custer State Park, renowned for its beautiful landscape and abundant wildlife.

What better way to spend your last full day than delving further into the history of this fascinating country? The heart of the Black Hills offers spectacular representations of the nation’s past. You’ll start by viewing Crazy Horse Memorial, which is dedicated to all Native Americans. An exclusive Insight Experience awaits as you are taken up to the 641 feet (195 metres) long and 563 feet (172 metres) tall sculpture to stand face to face with the world’s largest mountain carving. Afterwards, travel to iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Here, carvings of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt overlook the landscape. The rest of the day is yours to explore in Custer State Park. Join your Travel Director and newfound friends for a Celebration Dinner with wine, as you reflect on your adventure across the wide-open spaces of America’s national parks.

Travel south from Custer State Park where your trip ends on arrival in Denver. A transfer is available to Denver International Airport. Airport arrival in Denver will be at 16:30.

Day 1: Arrive San Francisco

The City by the Bay greets you today. You’ll have the day to ease into its laidback, friendly vibe before joining your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception this evening.

Day 2: San Francisco

See the highlights of one of America’s favorite cities including: Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach, Union Square and The Presidio. A free afternoon to explore everything that San Francisco has to offer. Perhaps opt to take a walk across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge followed by a visit to trendy Sausalito or maybe hop on a bay cruise circling around famous Alcatraz Island. The evening is free to take in the city’s diverse dining scene. Or maybe join the optional Chinatown Walking Tour, dinner at a Chinatown restaurant, cable car ride, and evening Illuminations tour.

Day 3: San Francisco – Monterey

Travel Pacific Coast Highway past the resort town of Half Moon Bay before arriving at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park featuring a 40-acre grove of towering old-growth redwood trees. This afternoon a lunch treat that is pure California. In-n-Out Burger was founded back in 1947 and was California’s first drive-thru hamburger stand. Enjoy their iconic double-double burger with fries and a milk shake. Get educated about organic produce during a private farm tour in Salinas Valley which is considered “the Salad Bowl of the World”.

Day 4: Monterey Sightseeing

This morning we enjoy perhaps the world’s most scenic 17-mile drive through Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. Hug the Pacific Coastline with views of famous Spyglass Hill and Cypress Point golf courses, and we will make a stop at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Get your cameras ready for a shot of the Lone Cypress, the iconic symbol of 17-mile drive. Visit Mission Carmel which is the 2nd of California’s 21 Spanish Missions which dates back to 1797. Enjoy some time in quaint Carmel-By-The-Sea, a town of 4,000 with a rich arts history. Clint Eastwood served as the town’s Mayor after being elected in 1986. The afternoon is free to explore popular Cannery Row. Perhaps wander over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium or opt to take a whale watching excursion on Monterey Bay. Covering an entire 3 ½ city blocks, thousands of people flock to the weekly market featuring produce from all over Central California, arts and crafts, dozens of international food vendors, and a lineup of live music.

Day 5: Monterey – Paso Robles

Today features America’s most unforgettable drive, 90 miles of Pacific Coast Highway 1 between Carmel and San Simeon. Travel through Big Sur passing over the famous Bixby Bridge and admire the towering mountains on one side of PCH and the crashing Pacific Ocean on the other. This afternoon join a local expert for a walking tour of Hearst Castle, the grandiose vision of publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst. The massive home features 121 total rooms scattered over 90,000 square feet and is designated as National Historic Landmark. Later today arrive into Paso Robles where laid-back cowboy-country meets one of the country’s best wine regions. This evening head towards the town’s historic square for a regional dinner with wine.

