This journey combines Japan’s best World Heritage Sites, including ancient pilgrimage routes, mountaintop settlements and beautiful shrines and temples to provide a comprehensive overview of Japan’s long history and beautiful natural countryside.

Day 1: Tokyo

Upon arrival at Narita or Haneda Airport, take a shared shuttle to your accommodation.

Hotel: Shinjuku Washington Annex Hotel or similar, 3 nights

Day 2: Tokyo

After breakfast, explore Tokyo on the Tokyo Morning Tour which drive-by the National Diet Building and Imperial Palace, and visits Tsukiji Outer Market, the world’s largest wholesale fish and seafood market where you can see around 330 fish markets, greengrocers and restaurants. Afterwards, drive by Kabukiza Theatre along the way to Tokyo Skytree Town where you can explore Japan’s tallest structure freely(admission fee to Tokyo Skytree observation decks not included). Lastly head to the old downtown area of Asakusa for Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street.   Take the afternoon off to enjoy what Tokyo has to offer at your leisure.

Day 3: Tokyo – Nikko – Tokyo

Following breakfast, join the Nikko World Heritage 1 Day Tour visiting the most beautiful example of traditional architecture in Japan, Nikko Toshogu Shrine. After a Japanese style lunch at a local restaurant, visit Lake Chuzen-ji and Kegon Falls, one of the three famous waterfalls in Nikko. The tour will finish in the late evening in Shinjuku.
Please make your own way back to your hotel.

Day 4: Tokyo – Mt. Fuji – Hakone

After breakfast, pack a small overnight bag as your main suitcase will be transferred directly from Tokyo to your hotel in Kyoto. Travel by coach up to 2,300 meters on Japan’s highest mountain, Mt. Fuji, to see a spectacular view. After lunch at a local restaurant, proceed for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi. The view of Mt. Fuji in the background from Lake Ashi is iconic in Hakone. Lastly, take a ride on Mt. Komagatake Ropeway to the peak of Mt. Komagatake for a stunning panoramic view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. After the tour, transfer from Hakone-en to your accommodation.

Day 5: Hakone – Hiroshima

Have breakfast at your ryokan and then make your own way from Hakone to Odawara Station to board the bullet train to Hiroshima. Upon arrival at Hiroshima, make your own way to your accommodation. The afternoon is free for you to explore Hiroshima at your leisure.

Day 6: Hiroshima – Kyoto

After breakfast, enjoy a day tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Visit Itsukushima Shrine to see the truly breathtaking site of the bright orange Great Torii gate in the blue sea. After having lunch on your own, head to the Peace Memorial Park and Museum and the international symbol of peace, the Atomic Bomb Dome. When the tour ends, take the bullet train from Hiroshima back to Kyoto.

Day 7: Kyoto – Nara – Kyoto

Have breakfast at your hotel then tour the main sites of Kyoto. Visit Nijo Castle with its impressive massive stone walls and elaborate gates, and Kinkaku-ji Temple, known as the Golden Pavilion. Also stop by Kyoto Imperial Palace which is renowned as a pinnacle for its simplicity of Japanese architecture. After lunch, travel to Nara to visit Todai-ji Temple, which houses the Great Buddha, and Nara Park, where many tame deer roam freely. Also visit colourful Kasuga Taisha Shrine, with 3,000 lanterns.

OPTION 1: Finish Tour in Kyoto

Day 8: Kyoto

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and a full free day at leisure in Kyoto.

Day 9: Depart Kyoto

Following breakfast, spend part of the day exploring Kyoto at your own leisure, until it is time to depart to Kansai Airport via train.

 

OPTION 2: Finish Tour in Tokyo

Day 8: Kyoto – Tokyo

After having breakfast, spend part of the day exploring Kyoto at your own leisure, until it is time to take a bullet train back to Tokyo.

Day 9: Depart Tokyo

Following breakfast, spend part of the day exploring Tokyo at your own leisure, until it is time to depart to Narita or Haneda Airport via train.
