Day 1: Arrive Rio de Janeiro

Touchdown in Rio de Janeiro, known as cidade maravilhosa (the marvellous city), steamy, sensuous, ever-surprising. Rio is full of contrasts of colour, customs and dazzling scenery. A city of sea and mountains, samba and Carnival. Witness the people of Rio who enjoy a truly relaxed and unique way of life. On arrival, meet your A&K representative who will assist you with your private transfer to your beachfront accommodation. Spend time relaxing in the hotel or head out on your own and explore. Get your bearings in this impossibly fabulous city, with its curving white beaches and city neighbourhoods studded with green-shrouded mountains.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro

Witness one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, Corcovado’s Christ the Redeemer. Gaze skywards at the sandstone figure towering 38 metres into the air, with arms pointing north and south, and breathe in sweeping views of the city rightly considered a UNESCO World Heritage site. Drive back to your hotel via the Maracanã stadium and famous Sambadrome, home to the annual Carnival parade. Your afternoon is at leisure to simply soak up the atmosphere from your beachfront home.  Or continue to discover why this is truly one of the world’s most vibrant cities. Navigate the streets by bicycle, taking in the hotspots of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon and Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon (additional charge), or visit the Botanical Gardens, one of the world’s most important ecological sanctuaries, at the foot of Corcovado Mountain (additional charge). Alternatively, head to the bohemian Santa Teresa neighbourhood on Morro do Desterro (Exile Hill) for a taste of Old Rio. Take to the hills in a charming street car, seek out art studios and bars, and stop at the “Little Castle” (additional charge).

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro

Begin your day hovering over Sugar Loaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer and the golden beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana on a helicopter flight over the city (additional charge). Then, step backstage into the captivating world of Rio’s Carnival, witnessing the artistry and creation of the elaborate costumes and imaginative floats that culminate in the world’s most vibrant street party. You will also have the chance to try on one of the carnival costumes. Afterwards take a driving tour through local neighbourhoods to the base of the mountain. Enjoy the cable car ride to the summit for the best sunset views in the city and sundowners with a backdrop of the city lights twinkling through the sea mist.

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro – Iguazú Falls

Proceed to the airport for your flight to Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazilian side of the mighty Iguazú Falls. Your local A&K representative will meet you at the airport and assist with your private transfer. Drop your bags at the only hotel located within Brazil’s Iguassu National Park, just a short stroll from one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Descend into the canyon and soak up the vista of some 275 falls, before taking a glass elevator back to the top.  Later appreciate your exclusive access to this magnificent wonder when the park is closed to non-hotel guests. Witness rainbows of colour over this incredible force of nature or perhaps enjoy a champagne overlooking the falls in near solitude.

Day 5: Iguazú Falls

No visit to the Iguazú is complete without experiencing the falls from the Argentinian perspective, as today’s adventure will prove. Cross the bridge to Argentina and wander along the network of pathways around the endless sheath of water. Venture by train to the suspended platform at the very brink of the roaring ‘Garganta del Diablo’ waterfall (Devil’s Throat). Here, a motorboat awaits to take you up the Lower Iguazú River, through rapids into the roaring Garganta del Diablo canyon in the heart of the falls. Return to your accommodation or perhaps you may like to experience a helicopter flight (additional charge) over the Iguazú National Park for an unrivalled view of the waterfalls, Três Fronteiras (the meeting point of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay).

Day 6: Iguazú Falls – Salvador de Bahia

Head to the Iguassu Bird Park, an internationally recognised rescue and conservation centre, for a behind-the scenes experience where you get up close to rare birdlife. Continue to the airport for your flight to Salvador, once the magnificent capital of Portugal’s New World colony and today the country’s Afro-Brazilian jewel. Meet your A&K representative and transfer to the historic centre where you can unwind in your boutique accommodation. Spend your first evening immersed in Bahian heritage at the intimate Miguel Santana Theatre. In an explosion of drums, music and energy, the world-renowned Bahia Folklore Company will enact the dances of the gods in the Candomblé pantheon and the rhythmic martial art, the capoeira.

