Day 1: Arrive Ljubljana

Tucked between Italy, Austria and Croatia, Slovenia maybe small but delivers big with beautiful alpine villages, cliffside castles, emerald lakes and a stunning coastline. On arrival, check into your wonderful hotel and relax. The EU dubbed Ljubljana the Green Capital of Europe for its pedestrian focused centre. This together with cafés along the banks of the Ljubljana River, beautiful Plečnik designed buildings, museums and street atmosphere makes for a vibrant party feel.

Day 2: Ljubljana

Enjoy a guided walking tour of Ljubljana’s main attractions in the old town including the Kresija Building, Robba Fountain, Ljubljana Cathedral, Ljubljana Castle, Town Square, Cobblers Bridge, Triple Bridge, Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, Prešeren Square and Dragon Bridge. The afternoon is available at leisure. Options include the National Museum of Slovenia or The Museum of Modern Art.

Day: 3 Ljubljana – Žiče – Maribor – Ljubljana

Enjoy a full day excursion into the countryside. Visit Žiče Charterhouse, an ancient 12th century monastery. Explore the ruins and visit the exhibition. Continue into the Štajerska wine region. The area surrounding Maribor is known for its aromatic whites. Enjoy a delicious lunch and tasting at a winery before continuing to Maribor, a medieval pedestrian village. Visit the Main Square, Cathedral and ‘Stara Trta’, the world’s oldest vine at 400 years, before returning to Ljubljana.

Day 4: Ljubljana – Škofja Loka – Lake Bled

Visit the town of Škofja Loka to explore Loka Castle, Loka Museum and the town square’s famous pastel-hued 16th century houses. Continue to Lake Bled, set in a picturesque location surrounded by mountains and forests. On arrival, visit Bled Castle, the oldest in Slovenia dating to 1011AD. The rest of the day is available at leisure to absorb the breathtaking scenery.

Day 5: Lake Bled – Vintgar Gorge – Kranjska Gora – Lake Bled

Today, discover more of Slovenia’s stunning natural beauty. Visit the Triglav National Park and the 1600 metre Vintgar Gorge which features sheer canyon walls between 50 and 100 metres in height. Also visit the picturesque Šum Waterfall, the largest river waterfall in Slovenia. Continue to the alpine resort of Kranjska Gora for an independent lunch before crossing the panoramic Vršič Pass to visit the gorgeous emerald green Lake Jasna surrounded by stunning alps.
Day 6: Lake Bled – Predjama Castle – Škocjan Caves – Piran

Depart Lake Bled for a tour of Predjama Castle, built within a cave mouth to make access difficult. The structure dates to the 13th century and features a hidden passageway. Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Škocjan Caves. International scientists recognise the exceptional significance of the caves and have declared them one of the natural treasures of the world. The caves were inhabited in prehistoric times; are one of the largest known underground canyons in the world; it contains a microclimate hosting a special ecosystem; and aesthetically is naturally beautiful. After your guided tour, continue to the charming seaside town of Piran.

Day 7: Piran

Enjoy the day at leisure in Piran, known for its long pier and Venetian architecture. The old town is one of the best preserved historical towns on the Adriatic. Stroll the narrow streets within the old town wall, through the main square, along the pier and through the markets.

Day 8: Piran – Lipica – Ljubljana

Visit the charming village of Lipica and enjoy a guided tour of the renowned Lipica Stud Farm, an establishment that first bred Lipizzaner horses back in the 16th century. The farm visit includes trail riding, carriage rides, museum tours and stud performances. Afterward, return to Ljubljana or Piran for your onward journey. Options include a departing catamaran from Piran to Venice.
