Day 3: Trujillo – Chiclayo

Transfer by coach to Chiclayo. Visit Tucume, an imposing site consisting of 26 mud brick pyramids, and the Tumbas Reales Museum.

Day 4: Depart Chiclayo

Morning visit to the tomb of the Lord of Sipan, which, when discovered in 1987, revealed a wealth of information about the little-known Moche civilisation. Transfer to the airport for your afternoon flight.

Day 1: Arrive Trujillo

Upon arrival into Trujillo airport you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Trujillo

Guided city tour of Trujillo with visits to San Francisco Church and the Cassinelli museum, with an afternoon visit to the ruins of the largest adobe city in the world, Chan Chan. Lunch at local restaurant at Huanchaco beach.

Day 3: Trujillo – Chiclayo

Morning transfer to Chiclayo 130 miles south along the Pan American Highway. On arrival to Chiclayo “The Friendship City” you will be taken on a tour of Tumbas Reales & Tucume an imposing archaeological site composing of 26 mud brick pyramids.

Day 4: Depart Chiclayo

Half day tour of Lord of Sipan + Pampa Grande Tour, where its possible to see the ancient mud brick burial platform where the fabulous tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered in 1987. Then visit the Pampa Grande, also known as Capilla and considered the largest pyramid in South America. Afternoon transfer to airport.

Visit the popular San Pedro Market, a must-see in Cusco; Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral with its carved woodworks, altars and paintings. Drive to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman.

Day 3: Cusco – Yucay

Discover the best of the Sacred Valley of the Incas starting on the Inca’s Balcony, offering impressive views of Chinchero ruins and the city. Spend time with a local community before visiting Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire. Ollantaytambo, with its narrow cobblestone streets, has been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.

Day 4: Yucay – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

Transfer to Ollanta station to board the Vistadome train service to Aguas Calientes. Sit back and enjoy the spectacular views of the Sacred Valley from the panoramic windows. Disembark at Aguas Calientes station and then board a bus for the ride to Machu Picchu and your guided visit.

Day 5: Machu Picchu – Cusco

A morning at leisure to explore the town of Aguas Calientes. or venture, on your own, to the citadel for further explorations. Alternatively hike up the impressive Huyna Picchu mountain for a bird’s-eye view of Machu Picchu. This afternoon board the train for the return journey to Cusco.

Ancient Cultures & Waterfalls

Discover two unique destinations in Peru – Kuelap, the most important archaeological site in northern Peru and the towering Gocta Waterfall, set amid jungle sheltering toucans and monkeys. Day 1: Jaen – Cocachimba

On arrival transfer to your lodge overlooking the striking Gocta Falls.

Day 2: Gocta Waterfall

You will venture on a trek through the Cocachimba route on your way to the Gocta Waterfall. You will go across sugar cane fields until you reach a clouded forest with orchard, mushroom and moss-covered trees. Members of the Communal Association will accompany you along the way and will explain everything there is to know about the ecosystem that surrounds the area, as well as the history of its community and the waterfall, the third tallest in the world.

Day 3: Kuelap Fortress

Discover Kuelap, the most important archeological site in the northern Peruvian Andes. On a guided visit, you will learn everything about this monumental fortress, which is located on top of Cerro Barreta; its platform reaches up to 600 metres in length and, at certain points, its walls reach up to 19 metres high. You will be surprised by its imposing walls and its complex interior architecture, where you’ll find administrative, religious, ceremonial and residential areas, which are proof of the detailed organisation of its ancient inhabitants.

Day 4: Leymebamba Museum & Revash

You will explore the Leymebamba Mummy Museum, a place dedicated to the Chachapoyas culture. In its five rooms you will appreciate the 261 mummies and 200 funeral accessories that the place owns very up-close. Then, you will visit the Revash mausoleums, a holy land that belongs to the same culture; these collective tombs are located in natural caves or in excavations made on rock walls. On Sundays, the visit to Revash will be replaced by a visit to Yerbabuena, a place where the region’s largest market is located, which due to low tourist presence still maintains its traditional essence.

Day 5: Karajia

Today you will visit Karajia, a group of human-shaped sarcophagi that were part of the Chachapoyas culture’s traditions. These coffins, made of dry straw and clay, have an impressive height, reaching up to 2.5 metres, and were used for the burial of important people and families.

Day 6: Chachapoyas – Jaen 

You will be picked up from the hotel in Chachapoyas and transferred to the Jaen Airport to board your flight to your next destination

Day 1: Arrive Lima

Welcome to the Capital of the New World – the launch pad to our effortlessly delivered encounter with the iconic and unexpected highlights of Peru. On arrival in Lima, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the exclusive barrio of San Isidro where you’ll enjoy a Welcome Reception this evening to meet your Travel Director and travel companions.