Day 7: Salvador de Bahia

To peel back the layers of this Brazilian enigma, start in Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest complex of colonial architecture in South America. During a walking tour wander the cobbled, hilly streets and stop awhile in the municipal square to soak up the city vibe. Take the Elevador Lacerda, a concrete-encased elevator, down to the lower, more modern Salvador where the air is filled with the aroma of acarajé, an African-inspired street food of sizzling shrimp-filled dumplings. Learn to drink like a local with a curated tasting of cachaça, the Brazilian sugar cane liquor followed by lunch inspired by a creative mix of Mediterranean and North Eastern cuisine. Day 8: Salvador de Bahia

Spend a morning soaking up the local culture in São Joaquim market, the largest market in Salvador. Wander the labyrinth of passageways filled with everything from fresh meat and fish to shoes and statues. Look out for coriander, limes, garlic, coconut milk and dendê palm oil – the ingredients of Bahia’s best-known dish, moqueca. Then, head to a local eatery where you discover how to prepare this rich seafood stew. Fuelled by Bahian inspiration, find your rhythm in an intriguing percussion demonstration and workshop. Pick up the cuica or berimbau drums and follow the local percussionist through a cacophony of beats and techniques.

Day 9: Depart Salvador de Bahia

Set off on a final stroll around this enchanting destination before your private transfer to the airport for your onward journey.

Capoeira Stopover (Salvador Da Bahia)

Full of spirit, music and traditions from Africa, Salvador da Bahia is the soul of Brazil. Often referred to just as ‘Bahia’, it is the third largest city in Brazil and stands on the magnificent Bahia de Todos los Santos, a sparkling bay dotted with 38 islands. Day 1: Arrive Rio de Janeiro

Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, transfer to your hotel where you will stay for three nights.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro

Explore Rio’s wonders in an open jeep and immerse yourself in this magnificent city, visiting Tijuca Forest, Corcovado, Sugar Loaf and the Botanic Gardens. Discover Tijuca Forest, known as the world’s largest urban forest, with its mix of nature and history. Ride to the top of the beautiful Corcovado Mountain, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer sits. Visit the world famous Sugar Loaf Mountain in the middle of the Guanabara Bay, which offers one of the most breathtaking views of the city.

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro

Today is yours to spend discovering Rio de Janeiro at your leisure. Perhaps join an optional jeep ride and discover one of the largest favela’s in Latin America, with around a 150,000 inhabitants. You’ll be able to see, hear and feel the rhythm and beat of the favela’s, the heart and soul of Brazil. Immerse yourself in the community by visiting local homes and schools and head to the headquarters of Rocinha’s samba school.

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro – Iguazu Falls 

Transfer to the airport for your flight to where you will stay for the next two nights. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore the Brazilian side of the falls. The Iguazu Falls are one of the planet’s natural wonders. Formed on the Iguazu River, the falls go down from an average height of 60 meters, while the face of the falls is 2,700 metres wide. The number of falls varies depending on the river’s outflow.

Day 5: Iguazu Falls 

Today you will have the opportunity to cross to the Argentinian side of the falls for amazing views back to the Brazilian side. Enjoy a walking trip of the falls followed by the famous Devil’s Throat Cataract.

Day 6: Iguazu Falls – Manaus 

Fly to Manaus in the heart of the Amazon. Manaus is the ideal start point for your Amazon adventure. Upon arrival into Manaus, you will be transferred to your jungle lodge where you will spend the next three nights. After enjoying a delicious dinner embark on a unique canoe adventure deep within the Amazon jungle in search of alligators which are also known as “caimans” by the locals.

Day 8: Amazon

Today you will be accompanied by a specialist guide who will lead you on a hike through the forest.

Day 9: Amazon

Travel by motorised canoe and witness one of the Amazon’s most fascinating natural wonders. Head to the ‘meeting of the waters’ where the Solimoes River and the Rio Negro converge to create the enormous Amazon River. The two rivers flow side by side for several kilometres and each maintains its own individual colouring before mixing. The crystal clear blue waters of the Solimoes River contrasts with the muddy waters of the Rio Negro and create a unique natural spectacle.

Day 10: Amazon – Manaus – Salvador 

Return to Manaus for your flight to Salvador where you will spend the next two nights in a traditional Pousada. A Pousada is an exclusive and often historic boutique hotel which provides an insight to the place, people and culture of the area.

