Day 1: Arrive In Oslo, Norway

Welcome to Oslo! At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 2: Oslo

Today gives you a good introduction to Oslo, the country’s hub of trade and industry. Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the National Theater, considered the home for Ibsen’s plays; the unique Storting building, seat of Parliament; and the Royal Palace, residence of Norwegian monarchs since 1849. Stroll through magnificent Frogner Park with Gustav Vigeland’s extraordinary sculptures; and visit the City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held each year. Afterwards, an optional excursion is available to see relics of Norway’s glorious seafaring past-including 1,000-year-old Viking ships!

Day 3: Oslo – Heddal – Vemork – Telemark

Start your tour of the land of fjords, lakes, mountains, thundering waterfalls, and gleaming glaciers with a visit of Heddal Stave Church, the largest of the country’s remaining medieval wooden churches. Follow the narrow Rjukan Valley via Lake Tinnsjo, where saboteurs sank a ferry loaded with heavy water, dashing Nazi hopes of winning the race for the atomic bomb. Next is Vemork, scene of the daring sabotage action celebrated in The Heroes of Telemark and recently registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn all about the dramatic events of 1943 from your Local Guide, and gain an insight into the technology of hydroelectric power generation, one of the pillars of Norway’s economy. Arrive in rustic, unspoiled Telemark.

Day 4: Telemark – Låtefoss – Hardangerfjord – Bergen

A day of scenic delights: the wild Hardangervidda mountain plateau, where Fridtjof Nansen prepared for his polar expeditions, and the thundering Latefoss twin-waterfall. Drive through the orchards along the tranquil splendour of Sorfjord, which inspired composer Edvard Grieg’s Morning Mood, and cross Hardangerfjord by Ferry. Meet the family that has owned the Steinsto Fruit Farm for eight generations and hear all about their history. Taste home-made apple juice and cider, and enjoy lunch. Continue to Bergen, known for its associations with the Hanseatic League. An orientation drive shows you the charming Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the harbour; and the famous Fish Market.

Day 5: Bergen – Voss – Stalheim

Time this morning to discover colourful Bergen and explore the narrow lanes of ancient Bryggen on your own. Later, travel toward the popular lakeside resort of Voss, where you can join an exciting optional Flam train ride. Arrive in Stalheim, overlooking the beautiful Naeroydalen Valley.

Day 6: Stalheim – Sognefjord & Naeroyfjord – Fjaerland – Loen

Start today with a relaxing CRUISE on spectacular Sognefjord and Naeroyfjord. Next, visit Fjaerland’s excellent Norwegian Glacier Museum and watch the spectacular Panorama Movie – 22 metres long and 5.5 metres high. Then marvel at Boyabreen, one of the branches that radiate from Jostedal Glacier into the surrounding valleys, and enjoy the rugged mountain scenery as you approach the tunnel underneath mainland Europe’s largest glacier. After pristine Lake Jolster and the Vatedalen Valley, follow the shoreline of the innermost branch of Nordfjord and arrive in peaceful Loen.

Day 7: Loen

Prepare for Norway’s latest spectacular tourism project: the Loen Skylift, a cable car that brings you from the fjord to the top of Mount Hoven (over 3,300 feet high) in just minutes. Time to enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake Lovatnet, Mount Skala, Jostedal Glacier, and the Nordfjord. Discover one of the hiking trails at your own pace.

Day 8: Loen – Geirangerfjord – Dalsnibba – Lom – Lillehammer

Head north via Lake Hornindal to Hellesylt to embark for a leisurely cruise on Geirangerfjord past the famous Seven Sisters cascade. Then, climb above the tree line to 5,000 feet for panoramic views from the Geiranger Skywalk, Mount Dalsnibba’s new platform above the fjord. Continue to Lom and take pictures of its lovely stave church. Drive through the wide Gudbrandsdal Valley, the lush dairy and timber land of Ibsen’s drama, Peer Gynt, and arrive in Lillehammer, proud host of the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Day 9: Lillehammer – Eidsvoll – Oslo

Start your day with a picture stop at the Olympic ski jump, followed by a guided walking tour of the unique Maihaugen Open-Air Museum, an encounter with Norway’s culture and history and a fascinating collection of houses and farmyards. Enjoy a comfortable drive along lovely Lake Mjosa to Eidsvoll, where the country’s democratic constitution was signed in 1814, before returning to Oslo. Tonight, celebrate the success of your journey with a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 1: Arrive In Stockholm, Sweden

Welcome to Stockholm! At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 2: Stockholm

During your sightseeing with a Local Guide see the Royal Palace; Riddarholm Church, walk through the Old Town, and marvel at the festive blue and gold chambers in the City Hall, where the annual Nobel Prize banquet is held.

