Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Scheduled flight to Amboseli Game Reserve. Lunch and afternoon game drive in camp’s shared vehicle.

Tortilis Camp is widely regarded as the prime location for witnessing the majesty of Africa’s largest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Amboseli is also known for its magnificent elephants – over 1000 elephants in the parks eco-system, featuring some of the largest in Africa. Tortilis Camp is named after the flat-topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and is situated in one of Amboseli’s areas of Acacia Tortilis woodland, with the majestic backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, and the world’s highest free-standing mountain, snow-capped Kilimanjaro. Game drives, walks, sundowners and bush meals take place both inside the park, and within a private 30,000 acre game concession.

The tents are all spacious, with king or twin beds and elegant en suite bathrooms. There is a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs, with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro.

Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve

Fly back to Nairobi and onto Samburu. Lunch and afternoon game drive in camp’s shared vehicle.

Samburu Intrepids is a lush oasis on the banks of the great Uaso Nyiro River in Samburu Game Reserve. The tented luxury camp is a delight to be in – deliciously cooled by the river breeze and the forest. The camp sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where the elephants sometimes make an appearance or the crocodiles come out to lounge by the river’s banks.

Dry, rugged and stunning, Samburu’s landscape is at once stark and sensual, with its iconic loaf shaped Ololokwe Mountain and hills spreading in every horizon. Its life lung is the Uaso Nyiro River coursing through its craggy terrain full of stone, thorn bush and the forked doum palms. In this arid zone where water is scarce and the land baked by the eternal sun, herds of elephants and the big cats roam the plains with the Samburu special – the Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the long necked antelope, the gerenuk easily seen despite its harsh climes.

Scheduled flight to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Lunch and afternoon game drive in camp’s shared vehicle. Dinner and overnight at Mara Intrepids Tented Camp.

Overlooking the Talek River, at the very confluence of the Mara’s four game-viewing areas, Mara Intrepids Camp enjoys one of the most spectacular locations in the world’s best-known wilderness.

Mara Intrepids is a short drive from the Mara River, where more than a million wildebeest and zebra make their perilous migration crossing every July and August. For the remainder of the year, the camp offers some of the world’s finest game viewing, with large local populations of plains game, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and all the Big Cats. In 2004, some 75% of the footage for the BBC’s famous Big Cat Diary was shot in the vicinity of the camp.