Day 11: Salvador 

Discover Salvador on a walking excursion. This trip introduces you to Salvador, showing how the city has changed throughout the ages to become the Salvador of today. Starting out along the bay, you’ll work your way through Salvador’s tree-lined streets up to Pelourinho, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its spectacular and well preserved colonial architecture. Stop off at the Sao Francisco Church, with its extravagant gold leaf baroque designs, from where you will head towards the Largo do Pelourinho. You will be given free time to enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants where you will be able to taste some of the best Bahian cuisine.

Day 12: Depart Salvador 

Transfer to Salvador Airport for your onward flight.

Amazon & Pantanal

Amazon Ecopark

Day 2: Santiago Sightseeing

This morning’s city tour with a Local Specialist includes a stop at the ornate wrought-iron Central Market where we’ll see the catch of the day and stroll past pop-up restaurants serving local favourites. We journey to wine country, visiting an exclusive winery in Casablanca Valley for a gourmet lunch served alfresco in exquisite surrounds. ‘Dive into Culture’ and meet the winemakers for a personalised winery experience, followed by an opportunity to taste the fruit of his labours. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 3: Santiago – Puerto Montt – Puerto Varas

We fly south to the coastal city of Puerto Montt, then continue to Puerto Varas for a tour of the “City of Roses” against the backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes. Later, we make our way to our hotel on the shores of Lake Llanquihue where we’ll enjoy the rest of the day at leisure and an included dinner.

Day 4: Puerto Varas – Lake Crossing – Bariloche

Look forward to a day of pinch me moments as you cross the Andes via land and water. Our first stop sees us watch the burbling waters of the Petrohue River cascade over black volcanic rock. We’ll cross Todos Los Santos Lake, keeping a keen eye out for giant Andean condors as the mighty Osorno Volcano with its white cap looms in the background. Admire the soul-stirring landscapes en route to Peulla where we’ll enjoy lunch. Then, cross the border into Argentina and cruise the glacial waters of Lake Nahuel Huapi. We’ll arrive in Bariloche this evening.

Day 5: Bariloche Sightseeing

Soak up the sights and sounds of the “Switzerland of South America” this morning, breathing in the fresh alpine air. We’ll meet our Local Specialist and travel along the “Circuito Chico” for spectacular views of forests, mountains and sparkling waters in Nahuel Huapi National Park. Visit the beach playground of Playa Bonita, soak up the scenery from the hilltop of St. Edward’s Chapel on the Llao Llao Peninsula, and ride a chairlift to the top of Cerro Campanario for sweeping views of the high peaks of Catedral and Tronador. ‘Dive into Culture’ and indulge in the rich flavours of chocolate during a visit to Bariloche’s Chocolate Museum, then spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6: Bariloche – Buenos Aires

Leaving spectacular Patagonian landscapes behind, we fly to the passionate Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires. This evening, we’ll ‘Connect with Locals’, joining our Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Be My Guest dinner with a local family in Palermo Soho. Savour traditional flavours and homemade family dishes, then discover the secrets of kneading country bread. Day 7: Buenos Aires Sightseeing

Immerse yourself in the seamless mix of European elegance meets Latin energy. We’ll join a ‘Local Specialist’ to see some of Buenos Aires’ most notable sites, including the Plaza de Mayo and iconic pink Casa Rosada. View the fashionable neighbourhood of La Boca, admire the opulent façade of Teatro Colon and drive along the stately Avenida 9 de Julio to the elegant Recoleta cemetery, where Argentina’s most famous sons and daughters have been laid to rest. We pay homage to the beloved former first lady of Argentina, Eva Peron, before enjoying an afternoon at leisure. This evening, we indulge in the delicious flavours of Argentine beef, the authentic tastes of world-renowned Argentinian beef. ‘Dive into Culture’ later, watching the sensual, stirring moves of a traditional Tango performance.

Day 8: Buenos Aires

Get a taste of life as a porteño this morning, embracing the energy of this passionate South American hub on your terms. Perhaps, admire the works of Degas, El Greco and Van Gogh at the Museum of Bellas Artes or stroll around the colourful stalls that line one of the local markets. Take to the countryside and consider spending the day at a traditional estancia (ranch) for the the Fiesta Gaucha (festival of the cowboy), where you’ll be entertained by a lively equestrian show and enjoy a traditional parrillada (barbecue) lunch.