Day 2: Lima Sightseeing

Connect with the colonial heritage of Francisco Pizzaro’s “City of Kings”, admiring the colonial splendour of Lima’s UNESCO-listed Historic Centre. Stand in the birthplace of this ancient, yet modern city, surrounded by the Baroque façades of Cathedral of Lima and Palace of the Union. See the Church of the San Francisco and discover its hidden catacombs. Celebrate Lima’s status as the culinary capital of South America and ‘Connect with Locals’ when you meet Ignacio Barrios, who has worked alongside many of Peru’s most award-winning chefs. We visit a local market where Ignacio will explain how Peruvian fruits, vegetables, seafood and meats are the basis of Peruvian cooking. Then, continue to Chef Ignacio’s cooking school where we’ll enjoy a demonstration on how to prepare some of Peru’s most popular dishes and have an opportunity to sample some at a ‘Be My Guest’ lunch before spending the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3: Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley

Board a morning flight to Cusco and the Sacred Valley. ‘Visit the Pisac market displaying Quechua arts and crafts, then continue to a former 18th century colonial-style monastery in the Sacred Valley, our hotel for the night. ‘Dive into Culture’ and meet Nilda Callañaupa Alvarez, a master Quechua weaver, and the first person from her village to attend university. She been an ambassador for Andean traditions since she began learning ancient pre-Columbian weaving techniques as a young girl in the 1960s. ‘Make a Difference’ as your visit helps to preserve and promote traditional pre-Columbian weaving techniques in the 21st century.

Day 4: Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu

The mystical empire of the Incas takes centre stage today. We visit the famous Sacred Valley stronghold of Ollantaytambo, before boarding the Vistadome train (light snack included) for our epic journey to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Delve into the mysteries of this once-great civilisation, admiring the 15th century stone ruins of temples, palaces and terraces perched high amidst the clouds. Join your ‘Local Specialist’ for an exploration of the iconic great Temple of the Sun, the House of the Priest, the Sacred Plaza and the Intihuatana, an intricately carved rock most likely used as a sundial centuries ago. We return to our hotel where we dine tonight.

Day 5: Machu Picchu – Cusco

The ancient ruins of Machu Picchu beckon again and we have an opportunity to re-connect with this ancient wonder. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike up to the Gate of the Sun for stunning views over the fortress. We board a train to the Sacred Valley, then head to the colonial city of Cusco, stopping en route at a local chicheria. ‘Dive into Culture’ and enjoy the sweet flavours of chica as you learn how this Peruvian corn beer is brewed by the local women.

Day 6: Cusco Sightseeing

Embark on a sightseeing tour of the sacred city of Cusco this morning, admiring the 16th century Spanish colonial buildings that stand on the foundations of former Inca temples and palaces. See the baroque Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and 17th century Church of Santo Domingo. Visit the ruins of the Sacsayhuaman fortress and see nearby warehouses where the Incas once stored their grain. The afternoon is free to explore on your terms. This evening, gather for a Regional Dinner at a local restaurant, enjoying Cusquenian dishes and ancestral dance performances.

Day 7: Cusco – Lima

A leisurely start to our day sees us return to Lima this afternoon. Meet a Local Specialist and curator at the Larco Museum, which houses the largest private collection of pre-Columbian art in the world. This evening we join our travel companions for a Farewell Dinner in the museum’s garden restaurant.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Hike

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a spectacular trekking experience. The hike trail winds through some of the most sublime countryside in the Peruvian Andes and, as if that were not enough, leads to one of the Wonders of the World, famed Machu Picchu. Day 1: Cusco – Chilca – Wayllabamba

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco very early in the morning to take bus to km 82, the entrance of the trail to begin the trek to Machu Picchu. You will walk for approximately three hours along the Urubamba river until the archaeological site of Llactapata, where you will stop for lunch. Then you will continue walking towards your first camp at Wayllabamba. Dinner and overnight in tents at the campsite.

Walking time: Between 5 – 6 hours
Distance: Approx. 13 kilometres
Highest point: 3,000 metres above sea level

Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo

After breakfast, the toughest part of the trail begin, walking towards the highest point in the Inca Trail where you will have an unbelievable panoramic view of the whole area and will observe different types of microclimates. After 3 hours of walking you will reach the first pass, named Warmiwañiusca or Dead Woman`s Pass, at approximately 4,200 m.a.s.l. Here, you will feel a tremendous sense of achievement as you reach the top and gaze at the landscape below. After lunch you will continue your walking down to Pacaymayo where you will camp and have dinner.

Walking time: 6 -7 hours
Distance: Approx. 11 kilometres
Highest point: 4,200 metres above sea level

Day 3: Pacaymayo – Puya Patamarka – Wiñay Huayna

After breakfast you will start the descent towards the second most important pass of the trail at 3,850 m.a.s.l. Having a guided visit at the archaeological complex of Runkurakay and the Inca citadel of Sayacmarca. Continue your trekking towards Puya Patamarka (Cloud-level town), another important archaeological monument, where lunch will be served. After a short break you will continue walking to Wiñay Huayna (Forever Young) for a guided visit of this impressive archaeological complex with a spectacular setting. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Walking time: Between 7 – 8 hours
Distance: Approx. 10 kilometres
Highest point: 3,900 metres above sea level

Day 4: Wiñay Huayna – Machu Picchu

After breakfast, have a very early start to arrive in time for sunrise at Machu Picchu. After a one hour walk through the forest towards the Inti Punku or the Gate of the Sun, also known as the Entrance Gate to Machu Picchu, you will have the most impressive panoramic view of the citadel. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, your guide will take you on a tour around the citadel visiting the main sites and monuments. After the tour you will have free time to wander, then you will meet with the rest of the group to drive by bus down to Aguas Calientes and then to your hotel for overnight or board the train back to the city of Cusco.