Day 6: Paso Robles Sightseeing

This morning link up with a Paso Robles resident and Local Expert for a walking tour of the historic downtown corridor. Learn about the city’s connection to their thermal hot springs, the almond industry that once dominated the city, and why its quaint city square was chosen as the backdrop for a Christmas Hallmark movie. Join the mother-daughter duo of Karen and Jennifer Talent at the Groves on 41 Olive Oil Ranch where they host a Be My Guest feast featuring their award-winning olive oil in the different lunch dishes, even the ice cream! This afternoon visit Eberle Winery, where the founder Gary Eberle is considered one of the legends of the Paso Robles wine region. In addition to a tasting of their red and white wines, you’ll have the chance to tour the winery’s underground caves. “After the sun sets visit Sensorio Light Field featuring 58,000 optic lights on a 15-acre field. Day 7: Paso Robles – Los Angeles

Arrive into the affluent beachside town of Santa Barbara, often referred to as the “American Riviera”. There will be plenty of time to wander trendy State Street. Considered the heart of Santa Barbara, the area is known for its great shopping, top-notch restaurants and incredible architecture. This afternoon arrive into world-famous Beverly Hills – the playground of the rich and famous, home to some of the world’s priciest real estate, and the epitome of American luxury.

Day 8: Los Angeles

This morning join a Local Expert for a walking tour of one of the most famous streets on the planet, Rodeo Drive. Learn the real stories behind some of the most expensive stores in the world. Visit Hollywood, the epicenter of America’s movie industry. See the Walk of Fame, the handprints at Grauman’s Theatre, and the iconic Hollywood Sign. Finish off your day in Los Angeles with a Your Choice Sightseeing of museums.

Your Choice of Sightseeing: Enjoy your choice of sightseeing. Visit the car collections at the Peterson Automotive or explore the movie industry at the Academy of Motion Pictures. This evening join your fellow travelers for a festive Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 9: Los Angeles – San Diego

After sightseeing in Los Angeles, say goodbye to your Travel Director and newfound friends before hopping on Amtrak’s Surfliner Train at Union Station in Los Angeles. Kick back and relax on your journey to San Diego. Travel through Orange County as the train moves closer to the coast and then hug the Pacific Ocean as you make your way into “America’s Finest City” of San Diego.

Day 10: San Diego Sightseeing

Day 4: Scottsdale – Sedona – Grand Canyon National Park

Journey to the artists’ enclave of Sedona – your rocky red gateway to an unforgettable encounter with the epic natural beauty of Oak Creek Canyon. We arrive at the UNESCO-listed Grand Canyon this afternoon where we’ll meet a Local Specialist who will share insights into the canyon’s geological marvels. Watch how the light plays on its layered cliffs and peer down into its depths to see the Colorado River as you skirt the South Rim.

Day 5: Grand Canyon National Park – Las Vegas

We leave the world’s largest canyon behind and head towards the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, where we’ll spend the next two nights. The Entertainment Capital of the World blooms in the midst of the desert and you’ll have an opportunity to explore it over the next two nights.

Day 6: Las Vegas Free Time

Shrug off the shackles of responsibility and embrace fun and games in the city that never sleeps. Break the bank at one of the casinos, enjoy some retail therapy or have lunch at one of the city’s larger-than-life restaurants. This evening, we enjoy one of the elaborate Regional Dinner buffets for which Las Vegas is renowned.

Day 7: Las Vegas – Mammoth Lakes

We leave Sin City behind, travelling through the vast arid landscapes of the Mojave Desert, to Mammoth Lakes, an outdoor adventure playground amidst the rolling peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Enjoy an evening at leisure. (Weather conditions may cause the Tioga Pass to be closed to traffic, typically from mid October to the end of May. In this case, an alternate overnight city and entry point to Yosemite will be used.)

Day 8: Mammoth Lakes – Yosemite National Park

Descend from the Sierra Nevada Mountains through stunning Tioga Pass (seasonal) and enter UNESCO-listed Yosemite National Park. We journey through Yosemite Valley, admiring the natural wonders of Bridal Veil, Yosemite Falls and El Capitan’s imposing granite cliffs. Spend the rest of the day delving into the natural history, flora and fauna of one of the world’s oldest national parks.

Day 9: Yosemite National Park – Napa and Sonoma Valleys – San Francisco

We head north to Northern California’s original wine country this morning, past Napa and on to Sonoma, where we’ll ‘Dive into Culture’ and visit a family-owned winery for an exclusive tour and wine tasting. A short journey down the coast sees us arrive in San Francisco. Travel beneath the glowing orange arches of the Golden Gate Bridge into “The City”, where you’ll enjoy a Regional Dinner with your fellow travellers this evening.