Day 9: Buenos Aires – Iguassu Falls

Journey to the thundering cascade of Iguassu Falls, where we’ll meet our Local Specialist for a visit to the UNESCO-listed Iguassu National Park. Board an open-air ecological jungle train delving deep into its subtropical rainforest. Walk along the catwalk peering down into the swirling waters of Devil’s Throat Falls. We’ll cross the border into Brazil for an evening at leisure and dinner at our resort.

Day 10: Iguassu Falls Sightseeing

Rediscover the ‘Big Waters’ and return to Iguassu National Park, where you’ll join a Local Specialist who will guide your discovery of the Brazilian side of the falls. Walk through the rainforest at the base of the falls and peer at its majesty through the powerful spray. We enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 11: Iguassu Falls – Rio de Janeiro

We bid farewell to the falls and fly to sultry Rio de Janeiro. You’ll be transferred to your hotel overlooking the colourful Copacabana Beach.

Day 12: Rio de Janeiro Sightseeing

Begin your exploration of the cidade maravilhosa (marvellous city) with your Local Specialist, ascending Sugarloaf Mountain by cable car for astounding bay and city views. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure or consider an optional cruise on Guanabara Bay viewing Rio’s picturesque city skyline and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Day 13: Rio de Janeiro Sightseeing

Board a classic cogwheel train for the journey to the summit of majestic Corcovado, site of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We join our Local Specialist to explore more of the city’s iconic sights. Later this afternoon, we’ll ‘Dive into Culture’ during a visit to a local Samba school where we’ll gain insights into how the school prepares for the pageantry of Carnival week. View the colourful costumes and immerse yourself in the rhythms of Samba as you participate in a dance lesson. This evening, the flavours of churrascaria linger at our Farewell Dinner. As our hosts demonstrate how to mix the perfect caipirinha, we toast to an epic South American journey. Saude!

Day 14: Depart Rio de Janeiro

Enjoy a day at leisure until your transfer to the airport or choose to extend your stay at the Miramar by Windsor.

Day 1: Arrive In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Welcome to South America’s largest and most populous country. This afternoon, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions for a drive along famous Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches to the base of 396 metre (1,300 foot) high Sugar Loaf Mountain. Ascend by cable car to its summit, where you can savour spectacular vistas of the city. Next, toast the start of a memorable holiday with caipirinhas, a favourite Brazilian cocktail, from atop Sugar Loaf Mountain during a Cocktail Party.

Day 2: Rio De Janeiro

The city’s landmark, the statue of Christ the Redeemer, crowns Corcovado Mountain, a rounded peak rising 701 metre (2,300 feet) from the bay below. A scenic ride by cog railway leads to the top, where a breathtaking 360 – degree panorama affords sweeping views. From here, proceed to bustling downtown Rio, where modern office towers stand next to relics of the Portuguese colonial past. View the Sambodromo and visit the Cathedral. The afternoon is at leisure for you to experience this vibrant city on your own. Tonight, it’s a fun outing to a Churrascaria for a feast of barbecued meats marinated and roasted over charcoal in true Brazilian style.

Day 3: Rio De Janeiro

A full day at leisure to savour Rio. Relax on one of the world – famous beaches or take advantage of the world – class shopping or fine dining. Alternatively, you may choose to join an optional trip to historic Petropolis, a mountain resort and the former summer palace of Emperor Dom Pedro II.

Day 4: Rio De Janeiro – Buenos Aires, Argentina

Fly to Buenos Aires, proud capital of the vast country that occupies most of the southern part of the continent. After arriving at your central hotel, an orientation walk acquaints you with the “Paris of South America” and its wide boulevards and outdoor cafes. Spend an evening at leisure.

Day 5: Buenos Aires

Your included sightseeing this morning starts in La Boca, a colourful district and site of the city’s first port. Take a short walking Tour of this unique neighbourhood at the mouth of the river and then on to San Telmo, famous for its late – colonial buildings and as a popular gathering spot for artists. At the Plaza de Mayo, see La Casa Rosada (the President’s Pink House) and the Metropolitan Cathedral, which houses San Martin’s Mausoleum. Drive past the ornate Teatro Colon opera house before reaching Recoleta Cemetery, burial site of Eva Peron. After an afternoon at leisure, top off the evening at a famous Tango Club. Start with a Dance Lesson, followed by dinner of Argentine steaks and other local specialties, and end with a show featuring flawless performances of Latin America’s most sensuous dance – the Tango!

