Day 1: Arrive Lima
Upon arrival you will met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Lima
Explore the modern and colonial parts of the city of Lima the “City of Kings”, starting in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, past a Huaca or sacred pre-Inca site. Stop at Parque del Amor (Lovers Park) in Miraflores for its magnificent view over the Pacific Ocean. Visit the city’s historic centre, located on the Main Square, which is surround by the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop´s Palace, the Municipality of Lima and the Cathedral. Visit one of the largest colonial-era convents before a Pisco Sour tasting in the bar of the historic Gran Hotel Bolivar.
Day 3: Lima
Embark on an unforgettable culinary adventure, beginning your tour at a typical Peruvian market. There you will find a broad variety of national ingredients, including traditional Peruvian fruit such as cherimoya, lucuma and aguaymanto. Learn to prepare pisco sour and ceviche, two great representatives of the Peruvian flavor, at a local restaurant before enjoying a delicious lunch showcasing Peru’s most important dishes.
Day 4: Lima – Cusco
Following breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight to Cusco, where you’ll be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to acclimatise to the higher altitude. This evening enjoy a delicious dinner at Pachapapa Restaurant.
Day 5: Cusco
Explore the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage city of Cusco, beginning with a visit to San Pedro Market, for a taste of local life in Cusco. The tour continues with a visit to the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main centre for the worship of the Sun God, Inti. A church was built by the Spanish over the temple’s foundations: the Temple of Santo Domingo. See Cusco’s Main Square, followed by a visit to Sacsayhuaman Fortress, built of enormous stone blocks, expertly shaped by the Incas. The tour continues with visits to three archaeological sites: Kenko and Tambomachay, important religious and administrative centers for the Incas.
Day 6: Cusco – Sacred Valley
Visit the enormous circular terraces at Moray, used as a botanical laboratory by the Incas, which have a magnificent view of the Urubamba Valley. Travel onwards to the village of Maras, which produces the finest salt in the world: Sal de Maras. Spend time in the Andean community of Misminay and share their tasks with local inhabitants, who still preserve ancient Inca traditions. Prepare a traditional dish with local ingredients in a mud stove using seasonal ingredients which are harvested according to the agricultural calendar of the community. Use a traditional stone mortar to prepare a traditional Uchucuta sauce and take part in a thanksgiving ceremony to Pachamama or Mother Earth.
Day 7: Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes
Depart the Sacred Valley for the village of Ollantaytambo, with its impressive and eponymous Inca fortress. This historically important fortress was the location where Manco Inca defeated the Spanish in 1538. Climb up steep stone steps to admire the astonishing monoliths that make up the Temple of the Sun. Enjoy a delicious lunch in Casa Hacienda Huayoccari before being transferred to Ollanta train station to board the train towards Aguas Calientes.
Day 8: Machu Picchu – Cusco
Visit to one of the most important tourist destinations in the world – Machu Picchu and experience one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World. Enjoy lunch at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge before returning to Cusco by train.
Day 9: Depart Cusco
Following breakfast transfer to the airport for your onward arrangements.