Day 10: San Francisco Sightseeing

Embark on an exploration of San Francisco and its iconic sights, from Fisherman’s Wharf to Golden Gate Park. Indulge in the Bay Area’s best artisan foods and fresh farm produce, then spend the rest of the afternoon discovering the city’s cosmopolitan neighbourhoods, including the largest Chinese enclave outside Asia.

Day 11: San Francisco – Monterey

A leisurely start to our morning sees us enjoy a final encounter with San Francisco, before continuing along the rugged, remote Pacific coastline to Monterey where we’ll ‘Connect with Locals’ for a ‘Be My Guest’ dinner crafted from the freshest farm-to-table local ingredients.

Day 12: Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea Sightseeing

Admire the inspiring natural scenery as you continue along the iconic 17-Mile Drive, past the Lone Cypress Tree and Pebble Beach Golf Links. We will stop by the Carmel Mission and then the rest of the day is free to explore Monterey’s strong coastal heritage. Visit the historic waterfront district and Cannery Row, immortalised by the John Steinbeck novel bearing the same name – the choice is yours.

Day 13: Monterey – Santa Barbara

Day 1: Arrive Las Vegas

Begin your exploration of California’s national parks in Las Vegas. This evening, meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception at The LINQ. In the evening you will find yourself soaring 550 feet above the center of the Las Vegas Strip on the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel.

Day 2: Las Vegas – Death Valley National Park – Mammoth Lakes

Immerse yourself in the solitude and desolation of Death Valley-UNESCO World Heritage Site and barren, yet unexpectedly lively land of extremes which we will have an opportunity to explore for part of today. Admire scenic views of the undulating rocky landscape at Zabriskie Point and learn about the valley’s unique geological features, history and intriguing weather patterns. Descend below sea level to the Badwater Basin. After lunch at 1849 Buffet at The Ranch at Death Valley, we continue through the desert landscape of Death Valley ascending to Mammoth Lakes, our home for the night.

Day 3: Mammoth Lakes – Yosemite National Park

Take a scenic Gondola ride to the peak of Mammoth Mountain and enjoy the stunning views while you enjoy a tasty breakfast. Touch the clouds through the Tioga Pass (seasonal) and enter the UNESCO-listed Yosemite National Park. Driving past Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows, we journey to Yosemite Valley where we’ll embark on a special valley floor tour. View Yosemite Valley’s El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks, and Bridal Veil Falls. Our ‘Stay with a Story’ tonight exudes a cosy, ski-lodge atmosphere and is located just a stone’s throw from Yosemite Falls.

Day 4: Yosemite Free Time

Explore the Yosemite National Park today, famed for its giant, ancient sequoia trees and grand meadows, there is plenty to explore here. Join a Local Specialist Park Ranger to delve into the natural history, flora and fauna, and people who found sanctuary in these tranquil emerald-green surrounds over the centuries. Our tour takes us out to view Yosemite Valley’s El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks, and Bridal Veil Falls. The rest of the day is free to go for a walk or hike and take in the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite.

Day 5: Yosemite National Park – Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Stretch your legs in Kings Canyon and gaze towards the sky as you greet the giant boughs of General Grant Tree Enjoy a birds-eye view of the Kings Canyon before you continue along the Majestic Mountain Loop. Towering redwood trunks frame your journey to Sequoia National Park, where we’ll spend the night in our ‘Stay with a Story’ surrounded by forest and soaring Sierra peaks. Spend the evening gazing upwards at the star-spangled sky as a naturalist and Local Specialist guides you through the constellations.

Day 6: Sequoia National Park Excursion

Tread in the footsteps of giants, walking beneath the soaring sequoia canopy to see first-hand the world’s largest living tree, General Sherman. Learn about the Giant Forest and its history during a stop at the Giant Forest Museum, then enjoy a leisurely walk along the Big Trees Trail, connecting with the invigorating natural surrounds. Immerse yourself in the pioneer history of the Old West, joining a living-history reenactor and Local Specialist for a barbecue lunch and stories of early life in the mountains. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the park on your terms, using the complimentary shuttle system (seasonal).