Day 6: Buenos Aires

Enjoy a full day at leisure, with an optional excursion to the pampas (grasslands). Experience the atmosphere of Argentine country life as you visit an estancia (ranch). Get acquainted with the lifestyle of the gauchos and enjoy a barbecue lunch and the warm hospitality of your hosts before returning to the city.

Day 7: Buenos Aires – Iguassu Falls

This morning, fly to Iguassu Falls. The spectacle of this 2 – milewide torrent – with some cataracts as high as 76 metres (250 feet) is nothing short of hypnotic. The clouds of spray, the incessant roar, and the surrounding luxuriant tropical growth make this an unforgettable natural wonder. Upon arrival, journey to the Argentinean side of the falls and take the Ecological Jungle Train for a bird’s – eye view from the catwalks perched over part of the Devil’s Throat, where 14 waterfalls drop more than 92 metres (300 feet) into the Devil’s Gorge below. Continue into Brazil’s side of Iguassu Falls, your home for the night.

Day 8: Iguassu Falls – Lima, Peru

Today is dedicated to exploring the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls from a completely different vantage point than in Argentina. A walk along the pathway at the base of the falls takes you into the Devil’s Throat Canyon, with spectacular panoramic views of many of the 275 cataracts that make up Iguassu Falls. Have a late lunch or early dinner before flying to Lima, Peru.

Day 9: Lima

Your city sightseeing Tour focuses on Lima’s rich colonial history as well as the modern city. See the 18th – century San Francisco Monastery with its unique cloisters, Government Palace, and the cathedral situated around the vast Plaza de Armas. Tonight, visit the Larco Herrera Museum, which houses the largest private collection of Pre – Columbian Peruvian art in the world. Enjoy dinner at the museum’s restaurant.

Day 10: Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley

Fly to Cusco, the impressive Andean city that was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Head into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit the semi – circular Kenko Amphitheatre with its stone altars and labyrinth of passages, and see the ancient site of Puca Pucara. Also, in the Sacred Valley, experience an El Pago a la Tierra, or Mother Earth Ceremony, performed by a local shaman. These ceremonies thanking Mother Earth and asking for good health and safe travels have been practiced in Peru since before the arrival of the Incas. Continue to Pisac, an old mountain village where you will have free time to shop for local wares, such as alpaca sweaters and blankets, jewellery, or handpainted ornamental dishes and vases. Stay in the Sacred Valley tonight, with dinner at the hotel.

Day 11: Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu

This morning, visit the Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo, followed by the opportunity to visit a Local Home, meet some of the locals, and experience their way of life in the Sacred Valley. Then, board the Vistadome Train for a scenic journey through the lush Urubamba Valley. Upon arrival, ascend the mountainside to legendary Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas.” Your Local Guide will introduce this intact fortress with its temple remains, holy houses, and mile – long aqueduct, and will bring you closer to the mysteries still hidden in these amazing structures. Tonight, learn how to make the perfect Pisco Sour at a Peruvian cooking demonstration before your included dinner.

Day 12: Machu Picchu – Cusco

A morning at leisure in Machu Picchu allows you to wake up early to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu with your second included entrance to the ruins. After lunch, return to the Sacred Valley by Train Ride and continue to Cusco.

Day 13: Cusco

On your guided sightseeing tour of Cusco today, learn more about the Inca and Spanish influence. Begin at the heart of Cusco in the Plaza de Armas (main square), with a visit to the imposing Cathedral, where construction began in 1550 and was finally completed 100 years later. Continue to Koricancha and the Santo Domingo Monastery, and see how the two sites have become one. The Temple of the Sun at Koricancha was once the most important Inca site, dedicated to the worship of the Sun. The walls, altars, and decorations were all said to be covered in gold – until the Spaniards looted the temple and then built the contrasting Baroque Santo Domingo Monastery on top of the temple’s foundations. Also, visit the Temple Of Sacsayhuaman, perched on a hillside overlooking Cusco. It remains unfathomable how and when this fortress of gigantic stones – with some blocks weighing more than 350 tons – was built. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore on your own. This evening, your Tour Director hosts a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 14: Cusco – Lima

A short morning flight returns you to Lima. For a special treat, make a stop at a Local Peruvian Food Market to get a real taste of the life of the local people. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore on your own.
