Day 1: Arrive Addis Ababa

Arrival transfer to your hotel.

Hotel: Sheraton Addis, 2 nights

Day 2: Addis Ababa

Explore the city of Addis Ababa, founded in 1886. Visit the National Museum, home to the fossilised hominid ‘Lucy’; St. George and Holy Trinity Cathedrals and the Mercato, Africa’s largest market.

Day 3: Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar

Fly to Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile and watch local fishermen at work in traditional papyrus reed boats. Hike to the beautiful Tis Isat Falls (Blue Nile Falls).

Day 4: Bahir Dar – Lake Tana – Gondar

A full day of exploration as you cruise Lake Tana visiting a selection of the remote island monasteries.

Hotel: Mayleko Lodge, 3 nights

Day 5: Gondar

Explore Gondar’s many castles and the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie with its iconic ceiling of painted angels.

Day 6: Gondar – Simien Mountains – Gondar

A day travelling to the breathtaking Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park’s jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp precipices are truly dramatic and it is home to some extremely rare animals such as the Gelada baboon, the Simien fox and the Walia ibex, found nowhere else in the world.

Day 7: Gondar – Axum

A flight north to the oldest city in Ethiopia. An afternoon exploring the city and the impressive Stelae Fields.

Hotel: Remhai Hotel or Yeha Hotel

Day 8: Axum – Lalibela

Fly to the World Heritage site of Lalibela. Explore the monolithic red-hued churches carved into the rock. Your guide will lead you through the network of crevices and tunnels linking each of the churches. Still in use today step inside and you may see a robed priest observing the faith in time-honoured fashion.

Hotel: Mountain View Hotel, 2 nights

Day 9: Lalibela

Discover the eastern group of rock churches. Smaller in size, these are no less impressive with intricate carvings and many dark tunnels to explore. Finish the day with an Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

Day 10: Lalibela – Depart Addis Ababa

Your journey ends with a flight back to Addis Ababa.