Day 7: Sequoia National Park – Los Angeles

Travel to Los Angeles, where you’ll stroll down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, considered America’s epicenter of luxury, fashion and lifestyle. As our invigorating encounter with California’s epic natural beauty comes to an end, we join your Travel Director and newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner.

Highlights of Route 66

Follow legendary Route 66 and see how Americans travelled from the 1920’s through the 1960’s. This historic route begins in Chicago, travels through eight states, and ends in Los Angeles. On this Route 66 tour, you’ll get the opportunity to travel to some of the cities along Route 66, visit many of the Route 66 museums, and step back in time to when the journey was part of the fun.

Day 1: Arrive Chicago

Welcome to Chicago, the start of Route 66! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer questions.

Day 2: Chicago

Known as the “Windy City,” Chicago is home to one of America’s tallest buildings, legends such as Al Capone and his notorious gang, and countless jazz and blues clubs. Get to know this exciting city on a morning sightseeing tour that includes the sign marking the start of historic Route 66. This afternoon is at leisure. Ride the elevator to the top of the Willis Tower, formally known as the Sears Tower, explore The Magnificent Mile, or stroll along Navy Pier.

Day 3: Chicago – Pontiac – Springfield

This morning, immerse yourself in Route 66 memorabilia. Visit the Route 66 Hall Of Fame & Museum in Pontiac, housed in a historic fire station. See the large maps that will sketch out your Route 66 adventure for the coming days, and enjoy the nostalgic photos and postcards from the “Mother Road’s” heyday. On to Springfield and the former home of President Abraham Lincoln. Visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

Day 4: Springfield – St. Louis

Cross the mighty Mississippi River and continue to St. Louis, “Gateway to the West.” Your orientation tour includes the towering Gateway Arch National Park. Ride to the top of the 193 metre( 630 foot) tall Arch for a panoramic view of the city and river.

Day 5: St. Louis – Branson

Today, we travel through the Missouri countryside, then on to Branson, one of America’s biggest music centres. Your Tour Director will make suggestions for independent exploration.

Day 6: Branson – Arcadia – Oklahoma City

This morning, leave the Ozarks and travel through America’s “Bible Belt” into Cowboy Country. After a quick drive through Kansas, enter Oklahoma, once known as Indian Territory. In Arcadia, on historic Route 66, visit POPS landmark diner and gas station. Later today, arrive in Oklahoma City.

Day 7: Oklahoma City – Elk City –  Amarillo

Start the day with a city sightseeing tour of Oklahoma City, the capital and largest city in Oklahoma. From here, travel to Elk City and visit the National Route 66 Museum. Take a journey through each of the eight states Route 66 passes through – from Illinois all the way to California. Continue into Texas and on to Amarillo, the Yellow Rose of Texas.

Day 8: Amarillo – Tucumcari –  Albuquerque

On the way out of Amarillo, see Cadillac Ranch, a quirky art sculpture consisting of a collection of 10 Cadillacs. Before crossing into New Mexico, reach Adrian, the halfway point on Route 66. Across the New Mexico border, visit Russell’s Car Museum, featuring classic cars and memorabilia. Next, stop in Tucumcari and shop for souvenirs at Teepee Curios. See the neon signs of the Blue Swallow Motel that has been serving travellers of Route 66 since 1939. Visit Central Avenue in Albuquerque, where many of the original Route 66 buildings and businesses still stand. Afterward, there’s free time in this original Spanish town with its fine parish church and Spanish – style plaza.

Day 9: Albuquerque

This morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast or sunbathe in the New Mexico sunshine. Consider a short walk to Old Town, site of the city’s original settlement. Hone your bargaining skills with the local craftsmen who line the square to sell their lovely silver and turquoise jewellery. After exploring more of this atmospheric city, seize the chance to ride the world’s longest aerial tramway up nearby Sandia Peak Mountain and witness spine – tingling views of the desert floor, forests, and canyons below.

