Day 1: Arrive Delhi
On arrival in Delhi, you’ll be met by your Great Rail Journeys Tour Escort and be transferred to your home for the night, the Taj Diplomatic Enclave. This evening, get to know your Tour Escort and fellow travellers during a Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: Delhi – Shimla
Rise early and depart Delhi on the Shatabdi Express to Kalka. From here, you’ll board the Toy Train. The World Heritage-Listed Toy Train provides one of the most picturesque train journeys in the country. Wind through leafy landscapes, arriving in Shimla by early evening.

Day 3: Shimla
After breakfast this morning, enjoy an interesting talk from author, historian and journalist, Raaja Bhasin and learn about the city’s fascinating history. Afterwards, embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Shimla and see a number of sights including the Viceregal Lodge, once the summer residence of the Indian viceroys. Continue on to the Sankat Mochan Samiti Temple, where you’ll have the chance to gain some cultural insight. This afternoon you’ll walk to the mysterious Scandal Point, a popular social meeting place where people would gather and share gossip.
Day 4: Shimla
Nestled at the foothills of the Himalayas and surrounded by picturesque natural scenery, Shimla is a delight to visit and was a favourite with the Sahebs from the timr of the Raj. Be sure to make the most of your free day in this charming town as you explore it on your own. Perhaps explore the Himalayas outside Shimla or visit Wildflower Hall.
Day 5: Shimla – Delhi
After breakfast this morning you’ll board the express train back to Delhi. Upon arrival, transfer back to your hotel. Enjoy a further two evenings at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave, an oasis of calm in the heart of India’s bustling capital.

Day 6: Delhi
Today you will further explore Delhi, India’s vibrant, hectic, awe-inspiring capital city. Visit Jama Masjid, a 17th centru mosque before taking a rickshaw ride through the narrow streets of Delhi’s lively bazaar, winding through a sea of pedestrians going about their everyday lives. Leave the enticing aromas of street food behind and move on to New Delhi, to visit Humayun’s Tomb. Thought to have inspired the Taj Mahal, the tomb perfectly combines elements of Persian and Mughal architecture in its design. Other highlights you’ll visit include India Gate, the Parliament Building and Qutab Minar – India’s tallest stone tower.
Day 7: Delhi – Agra
Transfer to the station where you’ll board the Gatimaan Express to Agra. Once in Agra, embark on a sightseeing tour of the World Heritage-listed Red Fort. One of the city’s most historic sites, the fort has served as both a military point and a royal residence in the past. Continue to the iconic Taj Mahal for a magical afternoon. The impressive structure took over 22 years to build and is a wonder to behold. Spend the afternoon on a guided tour of the grounds and learn about the love story behind the marble mausoleum.

Day 8: Agra – Fatephur Sikri – Jaipur
Enroute to Jaipur, you’ll stop briefly at the abandoned ancient city of Fatehpur Sikri for a guided tour. This town to the west of Agra was once known as the City of Victory. Built under Emperor Akbar, the city was abandoned due to water shortages. Fatehpur is home to a number of monuments and temples, making it just as impressive as when it was built in the 16th century. Enjoy lunch at Laxmi Vilas Palace Bharatpur before continuing to the intriguing Pink City of Jaipur.

Day 9: Jaipur
This morning is dedicated to an in-depth tour of Jaipur. With an abundance of beautiful palaces, forts, lakes and architecture, Jaipur is no doubt one of India’s most royal and majestic cities. You’ll see sites including the City Palace, an iconic pink complex of gardens and buildings in the centre of Jaipur’s Old City. Completed in 1728, it showcases a remarkable blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Later, continue to the 18th-century Jantar Mantar Astronomical Observatory. Explore the complex and see a number of fascinating early geometric devices used for tracking planet locations. Spend the afternoon at leisure before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Day 10: Jaipur
For you final day in Jaipur, travel to the city’s outskirts of Jaipur and enjoy a guided tour of Amber Fort. Travel by Jeep to the main entry and spend the morning touring through the fort, learning about its fascinating history. The striking architecture is a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic styles and the fort is divided up into four main parts, each with its own courtyard. Its imposing exterior contrasts with the intricate and detailed interior and many of the rooms have elaborately painted walls inlaid with decadent mirrors and precious stones. On the way back to your hotel drive past Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, The Palace of the Winds. Designed to look like the crown of Krishna, the honeycombed Palace is built from eye-catching red and pink sandstone. Its five-storey facade features an elaborate array of hundreds of finely screened windows and balconies.
Day 11: Jaipur – Delhi
This morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before saying goodbye to the Pink City. Travel back to Delhi, arriving after lunch. This evening say goodbye to your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner.

Day 12: Depart Delhi
Your tour of India’s Golden Triangle comes to an end today. After breakfast you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