Day 3: Stockholm – Copenhagen, Denmark

Drive south via Lake Malar and Lake Vattern to Helsingborg. Cross by Ferry to Denmark with views of Hamlet’s Kronborg Castle at Elsinore. Arrive in Copenhagen, proud capital of Denmark.

Day 4: Copenhagen – Overnight cruise to Oslo, Norway

Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes the Church of Our Savior and the Stock Exchange on the way to splendid Rosenborg Castle, where some of the crown jewels of Denmark are held. Here, admire the incredible Throne Chair, made from narwhal tusks-the only one of its kind in the world! Drive past the National Museum and the Royal Theater, and stop for pictures of Amalienborg Palace and the Little Mermaid statue. In the late afternoon, board your ship for the overnight Kattegat & Oslofjord Cruise to Norway. Dinner will be served on board.

Day 5: Oslo – Bergen

After disembarkation, transfer to the Oslo train station and board the famous Oslo-Bergen Train. Enjoy a scenic ride across the Hardangervidda mountain plateau with views of sparkling lakes, rivers, streams, and snow-capped mountains to picturesque Bergen.

Day 6: Bergen

Guided sightseeing starts with an orientation drive to see the main sights like Bergenhus Fortress with its medieval Hakon’s Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower, the charming Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the harbour, and the famous Fish Market. Explore Bryggen on foot along narrow, cobblestone alleyways past colourful wooden houses. Also see the 12th-century St. Mary’s Church, where Hanseatic merchants attended religious services until the 1870s. Day 7: Bergen – Voss – Flåm – Nærøyfjord & Sognefjord – Stalheim

A wonderful day of spectacular scenery: ride the Flam Train and see the magnificent Kjosfossen waterfall on the way to the village of Flam. Here, another highlight awaits: a relaxing CRUISE on beautiful Sognefjord and Naeroyfjord. Arrive in Stalheim, overlooking the Naeroydalen Valley.

Day 8: Stalheim – Borgund – Oslo

This morning travel to Borgund and visit the wooden Stave Church. Dating back to 1180, it is considered the best-preserved and most authentic of Norway’s stave churches. Next is Oslo, capital of Norway and the country’s hub of trade and industry.

Day 9: Oslo

Board the plane to Tromso and arrive in the world’s most northern university city, starting point of many great polar explorers. Here, winters can be hard and summers usually surprisingly warm because of the warm gulf currents and the “Midnight Sun.” During your orientation, visit the Arctic Cathedral.

Day 11: Tromsø – Alta

Continue your journey northward. Enjoy Ferry Crossings on Ullsfjord and Lyngenfjord, with breathtaking views of the Lyngen Alps and their glaciers. Arrive in Alta, and visit the spectacular Rock Carvings, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 12: Alta – Excursion to the North Cape – Honningsvåg

Drive to Honningsvag on the island of Mageroya, and continue to the northernmost point of the North Cape, a sheer cliff rising 1,000 feet from the Atlantic Ocean, where the North Cape Hall with its visitor centre is located.

Day 13: Honningsvåg – Karasjok – Ivalo, Finland

Admire crystal-clear streams, sparkling lakes, tundra, and forests as you head south and penetrate deep into beautiful Lapland, as it is called by the natives. Stop in Karasjok, seat of the Sami Parliament, where a highlight visit is included to Sven Engholm’s Husky Farm. Sven has led expeditions to Spitsbergen, Siberia, and Greenland, and won the longest sled dog race in Europe 11 times. Enjoy traditional snacks here, then continue to the Sami village of Ivalo for your overnight stay.

Day 14: Ivalo – Arctic Circle – Rovaniemi

Cross the Arctic Circle (66°31’N), and stop at Santa Claus Village, with a chance to see Father Christmas himself. Receive your Arctic Circle Certificate and continue to nearby Rovaniemi, capital of Lapland, situated at the confluence of the river Kemijoki and its tributary, the Ounasjoki. On an orientation drive, see the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto’s Town Hall, the City Library, and the Lappia House.

Day 15: Rovaniemi – Helsinki

Spend some time in Rovaniemi before flying to the capital of Finland, Helsinki. This evening, dinner will be served at one of Helsinki’s fine restaurants.

Day 16: Helsinki

Guided sightseeing introduces you to the City Hall and the Parliament House, the Presidential Palace, the monumental railroad station, the great Lutheran Cathedral, the Olympic Stadium, the Sibelius Monument, and Helsinki’s local arts and crafts Open-Air Market.

Day 17: Helsinki

A full day at leisure offers the opportunity to join an optional excursion to Tallinn, capital of Estonia, known as one of the “Pearls of the Baltic Countries.” Tonight, dinner awaits at the hotel to celebrate the success of your journey.