Day 10: Albuquerque – Acoma Sky City – Gallup – Winslow – Williams

This morning, visit Acoma Sky City, home of the Pueblo Indians, situated on 112 metre (367 – foot) high sandstone rock. It is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited village in the United States. Learn about this community and its inhabitants, and peruse Acoma pottery and jewellery. Then, cross the Continental Divide and continue to Gallup, which claims a longtime Hollywood connection. From classic westerns to the more recent adventures of Superman, the area has provided unequaled movie scenery. The next two nights are in Williams, gateway to the Grand Canyon, and listed in the National Register for Historic Places. The Historic Downtown District covers six square blocks and boasts a rich heritage that features the Old West and Route 66.

Day 11: Williams – Excursion to Grand Canyon National Park

Deviate from Route 66 to see one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Grand Canyon National Park. Wander along the canyon rim for breathtaking views and wildlife. Elk are frequently spotted grazing in the forested areas on the South Rim. Perhaps join the optional helicopter flightseeing tour? Return to Williams where the evening is free to explore the historic Americana – style shops and restaurants dating back to the early 1900s, and home of Pete’s Route 66 Gas Station Museum, featuring highway memorabilia. Be sure to appreciate the neon signs of the intact circa 1940s “Motel Row.”

Day 12: Williams – Seligman – Las Vegas

Depart Williams for Seligman, home to the rebirth of Route 66. Detour once again from Route 66 to visit the bright lights and excitement of Las Vegas. An orientation tour upon arrival shows off many of the themed casino resorts along the colourful “Strip.” This evening, join an optional night at a dazzling show featuring top Vegas entertainment.

Day 13: Las Vegas

A day at leisure to relax by the pool or explore the world – renowned Las Vegas Strip. Ride the world’s highest rollercoaster, float through a Venetian canal, or see man – eating sharks up close – it’s all possible in Las Vegas. Don’t miss downtown Las Vegas, where you’ll find the Fremont Street Experience, five city blocks enclosed in a glass atrium and filled with dazzling lights, sounds, and action. A variety of optional excursions are available, including a float trip through dramatic Black Canyon on the Colorado River.

Day 14: Las Vegas – Barstow – Los Angeles

Today, depart the man – made oasis of Las Vegas and cross the Mojave Desert and the San Bernardino Mountains en route to Los Angeles. Visit the Barstow Route 66 Museum, which displays a collection of historic photographs and artifacts related to Route 66 and the Mojave Desert communities. Overnight in Los Angeles, the “City of Angels.”

Day 15: Los Angeles

Join an exciting morning tour of the glamorous side of L.A. in Beverly Hills, the Sunset Strip, Hollywood, and Santa Monica, the ending point of Route 66. Return to Los Angeles where the rest of the day is yours to shop for souvenirs or relax by the pool.

Day 16: Depart Los Angeles

Day 2: Los Angeles

This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of “Tinseltown” that takes you from Olvera Street to Hollywood where you can step into the shoeprints of famous movie stars at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Also see Beverly Hills and the Sunset Strip, known for nearly 100 years of free expression and escapism. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the “City of Angels” on your own.

Day 3: Los Angeles – Catalina Island – San Diego

This morning, travel to the coast and board a high – speed Ferry for beautiful Catalina Island. Located just 35 kilometres (22 miles) off the coast of southern California, the island has a rich and colourful past. On an island Tour, you’ll learn the history of this unique place and admire beautiful scenery. Afterward, there is time to explore the village of Avalon on your own, shop for unique island gifts or enjoy a delicious lunch at a seaside restaurant. Later, Ferry back to the mainland and continue south along the stunning California coast to San Diego for an evening at leisure.

Day 4: San Diego

Today, enjoy a city sightseeing tour featuring Old Town, Balboa Park, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter. End your tour in Coronado, home to beautiful beaches and elegant mansions. Lunch will be served at the historic Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego’s legendary seaside resort. The resort, known by locals as “the Del” celebrates a rich heritage as the proud host to celebrities, royalty, and U.S. Presidents. After lunch, take a scenic Ferry back to San Diego where your afternoon is free for exploration. You may wish to relive history on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, spend time at Mission Beach, or do some window shopping in one of the city’s neighbourhood shopping districts. Day 5: San Diego – Temecula – Palm Springs

Today, travel east stopping in picturesque Temecula for a tasting of some of the region’s best wines at a local Vineyard. Continue to the desert playground and mid – century architecture mecca of Palm Springs. Take the Palm Springs Aerial Tram to the top of Mount San Jacinto for amazing views of the valley below. Then, hear tales of the town’s famous celebrity residents, past and present, and of the city’s colourful past on an orientation tour.

Day 6: Palm Springs – Excursion to Joshua Tree National Park

Adventure awaits today in the Mojave Desert as we explore the fascinating landscape of Joshua Tree National Park. The park contains more than 700,000 acres, two deserts, two ecosystems. This unique habitat is also home to the ancient Joshua trees; twisted, spiky trees that oddly soar in all directions skyward. See the park on a JEEP TOUR and learn about the area’s rich history, as well as the geology, flora, and fauna of the California desert. Return to Palm Springs, where the remainder of the day is yours. Relax by your hotel’s pool, stroll the Palm Springs Walk of Fame, or join the locals at the popular VillageFest, offering more than 200 booths of beautiful art, hanDCrafted items, and unique food.

Day 7: Palm Springs – Barstow – Death Valley National Park

Leave the desert oasis of Palm Springs and travel to Barstow, located on the famed Route 66. Take a step back in time with a visit to the Route 66 Mother Road Museum, home to vintage cars, signs, photos, and other memorabilia. Continue to Death Valley National Park, an International Dark Sky Park, the hottest and driest place on earth, and the lowest elevation in North America. Spend the next two nights at the energetic resort, the Ranch at Death Valley.

After dinner this evening, enjoy a Stargazing Program with a local expert. Due to its vast area and absence of man – made light, Death Valley National Park is the world’s largest International Dark Sky Park and one of the best places to star gaze. Stand in awe as daylight fades and the planets, stars, and constellations come into view.

Day 9: Death Valley National Park – Ash Meadows National Refuge – Las Vegas

A morning stop is made at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, a desert oasis with a rare and unique ecosystem. The refuge is home to nearly 30 species of plants and animals that do not exist anywhere else on earth, including desert fish that have existed since the time of the mammoths. Stroll the boardwalks and learn about the early pioneers and the mysterious Devils Hole. Continue on to the bright lights of Las Vegas for a brief orientation tour. Your Tour Director hosts a festive farewell dinner this evening – the perfect ending to your holiday.

Descend into the 1220 metre (4,000 – foot) valley, where you’ll board an open – air Tram to explore the famous sites of El Capitan, Cathedral Spires, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome. Day 5: Yosemite National Park – Monterey

Before departing Yosemite National Park, visit Mariposa Grove, home to 500 mature sequoias. Stand in awe as you look skyward at these massive giants, the Earth’s largest and longest living organisms. Day 8: Solvang – Santa Barbara – Los Angeles

After breakfast, enjoy coffee and a Danish Specialty at a local bakery. Then, travel through the Santa Ynez Mountains to beautiful Santa Barbara, where the Spanish influence is apparent in quaint whitewashed and tile – roofed buildings. Visit the impressive 200 – year – old Mission on a guided tour to learn about its history and the world famous twin bell towers. Continue to metropolitan Los Angeles, the motion picture capital of the world.

Day 9: Los Angeles

Morning sightseeing of this gigantic metropolis takes you from Olvera Street – the oldest thoroughfare in the city – to Hollywood. Step into the shoeprints of famous movie stars at TCL Chinese Theatre, and see the Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills. Later, visit the Getty Museum, housing a collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present. This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale for your holiday.

Day 10: Depart Los Angeles

The tour ends this morning after breakfast with guests departing on individual schedules.
